A Humane approach

Full story: Vallejo Times-Herald

The big Persian cat was scared -- had been hissing and swiping at animal shelter volunteers -- so her chakras were cleared and her cage sprayed with a homeopathic floral essence.

What a load of...I agree that Durston needs to be dumped. I think Wilson needs to be replaced as well.

Do you ever wonder what happened to all those volunteers that left? Were they ever given the chance to speak about why they left or stopped their essential volunteer work? What about supporters and donors who no longer give their time and money to this organization?

In this tight economy, when we are seeing ever more animals being dumped, we cannot allow our local humane society to waste funds on staffers who don't perform or piss off the public/donors.

The HS and board is run too much like a friends club. Performance, follow through and accountability needs to be the way that org is run.

This comment is right on. Nobody asked my granddaughter why she quit as a volunteer; the answers would singe your hair. BVHS has gone to hell in a handbasket under Wilson's reign. Get rid of him and his cronies. I won't set foot in the place until he's gone, let alone donate to or adopt from BVHS. We put our funds and our efforts elsewhere, as many others do.

There is no evidence that homeopathic remedies are "effective" in either humans or animals, and the overwhelming evidence suggests that homeopathic remedies are nothing more than Snake Oil (worse, in fact, because they're simply water).

The "Law of Similars" is nothing more than pure fantasy, and there is no, absolutely no, reason to believe that an ultra-diluted solution will cure anything based on the original chemical's production of similar symptoms.

If the humane society cares about its pets, it will invest its time and money in something that will actually benefit them, not in the hocus-pocus of homeopathic fraudsters.

"In this tight economy, when we are seeing ever more animals being dumped, we cannot allow our local humane society to waste funds on staffers who don't perform or **** off the public/donors."

Let's see - the Humane Society's annual Barkitecture fundraiser brought in a high-five-figure amount of money, they've just gotten a new mobile adoption van donated to them, and despite the incredible increase in animal surrenders, they're finding homes for their animals at an extremely rapid clip.

End. Of. Story.

Peter Wilson and Croonies only stick out for the closed circle of friends.. End of True Story. Wilson needs to be dismissed from his position. He is a complete jerk.

Sounds like Wilson is finding to his dismay that this latest bit of shameless self-promotion is resulting in public derision and calls for his ouster. Expect more comments like this as he alerts his cronies. Doesn't change the truth about what we know goes on there.

I'd worry less about chakras and more about karma...it's a b*tch!

No Wilson and Durston are the fur burning freaks. Wilson hates Christians as a backlash because of the voting of prop 8. Mention the word God to him, he freaks out, and goes ahead sends the animal you rescued to its death in Fairfield. Wilson needs a time out!

Peter Wilson may be politically short-sighted, a poor communicator, disorganized and overwhelmed but he has a great love and respect for the animals.

David Sidie...well the tales are legendary of who he 'sends to Fairfield', a.k.a. a death sentence.

This is a great start, but it doesn't begin to cover it. You can add self-absorbed and egotistical, but worse for the volunteers and staff at BVHS is intentionally belittling, demeaning, manipulative, and disingenuous.

As for his "great love and respect for the animals," he has a great love for himself and his own dogs. He doesn't care for cats, and has said so. Ugly cat? Off to Fairfield. The overall impression is that he doesn't care what you think or whom he hurts, and his actions and attitude are apparently beginning to come back to haunt him.

Surprised at the negative outpouring here, Mr. Wilson? You shouldn't be. I'm glad to see people finally speaking up.

Really, time for a change. In the meantime, there are other animal rescue organizations in Solano and Contra Costa that are truly worthy of support.

OMG if any of this is true someone needs to make some big changes. Isn;t there some over sight of this group? Why is this happening? I don't want to go to another county for services. Doesn't the mayor know about this?

All this talk about transparancy in government but no one seems to kknow what is going on at the pound. How much money do they get each year?

Believe it or not, The Fairfield Shelter is nicer. They let us have the dog back. Peter is on power trip.

is the council the oversight body for this group? sounds like there is controversy as to the weighting of concern to be less for cats than dogs and there should be absolutely no disparity.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aries

It won't be long before you start to feel bored today, unless you can distract yourself - you're switching from one activity to another. Ideally, you should keep yourself amused by doing something that's unusual or challenging, otherwise you'll be tempted to stir up trouble just to see what happens next! Even though you know that's a bad idea, you won't be able to resist, unless you've got something better to do with your time.
