all this talk from Democrats about health care refrom and no mention of tort law reform which would address medical malpractice claims. why, because those fools in Washington are all attorneys. legislation curbing the amounts in settlements would help the medical profession and health insurers. another positive effect would be limiting fees collected by these ambulance chasers.**** let them be the dying breed, there are too many attorneys for sure, and encourage our docs. to stay in business.

This shortage is nothing compared to the socialized medicine coming under Obama.

What we will have is two classes of doctors -- the good ones who only take cash or high-end insurance, and the rest who aren't good enough (like Canada)

As an attorney, I couldn't agree with you more. I do all kinds of law, including some personal injury. But I can't honestly compete with some of these giant advertising law firms. Those guys spend in the seven figures to plaster their faces everywhere and they're not even good lawyers from what I hear. I know that I never see any of them in court since they probably settle everything. I'm honestly sick of it. It cheapens what we do (if that's even possible) in the public eye, and ultimately it hurts those who are truly hurt by others.

If you figure the doctor takes 4 weeks vacation a year and works 60 hours a week that comes out to about $60 an hour before taxes.I know that sounds like alot to most people but for what they do they are underpaid. Lawyers, accountants and other professionals will make $200-300 an hour. Auto workers in Detroit make $40 an hour putting plastic parts on cars and get lifetime benefits.
What? I want to know where these accountants are working that are getting paid directly $200-300 per hour. That comes out to over 400k a year. What you pay your accountant directly isn't usually what he or she takes home. Even your average C-level finance exec isn't receiving that kind of compensation. Closer to the tune of 100-200k annually.

Obviously, Detroit's Big 3 and certain other companies are the exception to the rule, and that's their own can of worms they have to deal with.

If you think it’s bad now, just wait until Osama Obama implements socialized medicine…… I mean his health care plan. Doctors will be folding in droves and heading for Belize, Mexico, Australia, etc. The Canadians will have to go back to Canada to get their health care, and Floridians will have to go to Cuba for theirs. The county wanted change….. Bend over…… It’s coming.

You need not be concerned at all about this problem. Our new President =aka-Mesiah Obama will cure all our ills-and give everyone free healthcare and a turkey in every pot, or maybe you'll just get a goose in your butt instead.

I can't imagine why these doctors would want to leave. Sounds like a great deal to me. Spend half your youth in school and debt. Then when you get out, you get to be odered around by a bunch dim witted insurance automatons, hospital administrators and "care managers." Forced to spend tens of thousands for useless electronic health records that only benefit the insuruers, and ... If your really lucky, you might get to end your career by being pegged as a "disruptive doctor" by some disgruntled place keeper at your hospital. Mmmm! Sounds like a sweet deal to me.

The shortage of primary care doctors is exacerbated by the fact that there is no free market in health care. For most insured patients, the "consumer" of your health insurance is your company's human resources dept, not the patient. The patient perceives the insurance as a "benefit", despite the fact that this cost is deducted from the employee's potential earnings.
The insurance industry destroys the relationship between doctor and patient, both by limiting payment for legitimate care and by giving the patient the "illusion" that he is not paying for it.
Lastly, the insurance industry makes it necessary for a whole ancillary industry of office staff to exist in doctors' practices just to collect legitimate (and late) payment for work done weeks and months ago. This adds to overhead costs. Meanwhile, the unfortunate patient without insurance is forced to pay an inflated charge for the same service for which insurance co's have negotiated a lower fee with doctors; gov't regs prohibit physicians from charging anyone less than they charge Uncle Sam (ie, Medicare).
Primary care is the nickel-and-dime cost of US health care. Physicians should spurn the insurance industry, release their insurance billing depts and reduce overhead, and work for their patients for competitive fees.

Yo, Jethro!. You're preaching the same old tired crap that's been taught for over 2000: he's coming, and soon. By the way, at what point to you conclude that you've been stood up and return the prom dress? Will you people still be saying that it's the end times in 10,000 years if we're still here? By then, the Confederation of the Gas Giants and Outer Terrestrial Planets will be seen as the fulfillment of prophecy.

Why should I believe you? What evidence do have that your bible isn't just another book written by people? There's plenty of evidence that it was.

You think that I'm a bad guy for rejecting your book and its stories. But of all the imagined deities that have ever been called god or the creator of the world, you have chosen one and rejected all of the others. I've done essentially the same thing, except I was consistent and rejected them all.

Here are several of those names that have been worshipped:(I listed yours first): Jesus, Nergal, Obatala, Aigle, Aglauros, Egle, Heget, Yun Dun, Wainamoinen, Varpulis, Chloris, Bilfrost, Big Head, Nokomis, Charun, Cotys, Ull, Shen Nong, Angak' Chin Mana, Atropos, Nefertum, Nocoma, Nijole, Almudj, Ken, Skylla, Cauac, Zemyna, Koko, Xi Wangmu, Tiwaz, Chac Xib Chac, Coltus, Huang Gun, Djanggawul, Skadi, Erythia, Camenae, Hurrican, Nik, Ereshkegal, Thiassi, Kothar, Tamendonare, Madderakka, Arsnuphis, Anatiwa, Igigi, Turan, Seti, Dian Cecht, Heqet, Thalassa, Feng Shui, Philammon, Anet, Chu Jung, Anapel, Hemere, Hukere, Da Yu, Styx, Dreamtime, Kybele, Dijun, Muses, BellBirdBrothers, Endovelicus, Li Ba Bai, Atai, Xiuhtecuhtli, Estasanatlehi, Amalthea, Silvanus, Gucup Cakix, Achelois, Li Er, Neit, Arnakuagsak, Ndo'yet, Okypete, Buku, Untunktahe, Awitelin Tsta, Mwambu, Po, Laertes, Hapakhered, Mamaragan, Huixtocihuatl, Chu Pa Chieh, Ruhanga, Atahensic, Kan Ajana, Yan Luo Wang, Mephitis, Liu Hai, Calliope, Sinaa, Mehen, Ceucy, Gurumukas, T'ao T'ieh, Unktehi, Dylan, Geirskokul, Sandy, Ashtoreth, Kwatee, Ch'uang K'ung, Palee, Huwawa, Onuris, Rig, Baldur, Latinus, Nyikang, Coqui Huani, Harakan, Kanassa, Nun, Orans, Kamonou, Echidna, Hemera, Mamaragan, Han Hsien Tzu, Fotla, Issitoq, Viracocha, Sui Ren, Itzamna, Bon Dieu, Piquete Zina, Basuki, Bellifluficus, Spider Woman, Amun Ra, Illuyankas, Radgrid, Atum, Kek, Christ, Xuan Zang, Wuluwait, Cronus, Borr, Autrimpas, Amesha Spentas, Luk Xing, Month, Porewit, Ga Gaah, Tartaros, Guede, Mani, Ephialtes, Yu Shun, Charites, Ix Chup, Things, Dongo, Metis, Sphinx, Jotunheim, Oreades, Louhi, Ah Tzul, Wandjina, Amn, Zephyros, Chulyen, Mamitu, Tlahuixcalpantec, Moloch, Auster, Suttung, Samanelis, Kumokum, DreamtimeSnake, Snoqalm, Striges, Namorodo, Thanatus, Rosmerta, Lofn, Sothis, Akbul, Rindr, Nereides, Ahuramazda, Taueret, Pichana Gobeche, Menoetius, Leto, Xmulzencab, Alicha, Ploutos, Lu Ban, Ouranos, Xaman Ek, Kerberos, Blodeuedd, Tawhiri Ma Tea, Kherty, Tai Sui Xing, Hsi Ho, Yin, Hero Twins, Hope, Hun Nal Ye, Paiva, Limoniads, Ah Tzenul, Beydo, Ch'u Kiang Wang, Ramakian, Sibilja, Sosom, Kwolam, Khonsu, Jiang Qin Guang, Hodur, Invidia, Demas, Evus, Tuatha De Danann, Mon Moko, Theia, Yambe Akka, Lei Chen Tzu, Varuna, Valkyrja, Ah Puch, Soko, Gede, Mama Oullo, Atum Ra, Andai, Chalchiuhtlicue, Ehi, Athene, Icovellauna, Apollon, Jarilo, Cabracan, Asshur, Cocijo, Ned Er Tcher, Yu Ch'iang, Sha Wu Ching, Legba, Ix Chel, Penie, Poros, Sito, Pan, Annona, Taru, Ahea, Milu, Mimi,

60 hours a week in the office/hospital (many do more than 60 hours). Seeing patients, reviewing charts, making hospital rounds, etc. What about the hours lost in the middle of the night while fielding phone calls that are "free." Talking to other doctors about a complicated case for "free." Calling to see how things are going after surgery...or after a birth. Shall I go on? What will soon happen and is already happening is that young, intelligent people who might have gone into primary care will not. If the government or insurance companies want to save money and that is what they do want, then nurse practitioners and PA's will do the bulk of general medical care in this country. Family docs, pediatricians, even obstetricians will become a thing of the past. I think this will hurt the quality of medical care in this country but the larger question is what do you think? Because it's coming.
