Left side tenderness

The last week or more I have noticed a tender spot on my left side. It is located down my side just below the base of my lowest left rib. It only is tender when I press on it. It seemed to come and go for a week or more but the last two days I have noticed it more. Could this be diverticulitis?

I don't know but what you described is pretty much the same feeling I have except it stasy numb for hours sometimes. Diverticulitis is caused by small perferations of the intestines. I don't how that would effect my side or yours but it seems like we both should be seeing a doctor.

It could also be only trapped gas, do you have any bowel disorder, that can sometimes throw your system out of wack and have pain under your rib....but certianly if your worried , get it checked out...good luck to you both!!

I feel tenderness and a small lump under my left rib.I had a cat scan and the said it was a fatty lump.
Have you ever heard of such a thing.It has been checked by 2 doctors and a cat scan

I just had a pain start yetserday under my right rib, and it only hurts to press on and If I stretch my rigt side in any way. I feel like tere is a lump just below my rigt side but I am not 100% sure, it also is painful down my side.

I have sharp pain and tenderness in one spot on my left side almost parallel with my navel. I feel as if I need to have a bowel movement but cannot. During the past week, I've had diarirhea and malaise. Appetite is ok....no fever.. The pain has been off and on all day....constant for the past hour and a half. Do I need to go go the emergency room at local hospital. Thank you.

Actually, diverticulitis is caused by small pouches on your colon that get infected or inflamed. The only reason I know this is because my chronic 5 month diarrhea helped cause diverticular pouches in me, and now I am at risk for diverticulitis.

That I am not sure about.I have the same thing that has been going on 8 and a half months now.I work for a doctor and we have done x-rays,cts,mri,blood test and they still cant figure out what is wrong with me.In the last 2 month I have been having severe lower back pain and today I had to see him due to swelling,tenderness,and pain in my right elbow and knee joint.Could be blood clots.Im a mystery to them.Let me know if you figure anything out before I do.

I have a pain on the left side by my waist that flares up in pain, then goes away for a long time. One time it happened while I was sleeping, and once while I was crocheting. it hurts badly as if something was sharpe, or was going to break, then it would ease off.I have it at least once or twice a day, and have had it off and on for the past four days.

I have chronic pain on my lower left abdomen and
also on my lower left back in about the same place.
The doctors think it might be chrohns. I have been passing blood also and I passed out during a CT scan
and they rushed my to the hospital in an ambulance, but I didn't stay.

OK People, lets have a little sanity in here. I too have a similar pain on my left side just below my ribs, so I thought I'd look online to see what the possible causes might be.

HOWEVER reading all the different posts I have come to one conclusion. The cause of pain could be due to a huge number of things and it is most likely that all of us have these symptoms for different reasons.

Some will be due to stomach acid, some will be due to a colon problem, some may be due to the spleen and some will be due to a rib or musle issue. If you have blood in your stool this is serious. go to a doctor NOW and get everything checked. It may turn out to be tearing in the rectum which is quite common and whilst paonful, not that serious, BUT it could be something more serious.

The only advise I ahve to give is go and see your doctor and mention all symptoms you are having. Not just the pain, but any constipation, bloating, excess acid (and which foods may cause this), pain also in the back, headaches, split nails the lot. Then allow them to do their job and sort it out.

I know it is easy to lose fiath in a doctor when they can't sort your problem as we all want a quick fix these days, so we can get on with our lives, but the human body is complex, and basically far from perfect. Often these pains are simply a cause of poor diet, but don't waste time searching 20 different sites to try and find the answer. Go see your doctor, be 100% open and fdo what they suggest. If they can't sort it out, ask for a referal to a specialist.

i have similar simptoms but its my lower back under my ribs there is a numbness feeling and a bit of bad pain sometimes the front left hand side of my body under my ribs has some of the pain what could it be my mother told me not to worry because i have a bad case of being paranoid but while i was in bed i turned over and caught summut then the next day i was experienceing theese symptoms does anyone know what it is i also have spasms sometimes HELP PUT MY MIND AT REST.

I have the same problem. Pain in the upper left side of my abdomen, just under my ribs - it is tender/sore when I press on it.

I actually went and saw my doctor about this about 2 years ago and he felt around and said basically that without any other symptoms - and general good health - it is most likely nothing and to ignore it. Basically the - if it hurts when you touch it, don't touch it approach. So far, I haven't had any additional problems with it - it hasn't gotten any worse, and I hardly notice it ever.

I have been dealing with the last few weeks what started out as pain adjacent to my left shoulder blade (thought it was due to stress from my ex-husband being hospitilized w/heart probs), so my GP put me on Flexiril. This helps as it allows me to lie prone and sleep. Within the last 2 weeks have noticed excessive gas, belching, etc. along with pain that radiates from under my left breast and will travel @ times to the center of my chest or the bottom of my rib cage (lt) or both. Of course I thought I was having a heart attack brought on by stress. But the pain goes away when I lay down, belch, etc. Am not able to eat big meals (my waist line is so happy) but don't notice pain after any particular food, only if I were to stuff myself. I sit @ a desk a number hours a day and am under a ton of stress (all kept inside of course), thus the reason for being put on Lexapro. If anyone has any suggestions, I am completely open. It could be fatty tumors, they are generally harmless but if they are too painful they can easily be removed.

I have the same thing on my right side. I have a pain, like a bruise feeling and now there is a small lump. It's painful when I touch it or when I stretch. It has been there for about two years and the pain comes and goes. I talked to a doctor about it and she wasn't too concerned. Although, I'm not sure.

Yeah... me too. i'm going to get it checked next week. i've had a lump on my lower right ribs for a while now... they've become tender and painful. i have a similar lump on the left side which doesnt hurt and feels much smaller.

i do have fatty deposits in different areas of my body (arms). they are small little balls. so i think this could be the same.

i get yearly check ups and had blood work done a few months ago. only slightly high cholesterol.

any feedback would be appreciated. i'll post on what mine is soon. Thanks.
