You would expect the Sox to be able to sweep the hapless Dodgers, but 2 out of three was enough to keep them from falling out of 1st. Still scoring just 2 runs in the final 2 games combined against a team that is missing $70,000,000.00 worth of it's lineup to the injured list has to make even the most optimistic Sox fan very wince.
Maybe it's enough to just hope the rest of the division keeps handing it to them, but at some point, if they want to hang on, they will need some talent. |

an alright game by the sox. STILL hate how bad this team does in crucial situations, for as much hype crede gets for being a clutch player, he fails a heck of a lot more than you would expect in tough situations. For every game-winner, he pops up weakly or strikes out swinging on a curveball out of the zone. I am a huge crede fan, always have been, but I would not be terribly upset if they would trade him (while he has value and before they lose him for nothing) for some prospects or a bonified leadoff guy ( Roberts???? I know it's not likely and it doesn't really fit into our team as far as positional needs). Anybody else have any thoughts on that or moving somebody else for something different.

With Crede's back acting up again,I think most GM's will not be willing to trade before he goes free agent.I'm afraid his back problems will become chronic and that will lessen his value. If the Sox are thinking of keeping him, perhaps trying Crede at another position will save his back.He wound't be diving for balls like he does at third, which must put a strain on his back from the impact with the ground.

Every time a Cub fan posts on the Sox board, it just proves what all baseball people already know --- Cub fans don't know a thing about baseball. |

sadly enough the Twinkies are about to take over first place, I went to game at Dodger stadium and what I saw was a very erratic and inconsistent Chisox team, with one or two exceptions( Ramirez and Quentin. I love the Sox but am about to give up on them for good, they will break your heart over an over again.

I don't fully understand your post. First of all you don't love the Sox or you would not have made a post like that. Second, they beat the Dodgers 2 out of three, shutting them out today. Is the fact that they can't win them all what makes them inconsistent in your eyes? Third, they sure didn't break my heart in 2005, just three years ago. But the "Twinkies", as you put it, have not taken over first place. Start following the Cubs, your lack of baseball knowledge will make you welcome with them.--- While the rest of us -- Stick with the Sox. |

Just wait till it gets warm. It was a cold 87 in LA. haha |

21-11 against AL Central teams including 3 sweeps. That has a little more to do with them playing well than the other teams just HANDING them the division. There success in their own division is the reason why they are in first place, not b/c they are getting things handed to them like a teenage girl with a rich daddy |

Danks is turning into a good one. Great trade Kenny! Let's see if the Sox can get two from the best team in baseball this weekend. I don't see Depster lasting more than 7 innings this time.

A win is a win! 2 of 3 on the road on THE WEST COAST(I don't care if it is the National league) is just fine. A long season still ahead. Interleague play continues at home. I like our chances in 2 of 3 this weekend. Minnesota won't last. If the Sox don't win the division it sure won't be the Twinkies. Count on that. Go Sox!

Great job by Danks. What a trade! Danks and Masset for a broken down skinny right hander. The Rangers were fleeced!
Their success also has alot to do with the division playing so poorly, or do you think they are playing good? You may be the person out there who thinks the division is good, just asking. |
yeah right, that was a poor move that cost us a guaranteed 25 games last year. mcarthy was our future and could've done better in an odd year 07 than Danks because everyone knows that pitchers with less than 6 letters in their last name only picth well in even years (cited Baseball Prospectus january 2007) and plus the weather will be warmer here in chicago than LA. You just wait, Danks and Floyd will have an ERA as high as 3.90 by the end of the year. You just wait and see. |
Oh i agree that the division is not as good as it should've been. I'll agree on that 100%. I never thought that the Tigers or Indians would be as good as everyone predicted. I'm just saying that the Sox are doing what they are supposed to do and beating the teams in their own division. That is how you win your division with the lopsided amount of games vs your division compared to outside the division. Some years divisions are strong and others they are down. That's baseball, you should know that, watching the game all these years. So yes, I am saying that the Sox are in first right now because of what they have done (21-11 against their division) vs. what the other teams haven't done, b/c what the other teams haven't done is beat the Sox more than they have beat them. |
Why not just have them get AROD first so they could throw him in too. I hope you're kidding about even thinking the Sox could get Roberts for Crede, because that is laughable. They might get a mid level prospect or two but nothing more for Crede. |
I take it you haven't noticed that Floyd Contresas and Vazquez have been giving up a lot more runs since it warmed up. Look at the team record in the easiest part of the schedule since the warm up, and it will get worse. Even Cooper says these guys don't have the same stuff now, but maybe you are right and all the numbers and coaches are wrong. |
Did Roberts, at some point, become Roberto Alomar? The only thing laughable about the trade is that the Orioles aren't in the market for any established players. As always, you undervalue Sox players for the purpose of your angst filled, self loathing posts. |

An update on McCarthy from Dallas: Q: Wondering if you have any info on Brandon McCarthy's health and when he might return. GRANT: McCarthy threw off a mound in Arizona on Monday for the first time since early April. So let's assume the forearm inflammation is behind him once and for all. Let's assume that the first mound session is essentially his first day of spring training. Spring training is six weeks long. If there are no setbacks, I think the start of August might be the time you will see McCarthy pitch in games. Now whether he's pitching in the majors or minors, that's still to be determined either by trades, injury or lack of effectiveness. I feel bad for the guy, he was a joy to watch for the short time he was here. I'm sure KW had no prior knowledge of this injury potential, so this trade is looking unbelievably good in KW's favor. Danks is so young and ahead of schedule in his development that it is shocking. As much as I don't like Ozzie personally; he has been very careful not to over-use Danks and keep his counts relatively low. He deserves credit for managing him well. |
Undervalue? A career .260 hitter who is a free agent at the end of the year, whose agent is tough to deal with, who just got off of back surgery, who leads the majors in errors. What could I possibly do to undervalue him more than that? Why would the O's want a player like Crede for even a minor leaguer right now? |
I don't think Lake Bluff is speaking about Crede's value as much as the fact that he is a free agent at the end of the year and represented by Boras. Plus Crede's back situation (even though he seems healthy) could always crop up again. Roberts is signed through the end of 2009. Roberts just has a lot more value because of his speed, consistent hitting and contract. Trading Crede makes little sense right now. You might as well make a run at the playoffs with him and let him go after the season. |
