Lee pitches like All-Star, beats Mariners

SEATTLE: Pitching in the All-Star Game obviously didn't go to Cliff Lee's head. The current ace of the Indians' staff performed at his usual high level Sunday, as the Tribe defeated the Seattle Mariners 6-2 to ...

Too bad the only good thing about this Indians season is Cliff Lee and his CY award season. Good for Cliff. I hope he gets a big raise & contract extension from the Dolans when the season is done. With CC gone, he's the ace of the staff now for years to come. We Indians fans have to have something to hope on.

Agree completely, but can already hear the announcers saying, "once a Cleveland Indian, Cliff Lee won the Cy Young award in 2008 (and 2009?) before signing with the[fill in the blank]"

Siiiggghhh....

Don't worry everybody. In a mere 3 years, we'll lose BOTH Lee and Sizemore. Who knows who they will be playing for, but, as usual, the Indians wont pay them what they are worth. Unfortunately, until the salary structure changes in baseball, that's the way it will be!

Our only hope to keep players like Lee and Sizemore is that the Cheap@$$ Dolans sell the team soon. How can one get excited about the Indians when you know the inevitable trade for prospects is coming? You can not do it. We will never see a world series championship in my lifetime if the current trend for the Indians and it's star players continues. CC, Jim, Manny, and Joey all left for FA because the Indians refused to sign them to market level contracts. What a shame.

100 losses is in our 2008 future. YUK !!!!

I say it was a wise move getting rid of the extra poundage (CC) so the Tribe can rebuild the pitching Staff with Lee as the cornerstone.

If anyone remebers it was Lee that Plusquellic hit the homerun off of in batting practice at the
Jake a few years back!

Sad. That is the fact that the Indians are showing life and the potential we all thought they had at the beginning of the year, its not the end of July, and all you e of you can do is whine that the Indians will not do the right thing and will just lose.

I'm not saying they will win the division but they are showing they are not just folding up the tepee's and giving up. Shame you so called fans are.

Nobody on that team is giving up, but when you have 3 major contributors out with injuries...maybe a fourth...you're season is in the tank.

Could the Indians have back to back CY winners?

Lee and Carmona would make a nice 1-2 combination.

Looking at the overall competition in the AL in Pitching....I'd say Cliff Lee is a safe bet for the Cy Young, but just my views.....

I agree. As much as others want to blame X player, and send him down, or fire Wedge, or Shapiro, the ultimate problem is the owner himself. Professional sports teams are nothing more than merely toys or promotional items for the super rich. It is NOT supposed to be a profitable endeavor. Ask George Steinbrenner, who has blown I'd say close to $2 BILLION in the last 20 years, just to get titles.

From my perspective, "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.."....

Steinbrenner has made more money in the last 20 years than any owner out there. He's spent a lot, but he's made a lot more than that.

Lee is the leader right now for the Cy Young, but it's far from over. The only other guys I see giving him competition are Halladay, Santana, Saunders, Dice-K, and Duscherer, who somehow still has an ERA below 2.

Yes Steinbrenner has spent a couple billion in the past 20 years. His local television and radio rights made him more than that. You need to look at revenue streams before you make such statements.

Play Marte everyday until Barfield is ready to return or longer! Management still does not know if the kid can play. If I see Delucci in there again , Im gonna scream bloody murder. It's time to see which kids can play this game! Play Garko at first every friggin day!

If Marte proves he cannot play, then make the move to play Barfield at second, Asdrubal at short, and Peralta at third!

Remember the off season when everyone figured Lee was trade bait? That maybe the Indians could slough him off on some unsuspecting team that wouldn't realize they were getting a leftie who had lost it?
Who figured the team would be rebuilding its rotation on Lee who is as close to an automatic win as anyone in the majors? That's a lesson for all of us who think we've got answers, when baseball just keeps throwing new questions... like:
Is Hafner going to come back healthy and great or healthy and still declining?
Is Wedge a second-rate manager or very good if he's got the tools?
Will Marte take an opportunity to establish himself--if it's given?
Can young Garko make himself the regular 1B?
For those of us who aren't all that fascinated with accountancy and constantly second-guessing the owner's profit-loss calculations, there are a few things to keep up interested.

Cliff Lee has been one good reason to continue watching the Tribe this year. He has been incredible and it would be great to see the Cy Young award two years in a row. Keep it up Cliff!

OMG's new catchphrase of the ignoRANT.
Alright, we get it, the 08 team is bad. But 100 losses? Really? REALLY? Cleveland is 43 and 54, to get to 100 losses requires them to go 19 and 46, or .292. The current worst records in MLB are San Diego at .374 and San Fran at .408. So in your wisdom, Cleveland will now commence to go 100 pct. points under those teams? Why do I bother!? Learn math, then learn baseball or shut it.
