Gay activists dejected at election outcome

Full story: Chico Enterprise-Record

Cecelia Burnett and Ann Swanson had already set their wedding date. When they joined about 1,000 other gay marriage supporters for an election night party in a Holiday Inn ballroom, they hoped to celebrate the vote that would make it possible.

I know this a HOT ISSUE. I personally don't care what type of lifestyle you live or what your preferences are. They do not affect or influence my life. But when I am asked to vote on this issue. I WILL ALWAYS vote marriage between man & woman. That is I what I believe. Remember this, I will not preach to you or call you names. You are who you are and I am who I am.

David would it harm you if gay couples could legally wed? I understand how they are harmed because they can't wed. I don't understand how the rest of us would be harmed if they could.

I do understand the couple in article being dejected but I hope they realize it is only a matter of time. Pools show that younger people are much more accceptant than older people. The prejudice will disappear with more understanding. And young people are much more aware of how many gay friends they have and so are less likely to see gay people as deviant in some way. Keep you heads up people. It is only a matter of time until the live and let live philosophy moves to the front.

Stormy is right that it is only a matter of time. I will live to see marriage equality become the law of the land, and I can only hope that when that happens and the world doesn't devolve into chaos, people will finally understand what a corrosive bolus of pernicious nonsense christianity is. The RC/LDS coalition is digging its own grave with this malicious hate campaign, and it's only a matter of time before it comes in for the ridicule it so richly deserves.

All would be equal if only I could vote on one of your civil rights.

This is the problem with you voting on my rights. You may not agree but when it comes to equality people's personal beliefs should not come into play. The only time a right should be denied is if a valid reason could be presented. Your personal beliefs are not valid reasons anymore then my personal beliefs should deny you something. My marriage has no impact on you or your life.

Stormy,

We are all harmed by gay marriage because it cuts away at the social fabric. Kids need to understand that some things are sacred and solid. As the world gets more and more crazy it is important for children to realize that they can count on something.

"For most people the concept of liberty only applies to that which does not offend them."

Just remember that the next time you try and justify your bigotry DAVID. I hope your "god" whatever or whoever that might be, judges you as you judge others and deems you unworthy of acceptance because you were a bigot.

Tyler ~ I agree with you. Kids do need to understand that some things are sacred and solid and that they can count on something. I suggest that acceptance and tolerance are better canditates for that than fear and prejudice. As the world gets more and more crazy, as you say, let kids see that they live in a society where our differences are less important than what we have in common. And, of course, if it turns out that our kids are gay then showing acceptance and tolerance in a crazy world would be especially important.

I don't think we want to teach our kids that it is a good thing to keep other people down.

Yeah right. The problem with so many gay men is they live in liberal, pro-gay areas and surrounded themselves with only liberals and gay men. They don't realize that most Americans are repulsed by their objectives and the fact that the gay activists try to ram their agenda up the collective backsides of this nation only hurts their cause.

Thank you Maine. The people of Maine are absolutely beautiful.

Stormy,

I am talking about values our kids can count on. Marriage between a man and a woman is a sacred value.

Tyler ~

I get that. Marriage between a man and a woman is a sacred value for you. For gay couples marriage as a commitment is a sacred value. I see no good reason to impose our sacred values on other people's values. It isn't like they are mutually exclusive. They dont' conflict. Just because gay people can legally marry doesn't mean that you couldn't marry or that your marriage somehow loses it's value.

The values I would hope our kids could count on are tolerance and acceptance. Those values will take kids a lot farther in this world than values of prejudice and fear.

I understand you are afraid that society might be hurt by gay marriage but I really can't see anyway or reason that it could be. Marriage is tough. If two people are in love and want to make a go of it I think it is good for society to support them. And beside, it really isn't any of our business.

And do you see how you are doing the exact same thing as the people you are attacking?
They don't like gays, so they attack. You don't like Christianity, so you attack. Where's the difference? Liberals are supposed to be open minded and accepting of others' beliefs and lifestyles. I have yet to see that regarding this issue. All I see is the hatred and intolerance. "You don't believe the same as I do, so you're stupid and mean." That's what I see coming from this issue. All frosting...no cake. And as usual, a small minority has to scream and throw the loudest tantrum in politically correct America, because the rest of the country does'nt accept them with open arms. How's that for a social medium???

I have no problem with hospital visitation or inheritance, but:
I remember when homosexuals only wished to be left alone because what was "behind closed doors" was their business. I believed in that but now it really isn't behind closed doors anymore is it?

I would also like to point out that if gay marraige is legalized there is no moral or legal arguement against group marraige, for that matter marraige with barnyard animals.

This is all fascinating, but it's a peculiar choice of "news" stories for the ER.

Is the ER getting concerned about being PC now?

If my marriage influences your kids in a negative way then how does allowing a convicted murderer in prison affect their view of marriage?

If the actions of others affect your kids in such a manner then they are doomed. In my mind if you view something in a certain way then it's up to you as a parent to teach your kids your values without making the rest of the world live by your values especially if that means that other people don't have the same advantages as you.

We are not talking about the sacred vows taken in a church. This a about civil marriage. People of no faith can enter into marriage.....but if it's sacred to you then pass on those values to your kids. That is your responsiblity as a parent.

how can marriage be between a women and a women or man and man? marriage has always been defined between a man and a women since the dawn of time.... if you want to start your own type of togetherness or belief then come up with your own word for it.... and people wouldnt care so much.... people that really really believe in marriage dont want it to mean any less or any more then they have been taught since they have been born.... it is something very scared to them..... so move on and try to make up your own type of aka 'marriage'

No, actually it's been between a man and woman, a woman, a woman, a woman etc... or a woman and her rapist... or it was a transfer of property.. or it was a man, his wife and his many concubines... there has NEVER in the history of man been only ONE definition of marriage. NEVER.

The biggest difference is if I disagree with them, it's a matter of disagreement. I don't try to outlaw their marriage, their faith, their entire family unit.
When they disagree with me, they do. See the difference?

Not unlike the people in the 50's who liked black people and didn't want to physically harm them, but would have always voted to maintain the superiority of whites.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Cancer

If you want to avoid having a row with someone, get out and about as much as possible today so you can work off all your nervous energy. If you stay in one place for too long you'll be in danger of becoming moody, and possibly even a right old crosspatch. You might also lose your temper with loved ones who are being bolshie or who have the audacity to disagree with you about something. Lighten up, Cancer!
