listen, to Stephanie, I completly get your point at that, don't get me wrong, I completly understand. horse slaughter is very necessary. horses are being over bred and are being neglected by stupid horse owners. but the way it is done is inhumane, if slaughter houses were to find a completly different way to do business i would be fine. i would suggest a better way of transportation. maybe try being kind to the horses. definatly better storing conditons for them while they wait at the houses. and FEED THEM. don't just figure "hey, their dying anyway, why waste the money" and finally get a head holder or somthing that will for sure kill them in an instant.
ok, and this is to Zshan that ingorant little fool. as i said before, you bite your toungue, it seams i must educate you on the matter of horse slaughter. first of all, you leave the god damn tree huggers out of this, at least they try to save the natural speciese of the earth while the stupid fools like you talk people down on false information! Horse slaughter is very much different than cow slaughter. for cows it is under law that they must be stunned before they are killed. for horses, there is no such law. the cows usually get stunned by by an electric shock where as to avoid most possible pain. the horses are shot in the head with a nail gun untill they get their head. but what most often happens is the nail will not kill them and they will be conscious while hoisted by one leg in the air to have their throats cut and they must bleed to death. now that you are educated, I do hope you understand.

What is cruel about horse slaughter is that the horses are not dead when they are skinned. They are only zapped with an electrical current that makes them fall to the ground and helpless! This is disgusting!!!!

I've been riding and showing horses for over 20 years. I have worked at a vet clinic and trained horses. Slaughter is a necessary evil. There are between 60,000 and 90,000 horses slaughtered in the US every year. Most of these horses are quarter horses and many are registered. The biggest problem is overbreeding. Many people think that just because it's a mare it should be bred, more so if it has papers. Lack of education is also a problem, owning a horse is $$ and labor intensive. I don't agree with the way slaughter is carried out. I think that we should practice good animal husbandry and the animal should be treated with respect and dignity right up to the point that it is killed. Animals should be killed quickly and they should not suffer. Right now hay is at a premium in many states. Where I live $10 a bale. Most horses will eat a bale every 2-3days. There are many people that get in over their head and the horses starve as a result. The grasslands cannot support them, horses are not wild animals. Even mustangs aren't wild, they're feral and they are ruining grazing and grasslands for native wildlife. Bottem line horses are livestock like cattle and swine. They are not pets and most people shouldn't own one. Better a horse die a quick death than starve slowly over months. And those of you that think rescues can take all of these think again, most of the rescues in my area are full. It comes back down to $$. If you don't own and care for a horse you don't get it. Those of you that have never worked with livestock are living in fairy land and you don't get the half of what is involved in horse ownership.

I live in Canada. There is a pasture not to far from me that is rented by a man I believe to be Belgiun. They breed and raise foals for the purpose of slaughter. These are not unwanted or insane horses.They are being bred for the sole purpose of slauter. We also have a paper called the western producer in which I saw an add for fat colts. What do you think they want fat colts for. Educate Yourselves.These people want young horses as they are more tender etc. the same as young calves and yearling steers. I hope to see this practice banned in both Canada and the USA.

i am only 14 years old but i still want to fight for what is right!
cruelty of what humans are doing to horses, i will join the fight to help horses around the world to stop being slaughtered! Here are some ideas of things you can do to help the horses in your comunity!
adopt 2 horses from a horse slaughter, and start a rescue center for horses that are in the slaughter houses, you will need the help of parents and people of your community,
but horses are the spirit of the west, the echoing lost hoofbeats on the mountains, the whisper in the wind, the lost souls of the west, dont let them go, every horse should have a fighting chance!!
i hope this has inspired you to do something in your community and to horses all around the world, its now or never to save them,...I CHOOSE NOW!! what about you, repost this message on your home page to stop the slaughter, and end the abuse, together we can do anything!

The fact that horses are being raised specifically for slaughter needs to be adressed as obviosly those that feel we have to many unwanted horses should be aware that if a large percentage of slaughtered horses are bred just to be slaughtered or to raise more foals to be slaughtered we must not have to many. Near where I live there are people raising horses for this purpose. I expect that this is also happening in the states as well I know that since finding out about this farm I cannot pass a feild with a lot of horses without wandering if they are meat horses. It has taken away the pleasure I always got from watching the horses run in the fields with their foals kicking up their heels. There are olso people who contribute to the problem by raising horses and sending the ones they cant sell to auctions burying their heads in the sand and refusing to realize that most of thosebabies go to slaughter. People need to stop breeding serios thought.

A: do you know the slaughter process? are you aware that by law, the slaughter plants can't take horses that aren't able to walk on their own? B: if people would stop with the indiscriminant breeding, there wouldn't be an overpopulation problem... there's overpopulation problem with people too. children are starving and being consumed with disease. C: do you know how many "bad" horses i've taken in from auctions? i know the horses you're talking about. i've been able to turn them all around. D: stolen horses are stolen for a reason. someone wanted the money. no one's stupid enough to keep the horse they stole on their own property. the stolen animals go through auctions to get a quick buck or two, and most often it's one of the lower end auctions that don't really look into whether the horse is stolen or not, and then a dealer or kill buyer buys it for a rock bottom price. and finally: do we really need all the caps? i think it makes it harder to read, and you seem more desperate. THE HORSE ECONOMY SUCKS RIGHT NOW ANYWAYS BECAUSE OF PEOPLE BREEDING TOO MANY HORSES AND NOW KNOWING WHAT THEY'RE DOING WITH THEM, SO THEY SELL THEM CHEAP. you can buy a registered weanling with so-so bloodlines for under $100, when less than 10 years ago, that same horse might have brought $600. It's so frustrating, you have no idea- maybe you don't know how many horses are in this country? Wake up,look outside your little emotional box and smell the horse-poop. If you don't believe me when i say we NEED slaughter, go to an auction and work riding horses through for a real horse trader who ends up with the type of horses that go to slaughter. you will see why I feel so passionately that some of these equines need to be thinned out. Society doesn't promote criminally insane people having kids do they? No, insane people get locked up. if they commit a crime, they sometimes even get executed. But horses? oh, no we wouldn't want to hurt them, so we'll let them breed freely and make all sorts of worthless babies that degrade the value of good registered horses now that "anybody" can afford one due to overpopulation. and whats worse is that slaughter is only a suppressor for and not the cure for the main problem, which is Neglect and mismanagement. What's cruel is letting horses live with people who don't know how to take care of them. There's only so many "Good Homes" and none of them want "bad horses".

Really if I could I would sew anybody that would take a knife to a horses body.The crappy people that would do this they should try togo in a stuffy trailer and get hung by there feet.Who could ever have a job like that.There abunch A HOLES who dont care about anything but money!
