Full story: TwinCities.com

It's unclear whether the New York Yankees' Babe Ruth actually called the historic home run he hit off the Chicago Cubs' Charlie Root in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series at Wrigley Field.

I think everybody knew Kirby owned Charlie Liebrandt EXCEPT the Braves and Bobby Cox. I can remember thinking when they left Liebrandt in to face Kirby, "what are they thinking?"

that's not calling his shot. if he didnt hit the homerun, no one would have ever known about the conversation. calling your shot is standing up at home plate and pointing over the fence. then can be no hiding the fact if you fail. plus the opposing pitcher gets to know too.

you can "call your shot" like that at every at bat, and only talk about the ones that came through. if you pointed over the fence at home plate at every at bat, you would look like a darn fool. but you never have to disclose the times you didnt deliver if you just tell a buddy in the dugout.

I wonder if Charlie claimed he was about to write a great column before producing this little gem.

He told Chili Davis, in the on-deck circle, that he was going to bunt. Then Chili said wait for a change up and end the game.

"The Catch" On further review of the tapes from the Cowboys/49rs playoff game in 1982, you can see Joe tell everyone in the huddle....watch this play - I'm going to almost get sacked and pretend to throw the ball away and then Dwight will make the catch and we will win the game.

When I was a bench warmer playing American Legion ball, one of my teammates before an at bat said,'watch this, I'm gonna hit it out against this guy.' And he did.

Now, he was no Kirby Puckett, and we didn't win the World Series, but it was pretty exciting for a bunch of 16 year old kids.

Single biggest Moment in Minnesota sports History! He called his shot, that is great. Because he didn't get up to the plate with the "ut" most arrogance and point to the seats, doesn't mean he didn't call his shot. 87 and 91 world series are a couple of the best world series of our generation. Great games with great teams and both came down to the 7th game. Kirby took the Twins on his shoulders in game 6 of the 91 series and showed us just how special he was as a player. The best part about it he was always a "Team Guy". As far as a Sports Icon, he is one of the greates to ever roam an athletic complex.

Puckett is the man. My son's middle name is Kirby after Puck. I have watched Game 6 and 7 a dozen times each. I get chills each time. My only regret was that I was in college and too poor to get tickets to the games.

Baseball needs another Kirby Pucket. His wonderful personality and smiling face brought so much joy to the game. Now days the only personality in the sport is Manny, and he's a disgrace. I understand MLB players are professionals, but come on sit on a woopie cushion or something.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Cancer

Mercury turning retro is offering you the chance to make sweeping and long-lasting changes to your life, and to clear the ground for some fertile growth in 2010. Lawyers and legal matters, debates, contract negotiations, partnership or other alliances, and joint ventures of any kind need attention. As a Cancerian you don't like endings, but you must now bring an end to any situation or relationship that is holding you back or has passed its sell-by date. Look forward, not back, if you want a glittering future.
