There would be A LOT more players if they were not to waste their youth drinking and doing drugs! Beleive me, I am 30 and witness the rise and fall of many...

Glad to hear this "New Generation" is doing great in MLB!!

Sports has always been great in the SC schools. So different from the far left, dingy, out of style, hippie image that most people have of us. It's like parallel universes.

Same universe - just without the tired old prejudices you seem to be fond of.

I agree with Susan, the old Santa Cruz hippie thing is what's tired... real tired.

Then move to Orange County or stay in Scotts Valley where you feel safe. That's the beautiful thing we have in Santa Cruz is that it's not as homogeneous as some of you would have it.

Why can't we have excellent athletes and aging old hippies living side by side? I'm sure plenty of these kids are the products of old hippies. Why do you care so much? Do you feel threatened?

Let's not forget a couple Super Bowl winners among us as well: Femi Ayanbedejo who I went to school with at SCHS and Aptos' own Trent Dilfer!

Femi's Pro Bowl selected brother Brendon Ayanbedejo and Johnny Johnson also deserve accolades.

Other honorable mentions for baseball could be Daryl Ratliff, and GlenAllen Hill.

Yes, definitely, I feel threatened by the stinky hippies, the homeless, the insane, the weed and drug friendly hordes. In any case, you and I can certainly agree that I (and many others) will avoid downtown Santa Cruz for another few decades ...
