Blake traded to Dodgers

17 errors for a catcher?? Yeah - I'd agree that is a "
little rough" |

The Indians are starting all over again..........

Casey was a favorite of mine because he is a "ballplayer"; he knew how to win. I believe he is 37,so this trade might eventually help the tribe. No the tribe is not starting all over again. They are doing what they have to do in a small market. Hopefully some of the salary dump with Casey and CC will be spent wisely in the off season. Chicago and Detroit fell after their world series appearances and have rebounded. The tribe can do the same.

Oh, by the way, dumb Delucci. I hope the tribe is not auditioning him for a trade. They are wasting their time. They would be better offf to let Cho and Guiterrez play full time.

I've never been a big Blake fan, but I take my hat off to him for being a stand up guy and having a respectable year. He played everywhere he was asked and performed respectably. Good luck Casey. It was however, a move that had to be made. i hope our talent scouts are getting something in return.

What in the world are they thinking? Blake has been one of our most consistent and talented players this year? Why in the world would you trade this guy? At some point you have to stop hoping that players will "work out their problems" and invest in your existing talent. Casey was great on and off the field and he'll be missed.

Casey Blake was often ripped on ABJ boards. I don't think he ever got the appreciation he deserves. He isn't a superstar, not a .300 hitter that some Cleveland "fans" think every player must be. He is a hard-working player who does anything the team asks of him to the best of his ability. By all accounts he's a solid team guy, something most fans don't appreciate since that doesn't show up on the strat-o-matic.
Casey occupies a rare place where he's not quite a great starter but is a bit better than a mere utility man. As he ages the latter role will become more natural and acceptable. I hope he returns to the Tribe in that capacity. |

Much as I liked the often maligned Casey Blake, this looks to be a very good deal for the Tribe. Blake is 35 and does not fit in the future. He is a free agent at year end and the best the Indians could get was a 2nd round draft pick. I had no idea he would be worth two real good prospects. Shapiro made a good deal.

|
Yeah, but he threw out close to half of the guys trying to steal bases. That will get it done in any league for a guy who has only caught for two years. |

^^
What does it matter if they are young or old? The tribe can't hold on to them if they are good. |

1 In other words, "We really blew it when we did nothing and sat on our hands in the off-season and were blind to how last year's performance was an aberration for at least three of our young hitters. Now we're seeing how very mediocre they are and are panicking to re-load the farm system - hoping for the miracle that these new guys can come around before my next contract renewal." |

Does anyone who is against trading Blake have a reason? You won't get to see him the next two months?

Cleveland rapidly looking more like an expansion team. I thought the future was now? Looks like Dolan is cutting payroll under the pretense of "rebuilding" (right after having "rebuilt"). Looks like the Indians of the 1970s all over again -- we trade for young talent, develop players, and then trade them to competing teams for more players to develop and subsequently trade.

First Sabathia and now Blake. Is Hafner of Sizemore next?

Boo! The Tribe continues to bury themselves. I imagine their next move (after emptying the cupboard) will be to raise prices. Their next media release will then be a complaint because fans are disappearing.

1 CC is going to be paid $20+ Million Blake is asking for 7+ Million Neither were coming back and even if Blake was, he'll be 36 and is 'average.' This move and the CC move were no brainers and very wise moves by Shapiro. While CC will be missed, I think it is important to realize two things: 1. he wasn't coming back and we are done this year. 2. the national perception of Blake...sure, he's a great guy, awesome clubhouse presence and very versatile...BUT he was an average player. For the numbers he puts up, he can't be playing 1st, 3rd or the outfield...maybe 2nd. Everyone needs to quitcherbitchin because sometimes you need to know when to say when. |
|
We'll be lucky if Dellucci and Byrd can get dealt in post-wire deals. It is apparent that there is little interest in either - both are making a decent bit of change (4 and 7 million, with DD signed through next year). I'd give both away just to open up some PT for the younger guys. |

Blake could play almost anywhere, but not very well. His popularity was as baffling to me as Coco Crisp's during his tenure.
The Tribe isn't dumping: we weren't going to keep Sabathia and getting real prospects for Blake is a testament to the good year he was able to put together, although I never thought he had it in him. His presence only retarded any development by Marte and Garko. Now if we could only get a ham sandwich and a beer for Delucci and Byrd... |
|
we could only be so lucky if some team is stupid enough to take on Hafner. we were all happy to keep PRONK in CLE for 12 Million/yr for the next 4 years, but that contract looks pretty bad now... hope he can come back strong.... SIZEMORE ain't going nowhere... |
