and no we don't have medicaid. They ought to have clinics where you can get dental work done on your income.

I think there needs to be more gov't money put into the dental and medical clinics that used to exist in the 3 neighborhood centers before Community Health Net left them all hangin' with their bankruptcy in 2004. The main reason that C.H. Net is a Federally Qualified Health Clinic was because they had a presence in low income neighborhoods. After their bankruptcy, they pulled out of the centers and thus, the low income areas. Their F.Q.H.C. status should have been revoked!

Medicaid dentists should quit! You only get paid at most 25 cents on the dollar, up to 50% of the patients dont show up to their appointments. You have a higher amount of frivilous lawsuits from medicaid patients and you face felonies for making a single paper billing error even if it was done by a staff member.....If you want medicaid dentists so bad go to school yourself it only takes 8 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars for tuition. Then and only then tell me that dentists should take medicaid and medicare! If you smoke..quit and pay for your dental bills....if you drink pop...quit and you wont have dental problems...how about walking or riding a bike instead of driving you SUV....and finally how about this.....FLOSS!!!!! You are not entitled to dental care! You caused your own dental problems and now you want dentists to do it for free.?

Again neither of us have benefits at our jobs but we both have to work to make ends meet. I have no problem at all being insured by the medicaid program as long as i know we are getting the care we need when we need it and this program is out there to help people like us..why wouldnt we use it? FYI only my children have dental insurance my hubby and i pay for what we need done. But we do have medical insurance from the medicaid program...so in your logic it would be our fault that we got sick or injured or need medical care too? give me a break

Clearly, the solution is to create subsididies for Dental School tuition assistance. And if the Dental STudent signs a paper to go into Medicade/Medicair dentist office, then their tuition is waved.
Furthermore, the Dental School Standards should be lowered or at leased eased for minority students whom sign the same paper, so that the minority community (people of color) can have the same access to the same quality affordable dental care as the rest of the normal people do.
If we join together in this initiative, we can truly make a difference in so many lives for the working poor, the elderly, the children and all the others who so rich deserve it.

Lower the standards for minority, are you suggesting that minorities are not capable of doing the same level of work as non minorities? You might be okay with having someone with lower standards working on you or your family but I would not. How about educating the minorities. It makes me ill to hear people like you say let's lower the standards, if they can't do the work maybe they should study more. There are standards for a reason and if one cannot meet them, then they should seek employment in another field.

What a joke, let's lower our standards by giving the kids the answers to the test so they can pass, sounds like what our schools do to pass the PSSAs, Good land no wonder this country is in trouble, too much laziness, too many handouts.

You people don't even know your being racist when you say "educate the minorities." We ARE educated, just i'm saying if the standards are impossibly high (not to mention the tuition bills!) for an average normal minority man or woman, then those standards need to be lowered. It's not a matter of "can't do the work" it's a matter of fairness and equal opportunity under tha law! Or would you rather see children of color go to bed at night with their teeth rotting out of their heads because Mr. Rich White Dentist refuses to even treat them just because they can't pay his excessive fees?? THAT is the very definition of racism, my friend. Peace be unto you.

I think we ought just give everyone in the projects free health care and be done with it. Then they can go to whatever dentist they want. The "rich white dentist" can't turn them away if they have government insurance! It's really a very simple solution.

Paying for tution is one subject, lowering standards are another. I think it is RACIST to say the minorities can't do the work because the standards are TOO high. Like they don't have the compacity to learn as others do. That's crap!!!! I work with many minorities who are professionals, very good at what they do. No one had to lower the standards for them! and they are successful. I'm a female in a male dominated field, no one lower the standards for me. It was touch but knowing I did like anyone else is worth more than anything else. I did this while caring for two small children, no child support, I worked and went to school. The standards are for EVERYONE, not just a few.

No wonder you're teeth are rotten by the time they finally give you an appt. wow you are soo smart! you seem to know everything about everyone. but listen here. we dont ALL have rotten teeth and cancel appointments. i bet my teeth are in better condition than yours, if you have any, and i Never cancel appts. who are you to judge?

@ RTP. I work two jobs, my wife works about 60 hours a week. We have 3 children and none of the jobs we have in our area provide insurance. I own my home, no payments, I have paid off both my cars. You know what fella? The insurance provided for children by the State of PA is not just for "People too lazy to work". It is for those of us who are working our tails off yet cannot get affordable dental insurance for our children. why don't you jump off your high horse for a few seconds and stop being the type of aggressive jerk that has made this situation what it is.
I personally think we should be allowed to sue for discrimination. We have insurance through the state, but cannot use it due to profit margins and slow government red tape. I think the dentists be fined for refusing treatment.

y0homba: here's an idea, instead of suing a dentist who apparently has worked harder than you have either in school or on his/her career, why don't you find some insurance that you can pay for instead of sucking off the taxpayers? why should everyone else have to PAY for YOUR children to have coverage? we didn't tell you to have kids, or to have jobs that don't provide coverage. it is really your problem, yet we have to pay for it. and you want to REQUIRE dentists who made smarter choices than you have to work on your children for a fraction of what they could make working on other kids? that is a load of bull. what you have is not insurance, it is basically WELFARE for people who make choices as sorry as yours. you might work 60 hours a week, but it doesn't do much good if you have 3 kids to support. again, YOUR bad choices. I mean if you have no house payment and no car payment then why are the rest of us paying for your mistakes?! p.s. not choosing to work for LOWER PAY is not discrimination. clearly you should've gotten more education. but I'm sure you would love to sue, anything to get more money off of someone else who earned it.

this has nothing to do with compassion.......you could be the most compassionate person but everything has a limit.......i wonder why people are not mad at the horrible medicaid offices and customer service representatives who always find an excuse no to pay the correct amount to the dentist......I mean its bad enough that the fees are ridiculously low but also I have to be on the phone for hours trying to collect payment??? do you think that is fair to the dentist?? one time we got a check for 20 cents??? 20 cents?? it costed more for them to mail that check to us.....i mean if you have to be mad a somebody be mad at your govement officials who are making thousand of dollars a year and still can't come up with a compromising way of helping the community and at the same time take care of the physician who is helping you.....im all for helpig the community but until the govenment find a way to fairly reinburst the dentists its only going to get more difficult to find a medicaid dentist...... if you do your research the overhead for a dentist is one of the highest there is....... if anyone needs to be ashames i say "shame on you medicaid" for not being able to come up with a better way to help the community+ -

Well the way of the world is now that you don't get the benefits working that you did years ago. Most people pay a big chunk of their pay checks to dental and health insurance, while our politians get full benefits for a part time job and hundreds of thousand's of dollars a year, that the taxpayers pay. That isn't fair that we are footing the bill for them and their families, they are just in it for the money and not do anything to change anything.
