Hello,
Six month ago a non-itchy red rash appeared on my upper body, my upper back, chest and in the last few weeks on the abdomen . It is seen especially after a hot shower. I have tried several therapy options, including antihistaminic pills and anti- fungous shampoo NIZORAL (after wrong diagnosis of Pityriasis versicolor). All treatments was not useful.
I will be happy to hear your opinion about it.
Thank you,
yosi

I have a rash possibly similar to the one that you have. It appeared somewhere between the morning and evening and covered my chest stomach and back. Small red blotches that do not itch. It spread to my inside arms and thighs within 2 days. I went to the doctor and he said it was pityriasis rosea. No known cause. Not contagious. Nothing to do but just wait it out. See link below.

I am not going to worry about it at this point and will wait it out. I guess if one is single and dating, it puts a stop to social life for a while. Good Luck

The link was helpful, it's sometimes difficult to find anyone who has the same problem because the description, if brief, sounds like pilaris keratosis.

Yosi, I have the exact same thing. It appeared slowly out of nowehere about 6 months ago and seems to be getting worse. When in the sun or after sweating or a workout the non-itchy spots glow bright red. They're faded, but noticeable under normal conditions. I've tried antibiotics, biopsy, fungal scrapes, and gone to a dermatologist specialist. The dr. said it was most likely an allergic reaction to something that would fade in time and to stay out of the sun. I'm not buying it!! What is it and how do we get rid of this. It started on the left and right sides of my back and spread to my neck and chest and recently upper stomach.

Anyone have any idea? Susie what did you find out?

I have something similar to what you guys are describing but it does not look the same as the link to pityriasis rosea. It's more of a rash and it's on my stomach, between my breast all the way to my neck and back as well as a bit around my arms. I do have environmental allergies so I'm blaming it on that.... will be seeing a doctor on Tuesday (which I'm sure she will blame it on allergies - easy way to give me an answer and kick me out of her office - it's Canada... 2 minutes is the most doctors will spend with you).

My husband has the exact same thing. He's had it for about two years now and nothing has changed, in fact I think it has spread more over his body. He first had it on the sides of his back and now it is everywhere on the torso and now on his legs. I really have no idea what it is. It cannot possibly be allergies or it would have gone away in two years. help help help!

Still trying to figure this out myself....I'm up to my 3rd dermatologist, one says allergies and is not edp, one says unlikely allergies and still could be EDP (ashy dermatosis) although the symptoms don't correlate to it. The spots glow bright red in the UV light or heat.

I have a similar problem. About a year ago I noticed a small red spot on my chest when I got out of the shower. After a few weeks there were more spots, and now the rash has spread all across my chest, upper arms, back and is starting to appear on my neck and face. The skin is starting to get dry and itchy. My doctor just gave me a steroid cream which didn't help much.

scott, this is EXACTLY what I have, its on the left and right sides of my back (mroe on one side than the other), you don't really notice it, though its still visible, it doesn't really look gross or anything, just like a skin discoloration. its much more obvious when i've been working out or sweating etc

did you ever have any luck with fixing it???

UPDATE (if anyone actually reads this). I think what we've got is a form of tinea! http://knol.google.com/k/failed-to-display-na... #

though mine is more light pink than a white or dark rash

Alex,
The doctors claim that tinea versicolor would and should show up on a fungal scrape and definitely on a biopsy. I have had several fungal scrapes that shoed negative for tinea versicolor as well as a biopsy that showed nothing. I agree with you and have come to the same conclusion that all symptoms point to tinea versicolor. I'm still working on getting this resolved, and my next round of treatment starting in a couple weeks will be antifungal medication even though the scrapes under the microscope do not show traces of this fungus. I'm at a loss!! Ashy dermatosis has been tossed around (aka EDP), but the fact that the sun, heat and sweat make the pigmentation glow bright red really goes against EDP. I'll keep you updated as treatment is done. Please do the same.

Have had the same issue for years. Started taking an Allegra 180mg daily before I shower, and the rash rarely appears -- and on the days it does, it's gone very quickly.

Perhaps an allergy to chemicals in the water? Salts? Chlorine?

more biopsies, but Harry touched on something that may be pointing to a condition called Telangiectasia macularis eruptiva perstans (TMEP). This would make sense why the large doses of the antihistamine allegra would have the affect that it does. I'll update you all when biopsy results come in next week. The first time around the dr. did not test for this on the biopsy.

Is it possible these rashes are caused by candida??? I suffer from candida and just got a rash thats on my legs and arms and feet. Try eating healthy for a couple weeks, cut out sugar and carbs of all kinds. I bet ull notice a difference.

Wow.

Here's me thinking I had something serious. So glad I googled "Non itchy upper body spots".

I'm 41 years old and never had anything like this before. Non itchy red spots of varying sizes on my upper body, very noticeable after showering or sunbathing.

Hope all you other guys get fixed, I'll book mark this page as it takes me 3 weeks to see a doctor.

Best of luck,

Eric.

I talked to a doctor at the hospital i work at He suggests in trying different shampoos and washing detergents. I was buying the cheap stuff hopefully this will help. Sometimes changing soaps and detergents often is believed to cause the problem.

I'm 24 and recently noticed a few pink/red spots on my stomach. Since then they have spread all over my stomach and on to my back. In the last few days they have not spread much, but they do appear to be becoming more blotchy rather than individual spots. Other than looking terrible they do not bother me. They are not contagious, since my girlfriend hasn't had any show up. It may be from detergent, but unlikely since it was the same I used once before. Also, if it were a detergent or something from my clothes, why would it only appear on my stomach, chest, and back, when my clothes touch my entire body and rub certain areas more than others? Thinking it may be some food allergy suddenly emerging (these can develop with age I suppose), but I have not isolated the cause. Perhaps cottage cheese? I ate a bunch prior to the rash showing up, but it would be very odd since I've had cottage cheese several times in the recent past. I don't know if I should bother with the Doc yet since it is not itchy or painful. Thanks for all the info folks!

Andy, you should see a dermatologist. He'll probably take a biopsy, make sure he tests for TMEP. Thats the diagnosis I got and am being treated with antihistamines for now. I had the exact same symptoms as you in the beginning and it gradually gets worse if left untreated. You may not have the same thing as me, but don't ignore it. Hope this helps. Its not contagious and doesnt itch. It took 5 doctors to get me a diagnosis.
