Car Insurance: New car insurance requirements raising insurance...

My understanding of the changes is that the minimum requirements in medical expense as of 11/1 will change from $1,000 to $10,000 and the UM and UIM limits will change to 100/300. The liability coverage are still 25/50/10 until Jan 1, 2010 when the SR22 limits change to 50/100. The change to 50/100 for the general public will come June 1, 2010. At that time auto insurance will become manditory as well.

now regular minimum wage workers like me really will have to struggle to feed their kids. thanks for that . like the insurance companies arent rich enough. what a load of BS. the wisconsin government probally got a huge kickback from some big insurance companies for passing that law! contact 6 might want to look into that.

That is all a load of crap even though I have ins. full coverage as a matter of fact on both my vehicles when i could just carry liability cause of the age of them i think that this is all CRAP Yes i think that you should have to have some sort of ins. to cover your own and everyone else now your telling us how much we have total crap the ins. companies are rich enough w/o this bs increase man that sucks for everyone why dont every person just sign flipping piece of paper saying i'll bend over US Gov. and you stick it to me and run my life and everyone elses and you bet your sweet A$$ the gov. got a fatty check for his BS commission. How about the people on fixed incomes that already use what little money they have. I still say it's time we stop paying the pro ball players and all the other pro whatevers soooo damn much money and start putting that money to some GOOD use!

The insurance companies all opposed this legislation - the Wisconsin trial lawyers were the ones who got Gov Dolye to get this into the last budget.

Oh my god how much more do we have to get stuffed down our throats! I have had auto insurance all my driving life I have paid thousands into it and have never had a claim. Now you want to mandate the amount I have to carry, I have had it I understand the people who do not have it should have it thats very true but don't take it out on the drivers that have carried it for years its not fair!

I am one of "those guys" who don't have car insurance. When I first bought my car I could afford car insurance, after my rates literally doubled I couldn't afford it. I had to cancel my insurance policy.

This whole zip codes racket the insurance companies are running needs to be focus of Wisconsin lawmakers. Fix the problem, not make it worse. Before any of you waste your time typing in the "risk" argument, this argument has been completely debunked by the great Mark Belling.

Not only are they going by zip codes. They also use your credit rating. I moved from the north side if Mil. back in 1991, to the north side of Washington Cty. My rates doubled because, I had to drive further to work. It dosen't matter what we do, their going to stick us eaither way. I haven't had a claim in 17 yrs. A new vehicle, a used one, it really dosn't matter, bend over and take it. They rule the world.

I have no problem with the new law of having to have insurance, however if everyone is required to have insurance why would the rates need to be increased??? How is anyone going to afford the increase when they can barely afford what they are paying now? This is just going to make things worst and I still see people driving around with out insurance and what does that solve?

There exists a theory that a person will be sued for an amount up to what a person is able to pay. Higher insurance minimums will entice Jim Doyle's friends (trial lawyers) to sue your insurance company for a greater amount, adding more litigation costs for your insurance company. Thereby, passing those costs onto you and I.
I am always amused that these types of laws bypass our legislative process. The people we pay BIG money to represent us sit by and watch big impact laws pass by "piggy backing" them onto a budget bill.
It should be criminal. It also shows why they always want to re-do the budget so they can pass more laws to help their special interests who are making the big campaign contributions.

I am deathly afraid of this. I am living pay check to pay check. Working a min. wage job, going to school, and trying to raise a child. I simply can not afford to carry auto insurance. I know that I should have it and would if my family could afford it. What am I suposed to do now? Its a matter of food on the table or auto insurance?

Your rates are going up because they know you will pay it.

Everyone gets CAR insurance= higher rates.
Everyone gets HEALTH insurance= higher rates??
