Discrimination Against Afro Hair in the Military

Full story: hair.afroglitzmag.com

All over the globe, the military is forcing black women to get rid of their natural hair by straightening/relaxing/wearing wigs. Right now, a black woman is being forced to cut her locs, and straighten/perm the remainder of her afro hair. If not, she will most likely face a discharge. Tell congress to help stop discrimination against natural afro hair in the military by signing the petition here . People should be able to serve in the military and be themselves!

just another way of stripping black people of their identity, anything that doesnt promote white eurocentric ideology is unacceptable to them. Black people you cant be who you are only what they want you to be in the army.

all military personnel white, black, red, male or female should have all their hair shaved off with a 1/2 clip.

If you don't like it, don't sign up.

C'mon people. This is the same military that forces gays to stay quiet about who they are. Discrimination against non-White heterosexual All-American males in the military is a given. People know that when they sign up. Yes, it's unfair but so is most of life. That doesn't mean we should be complacent but that does mean we shouldn't go crazy about the small things. To me, hair is a small thing. It's JUST an accessory. If my hair was that important to me then I would not have VOLUNTEERED to serve in an army were they are going to tell me how to wear it.

And in order to be accepted they have to put caustic, not to mention harmful chemicals in their hair?? I say, SCREW THAT!! and Ill be joining the air foce soon too!

Reason is that wearing military head gear and chemical protective suits ect. demand strict grooming rules. If you join the service you must obey the rules. Cant be walking around looking like Buck Wheat

It would be much tougher for a sniper to get a successful headshot. The bullet might just pass through the afro-perimeter without touching the skull.

But you'd be a bigger target to spot.

It's the military. Hair regulations for males is 4 inches in length, and 2 inches in bulk. That applies to the white guys too, there not allowed to walk around looking like Buck White.

Whose hair naturally grows into dreadlocks? Wearing your hair the way it naturally grows is one thing (i.e. afros etc.), but no ones hair naturally grows into dreadlocks unless they never comb it and it gets matted up. In either case, there are certain hairstyles that are not appropriate for the workplace-whether said hairstyle is on a minorities head or not.

Don't get me wrong, some people get dreadlocks and they look fantastic, but lets not forget that regardless of how "natural" it seems, it's still a hairstyle that most pay money to get done. The same as employers reserve the right to tell you that you are dressed inappropriately, they also reserve the right to tell you that your hairstyle is inappropriate. If you don't like it, quit and be your own boss.

What's "tatooed" mean?

For you to seemingly view yourself as so superior to Blacks, you sure do seem to have a problem with reading what you type before you post it.

Anyone who gets their panties in a twist over this should stay out of the military.

And for you idiots who claim this is racial...how do you account for regs against growing "natural" beards and mustaches?

What he means by that is that the hair isn't chemically altered. so therefore dread locks are natural. It's not a weave and it's not permed. But since your a white man you wouldn't understand that.
