Erections during massages is it normal?

I have had only a couple of massages mainly for fear of embarassing myself. I know they are not sexual but under the circumstances its hard not to get erect.

For all the LMT's is this common, not common, etc.?

I was able to prevent it on my first and was doing good on my second until the therapist began concentrating on my inner thigh. She spent twice as much time on it once I started getting hard I think she was actually enjoying it. Nothing happened mind you but it is still embarassing.

I was just wondering if it is common or not. If it is I may just go for it and enjoy my massage.

Don't worry, it happens all the time. Act like it's not there and she probably won't aknowledge it . . . and she may take it as a compliment even though she has no sexual thoughts or intentions with or about you(not implying you're a slug or anything).

how did she see that you were getting erect? Were you undraped or was it sticking out or tenting?

I was nude under a sheet which was quite sheer. She did a good job of keeping me draped and working the sheet so I was never exposed.

However, due to the sheerness of the sheet it was not difficult to see the erection.

I understand how it can be embarassing with a female LMT because the fear that she thinks you are getting turned on, but from most everyone's comments here it is normal and happens alot. Stay relaxed and just enjoy the massage without thinking about your body's reaction to her touch. If she's enjoying it, so be it. Hey you both end up leaving happy at the end (and I don't mean that kind of happy).

It has happened a couple of times to me also. Not a full blown one, but slightly when massage the front of my thighs. It is so frustrating because I cannot relax and enjoy the massage. I end up in a mental battle trying to stop it and am embarrassed at the same time. Very frustrating.

I have been getting massages regularly since I was a teen, both from masseuses and masseurs. I get a wicked erection virtually always. I learned to enjoy it and usually I get some extra (I think) attention since the LMT's take a boner as a sign that I am really into the massage. Masseurs treat it the same way... Just need to have more massages; the erections won't go away but the worry and embarassment will disappear for sure. Lie back and be proud, not embarassed. My Dad used to tell me to be proud, not embarassed when I was a kid and tented at school constantly. Good advice for life!!!!!!

Wow great info. I've not ever gotten a massage because I tend to get erections rather easily and I figured that for sure I'd get an erection during a massage. This makes me feel a lot more comfortable! Let er rip Thanks

We guys gotta stick together and not let our major attributes be hidden and ashamed of. If the ladies can make a lifetime project of thrusting their boobs at us, we should surely be able to be proud of what makes us males.. Europeans are so much more advanced in this department than Americans are... So as you said Ohio, let er rip...

Im in massage school at the moment.. We actually had a paper with that question on it.. If your male client is laying in supine position (faced up) and gets an erection, what do you do? When giving a massage you are moving fluids, releasing toxins and such and that can be stimulating.. When draping certain areas, the sheets may glide in areas which are also stimulating.. It is perfectly normal for a male to get an erection. Massage therapist understand that this can occur and in my experience, it doesn't bother me. Don't be embarrassed, its natural. As long as the therapist isn't dressed provocative, or coming on to you in any way. Try not to be embarrassed, its very common, and mostly expected.

Lacie, You r right on target. Where these small minded people got their education in life is amazing to me. Perhaps the best part of my growing up years, none of which I really appreciated until university days, was our openness with the human body as a kid. Nude beaches; nude at our pool as a family; talking about the body in all of its variations. And both of my parents who were willing to address any question that came up and bring up those issues that we didn't think to ask. I thank my parents endlessly for being open and honest, as difficult as it could sometimes be to talk about the really difficult topics. My wife has learned a lot and realizes the importance of open honest talk with our own kids. Remember, just because we know how to make babies, doesn't mean that we all should be doing so!!!!!

I am a therapist, and have seen many erections. I allow draped or un-draped massage according to my client's preference. I ask them at the beginning of the massage which they prefer.

It happens whether draped or un-draped, but it seems to happen more with the un-draped individuals. I have seen large, bobbing erections to a point that it's just about in my face, and some that even end up oozing a bit. I consider it all very, very normal.

Sometimes it does happen that I get an erection, sometimes it doesn't, and it's true that most professional therapists just ignore it when it does. The only time I was ever embarrassed was once when then the therapist (female) saw that I was erect, covered me with a towel (I'd been undraped before), squirted some massage oil in the palm of my right hand, and moved my hand so it was under the towel. I couldn't believe she had done that, and I was going to say something like, "Excuse me, that's really inappropriate" or "I'm sorry, I don't feel comfortable with what you just did," but then it occurred to me that she might not have done it for my sake but for hers - that my erection might have been making HER uncomfortable and she wanted me to make it go away to alleviate her discomfort with the situation. Which was still pretty awkward, but if that's what it was I didn't want to make things worse by arguing about it. So I gave myself a few strokes under the towel, feeling mortified (I'd never in my life done that with a stranger watching). Thankfully it only took a few strokes and when I ejaculated it all went into the towel, which she then balled up and set aside...but it was very awkward and very embarrassing, and I never went back there.

To me it seems thatshe did it ALL wrong. First for not saying something supportive to you. Secondly, if she thought you needed to cum, she could have put lotion or oil near you along with a small towel, walked to the door and said "I will be back in a few minutes...." You would have understood, she would not have stepped beyond the limits for most of us guys, and if you felt the need, you could have 'handled' the job quite successfully. At least that's my humble opinion.

I always erect when they massage my thighs and butt. I used to control but now i have learned to enjoy and let it fully erect. It's totally normal unless you are not a man. There was this incident that a sweet masseuse told me that I'm really naughty and i just simply reply that "Yes, i had a very tired day and my control is weak".

I have had several massages over the years, and this has always been a concern that prevented me from relaxing completely. I was seeing the same therapist for a couple of months and I guess I got more comfortable...and it happened. She sort of akwardly stopped working on my leg, said, "Take as much time as you need" and left the room. I am mortified, and will probably not get a massage again.

I don't know what kind of training that MT had, but that just seems wrong.

An erection during a massage is NOT a big deal, it happens. Leaving the room so you can "take care of it" seems very unprofessional in my humble opinion.

Many of us were trained to just ignore the erection and not embarass clients by mentioning the erection. Maybe you could try going to a different MT until you find one you are comfortable with.

It would also help the MT that you were seeing if you told her that you were mortified by what she did, we can only learn and get better at our job if our clients tell us these things.
