My dad was diagnosed with nsclc stage 4 6 weeks ago, the doctor has told us he will be receiving chemo to slow the aging process of the cancer.

My question out there to anyone reading with experience is, is there another type of chemo to try and kill it off completely and not just slow the aging process?

Thanks ever so much for your reply, it means a lot! I probably should have mentioned I'm in the UK (Scotland). Would that kind of alternative treatment be available in the UK? We were offered a vaccine which was created in Cuba, but because my dad was in so much pain he was given radio therapy along with strong pain killers, the doctor said once the pain was under control he would be given this vaccine along with chemo, but now the doctors say because he had the radio therapy he can't get the vaccine, by this time we were so sure it would save his life, and now we are left numb and confused.

"About 85 percent of Americans with all types of lung cancer die within five years of diagnosis."

This article contains very little attribution. I believe it's more like 60 percent.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "aging" process. Sounds like your dad is receiving palliative care? If his cancer has metastisized, I am not aware of any chemo that can kill it off, but never give up.
There are trials going on right now, but they're brutal. I'm in California and there is a trial underway in Vallejo. Also, the SF hospital in this article has trials, but I don't know if you're dad would qualify for one.
