He was in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, serving bravely in Vietnam on the USS Valley Forge. He later became a carpenter and an Over the Road Truck Driver, being an owner/operator. I remember when I was a little girl and working in the yard with my daddy I noticed that he had a hole in the bottom of one of his shoes and I said daddy you need to get you some new shoes because one of your shoes has a hole in the bottm and he turned to me and said little girl when all of you kids have everything that yall need first then I will buy me a new pair. I didn't really realize because I was so young what he really meant but as I grew older and kept thinking of that same story it touched my heart so much. My daddy worked so hard his entire life and did without just so that us kids would have what we needed. Daddy I just want you to know that I will love and miss you so much and that you will be in my heart forever.
