I don't want to sound racist, but why does Minaya have to replace another good white player with a mediocre latin player? I think this is another horrible move and don't think Torreabla will bring anything to the Mets. Maybe I should follow the Yankees now.

Third place for Los Metsos. The idiot Minaya isn't going to stop until all position are played by latinos. I say that Wright will be gone in a year.

What a joke of a signing. LoDuca is 20 times better than this guy and it seems more and more that white ball players are not welcome anymore to play with the Mets. I guess we need a spanish contingency simply because Minaya is a white racist and prefers spanish ballplayers instead of white ones. Tell Minaya that his attendence record will soon go out the window simply because the Mets are supporting more ballplayers who have Visas than any other baseball team in MLB. Baseball has become a joke and it starts with the MLB executives who are more interested in recruiting players outside of the US instead of in the US. What a joke of a franchise when the GM is only interested in signing spanish ballplayers simply because he himself is spanish and uses his heritage to draw spanish players before whites. Why isn't this called reverse discrimination? I use to be a big Met fan when they had excellent balance of all nationalities but am now turned off simply because 3/4 of the team can't even speak English. It is a sad commentary to other ballplayers who are either black or white that they have now become the minority in MLB and it is especially true of the NY Mets organization.

Maybe you should follow the yankees Mariano, Jorge, Melky, Abreu, Arod, Cano, Rafael Soriano, Jose Molina, Tony Pena etc. are looking forward to your presence. You know they are all good white players aren't they.

Loduca is a warrior. He leaves his heart on the field every day. At least if Torrealba threw runners out I could understand, but in my eyes it's a 2nd rate signing by what the Mets have become, a second rate organization. I also predict that Willie doesn't last the season.

Let's see if i get this. Our new catcher, or part of the catching tandem as they're calling it, was only a starter for a 1/2 season and threw out 2 of the final 32 base stealers last season. He has a shoulder problem in 2006 and last season his throwing accuracy was off because of it. Willie says he like the way this guy receives the ball. Doesn that mean he got a good way of catching paitces? Anyone getting a warm fuzzy about this?

As for the Latin thing. Yes, I will admit it seems like it's Omar's agenda. But, aren't some of the best players in the game today Latino, at all positions?
Rudy above says he was a big fan when there was more racial/ethnic balance on the team. Maybe it's me, but isn't the point a fan routing for your tema to win? Who cares about where the players were born?

I guess if we had a woman or African American president people would leave the country?

He we go again, he sign's a Latin American player and not the best available baseball player out there. I read a rumor that Dan Haren would be available for Milledge and Heilman. How that's a trade that makes sense and gives the Mets a real #1 starting pitcher, but knowing Minaya, he'll sign L. Hernandez and Carlos Silva. The Mets organization is in trouble!

Let's see...we let go a career .288 hitter who actually breathes a little life into a moribund cluhouse, and replace him with a .240 hitter, who throws out less base stealers than the man he's replacing. Curious! I don't care if Torrealba is Latino or Martian! Catcher has now been officially worsened on the Mets. We have a 42 year old left fielder who, granted, when healthy is awesome. But we'll get 100 games out of Moises if we're lucky. Was last year an off year for Delgado, or is he done? Who is going to play right field? Milledge? Gomez? I'm so tired of hearing about these "5-tool" prospects. We all remember Alex Ochoa and Alex Escobar, right? Is Reyes going to grow up and grow better, or has he peaked? Pedro, Maine, Oliver Perez. Good 2-3-4 starters. Who's going to be #1?

Omar better do some serious work at the December winter meetings, because we don't even look as good now as we did last year. And we all know how that ended!

Too bad - I liked LoDuca because he had a pulse and actually looked like he cared - he also was very candid...
the only "upgrade" I see here is this guy is younger...
I will also miss the "Paul LoDuca" chants...

This is no longer about "getting the best players" as you people who spin everything completely around and label those who say Omar is Racist as racists themselves. OMAR MINAYA IS RACIST. If you can not see that with this deal then you I feel bad for you. Torrealba is not better than Lo duca, barely hit above .200 on the road, threw out less baserunners, this move makes no sense other than the fact that it is another Spanish player on the team, Omar is almpst fielding an all Spanish team that is inferior, he has time and again chosen soemone based on their race over their talent and quite frankly I am sick of it. I dont care what a players race is but when you clearly go out into the market and move all your non spanish players for all spanish players how can you all not see a problem with that? Year one he brings in a few guys and we are one out from the world series. Year 2 he tweaks the team by importing NOTHING but spanish players and finishes worse in the standings, now if we do worse this year with an inferior catcher, what are you all going to say? Enough is enough fire this racist pig and lets get some balance back to this team, and have a gm who places talent above race. DO you realize David Wright is now the ONLY non spanish position player? And I would venture to guess, based on Omars track record with Montreal, and now the Mets, that if Wright wasn't such an impact player and our unofficial captain, he would be gone for another spanish player also.

If Minaya traded away superior "white" players for inferior Latino players then the Wilpons ought to fire him for incompetency. But even more damning is Minaya's signing of aged, talent diminished, injury prone players of any race. And the weakness of the organization he has built to evaluate talent. Where in the entire farm system are players that other teams are just drooling to acquire? Add to all this is the hypocritical baloney, i.e. Castillo can "make the pivot at second base" and Torrealba can"catch pitches."Just another set of excuses. If the Wilpons are really baseball people they ought to do to the team what they're doing to Citifield. Build it from scratch. Dump every player who is 35 plus and play the kids. At least it would be more exciting than watching Beltran brooding or Wagner doing his John Franco imitation on the mound.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Virgo

Mercury is turning retrograde at just the right time, because it's telling you to consider the validity of your long-term aims and aspirations. If they stand about as much chance of seeing the light of day as you do of winning the Lottery, then you need to streamline them or even abandon them and start again. So think about what you want from life and how you're going to get it. Children and romance may be quite erratic during this phase.
