I think that some regulation is necessary now in order to prevent panic in the future wich may result in laws that are too stict that make it impossible for those that actually need long term pain management to get the meds they need. I think that no doctor should perscribe opiates for more than 90 days to a patient without having an MRI or other applicable proof of what is causing the pain.

What 'bout cpp's like myself where the pain is not visible on an MRI. Chronic pain is a mystery, and I have no idea how long I will have to suffer with it. There is no real way for me to "prove" that I have the pain I do, but its very real and I'm thankful to have a doctor who trusts me and realizes that I'm not takin' my meds to have a good time.

Yes, there are conditions that are the exception.

Then the law-makers recognise the need for exceptions and so we get rules and regulations. Eventually we lose the plot - somewhere between paragraph 6, sub-section 3.ix(a) and paragraph 7, sub-section 5.viii(c)- and we have as much mess as we started with. I must say it's an incredible statistic though - one nation accounting for 80% of the world's painkillers. Can living the "Great American Dream" cause that much agony?

I don't know if it's available here in Australia and, if so, whether it has the same name. Are you asking how dare I comment on painkillers? Or have you mistaken me for someone else? I don't think I said anything offensive but I apologise if I have gotten up your nose somehow. I was attempting to say that - no matter how well we try to frame our laws (in my country or yours)- there are always unfortunate people who may fall through the cracks. All the doctors, dealers, and even the the grand ole gov't is far too addicted to the benjamins to care about peoples lives.....not to mention its the peoples own choice to do with the opes as they will...after all, it is America aint it?!...oh well, whatever, go ahead and restrict it all and then we'll see tons of heroin flood our streets and we'd be prayin for the way it "used to be"!!! Ha ha ha....we are f**ked.

Ha ha ha....we are f**ked. Very true. I could find a bag of "H" in 20mins if I wanted to. Yet I nearly have to beg my doctor to let me take 2 5/500 vicodins a day! lol why? Because they have to do tests, many costly tests. I told my doctor today I wanted an MRI. She told me they first have to do x-rays because that's how the insurance works. It's all garbage.

It's only a matter of time before the Federal Government and the FDA regulate everything to the point it will take a phone call from GOD to get prescribed anything. Then what will follow is people going to H or Coke or meth and then we have another major epidemic all because some whiney ass in Congress gets a kickback. It is all political!!!

Unless a person has chronic pain like in MS or Cancer and isn't going to live more than ten years the pain meds are going to rot your liver out and you might as well figure you won't be around too long once you get hooked.
I think drugs should be legalized and taxed while doing away with the dealers like in Portugal. This way the drug addicts can kill themselves but when they buy the drugs the taxes can go to pay for the health care that will be needed as the liver and kidneys start to fail and then the heart and brain goes.
This way, people in real pain won't have problems getting meds and the drug addicts can destroy their own bodies at the same time and everyone is happy.

Shoot I'm on some OP OxyContins and had sum fentanyl just few minutes ago lol but seriously. Painkillers just make you feel so good, but just becareful you don't get addicted to em. I never get addicted because I use methadone to come off opiates and never have any withdrawals from those. So I'm all good. Live life how you want to as long as you know the consequences. Becareful, I used to be addicted but I don't have to go througfh that anymore since the methadone.
