Has anyone ever noticed that as a class - doctors are NOT: polite, well mannered, thoughtful of their patients feelings, punctual? Is it arrogance? Is there such a shortage of doctors that the market must bare their indifference? Why is it that Doctors are such d o u c h e bags?

Not every patient can improve 100 per cent after surgery . Neurosurgeons are sued more than other specialty .As a consequence they have higher malpractice premiums .There wont be any brain surgeons on LI if they are put in this impossible situation .

These two surgeons Milhorat and Bolognese have everyone fooled. They are obviously over rated, egocentric and greedy. They may want to have their own heads examined. Their impaired judgement will destroy them and maybe others too.

Kinder, more talented, generous doctors you will never meet. Chiari is a difficult disease, almost 1/3 of patients fail to get long term relief or get worse after surgery. As for the original suit, I can only assume it was some kind of screw up because neither of these guys (who do volunteer work and perform surgery at no charge in cases of need) is the type. The Milan conference is huge, and the chance to learn the latest developments. There is a lawyer to sue for anything. I've seen them help thousands of people, then when I needed help...it was help first worry about paying later. It's easy to be a cynic, and blame an unfeeling medical system. Unfortunately whatever happened we will never know, the insurance company will settle and they will never get to tell their side of the story. No doctor just doesn't show if they know they have a patient on the table. I hope all of the people involved, the doctors, the patient (who had to endure anesthesia) and the hospital can recover from this unfortunate incident.

While I can't speak for the incident on the patient left on the table, these doctors are the best for treating chiari malformation. The Chiari Institute is the best place to go for treatment & people come from all over the world to see them. As a patient, I am fully aware of the risks of surgery and understand that there are no guarantees. There is always a chance something can go wrong, it won't work or that you could be worse. 50% of chiari surgeries done by other doctors fail & you go to them to have those corrected. I find it hard to beleive that the patients and their families were not fully informed. Check out their website -- its clear that they do research too. Without research, none of us could be helped. And the conference in milan is on chairi malformation -- again, check the website.

And we are suppose to feel sorry for these idiots if (or when) they get their licenses taken away for good. I THINK NOT. How could they do such a thing to leave a patient on a table like that? What is wrong with them? There is no excuse for this what-so-ever. How can patience have respect for doctors when they do things like this?

High volume doctors?...that's a red flag right away.
Why DO patients put these doctors on a pedestal?
Dangerous. Lose their license to practice and let this go to trial for both of them.

This is precisely why we need universal health care. Doctor's should be on salary and not profit making business owners. Doctors care more about money than people. And if you disagree, hate to tell you...you are people.

Agreed, they are good at their specialty - if they chose to treat you.

What does that have to do with a doctor being irresponsible and leaving a patient on a table? If they are so worried about being sued and malpractice insurance then don't be a doctor. There is a million professions out there.

How can North Shore have a neurosurgeon who is NOT EVEN BOARD CERTIFIED?!! Their focus is about MAKING MONEY, pure and simple! Now that they have a near monopoly on health care on LI, beware!! My family members have had HORRIBLE experiences there!! AVOID NORTH SHORE-- go somewhere else for your medical care!!

Its up to the anesthesia department to be sure the doctor doing the surgery is present before they put her to sleep, why in the world would the neurosurgeons be suspended?

What you are proposing is NOT the answer. My relatives in Canada constantly complain about the UNIVERSAL health care there. Long waits for substandard care by people who just don't give a damn. Much advanced care is denied. Those who can afford it come to the US for care. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, like anything else...

Hospitals have put so much pressure on those in the operating room to HURRY HURRY HURRY that care is "assembly line" and mistakes are often made. Anesthesia, nurses and techs are told to get moving as fast as possible. Short of shackling the surgeon to the operating table, it's impossible to guarantee his or her wherabouts once the consent and correct operative site has been marked by the patient. If you are having surgery, MAKE SURE that all of the key players are present and that your operative site has been clearly marked prior to going into the operating room.
