I feared there may be a gang connection to Ms. Carson's murder. If it is proven that the assailant is linked to a gang, the powers-that-be must make an important decision:(1) prosecute this person as an individual and wait for the next gamg member to take another innocent life, or (2) create new policy aimed at gangs so people like Eve Carson, Jamiel Shaw, and every other innocent victim of gang violence do not become statistics. Both earned much more than that in their short lives.

Gangs are organized, they are not state sponsored, and they commit acts of violence that take the lives of innocent citizens. Sound familiar? What is the difference between randomly shooting a few people across the nation every day and flying airliners into buildings, or exploding a bomb in a public place? Gangs have taken more American lives than terrorists; however, Congress has not acted with the same urgency as it has in combating al-qaeda. Federal anti-gang legislation can be easily created under color of the commerce clause and because gangs operate across state lines. Gun control does not work. Various regulations that prohibit apparel have been found to be unconstitutional and still would not work. Maybe it is time the government open its eyes and see gangs for what they are, terrorist organizations. If gang members suffered the same fate as John Walker-Lindh, there would be less of them on the streets and there may finally be a deterrent that works.
