I have had this problem since i can remember. And just recently i am curious at what causes it and how i can prevent it. I had it looked it long time ago and doctor said it was nothing big, just something i am going to have to deal with...anyway here is what happens:

it seems to happen during physical activity particular quick movements such as a jump or take off of running. but all of a sudden my heart starts beating REALLY fast prolly twice as fast and i immediately become light headed, break out into cold sweats, and a weird feeling comes over me. if i stop what i was doing immediately and lay down it seems to go away quicker. it goes away as fast as it comes. ill be laying down with it beating really fast and then it stops and i immediately feel really good. i can get back up and go back to what i was doing perfectly fine.

from what i can tell it seems to happen when i haven't eaten regularly or when i am dehydrated. it happens like maybe 4-6 times a year but its really uncomfortable and sometimes i feel my heart skip a beat like its about to do it, but it doesn't.

...and its not like i am overweight or anything. im 5'9" 160lbs and work out 4-5 times a week. i can run really well and bench around 250lbs. its just annoying when it happens because its usually in middle of a basketball game or something. i am also on some supplements which may not be helping the situation:

protein powder, creatine, basic cuts, and universal animal pak

My friend has the same thing,
when it happens, He said Hold your breath and push from your diaphragm like you do when you sit down at the toilet, push real hard.

Don't know if it will work for you but I know it works when he does it every time he has an attack, keep calm.

I know creatine is illegal in UK, so I would stop that for sure you may find that was the starting of the attack as hormone changes through the nervous system can causes fast heart rates. hope it helps

let me know if it works for you next time

also his heart starts beating super fast
then when it goes away, it goes away fast. just slows back to normal speed like nothing happened, after finding info from other sites this was the one that worked also a cold towel on the head or back of the neck where all the nerves are was another tip but the squeezing of the diaphragm worked 1st time and has work since.

Hi,

I'm a 37 year old and I've always had these weird episodes, I use to get them like 4 to 5 times a year and now I'm getting them more often...

Well what happens to me is, if I suddenly got down to pick up something or laugh to hard, it hits me and they use to last 1 to 3 min. now they las 2 to 3 hours
I get scared, I'm morbidly obese but I had these
episodes before even being this big...

I once went to the ER and they did a EKG and they found everthing normal, I was so darn mad! all they said was to Push down as if going to the bathroom and they would go away...I just thought that was silly!
Now I'm getting them more often, I get them when
I'm not even doing nothing now!

Help! if there's anyone out there like me
please give me some info?

oh by the way...after these attacks hit me
when my heart goes back to normal I feel
as if I've ran a marathon my heart feels tired
and my throught feels weird?

anyway if anyone reads me please get back?

Thanks.
REBECCA.

Hi, Everyone!

I'm back... Well I'm still
getting those palpitations
but I think I figured it out!

I think I might have developed
diabetes and that's a sign of
high sugar levels, I think thats
what might be causing them to trigger
but if anyone has a better info...please
don't hesistate to inform me Thanks.

Another thing I wanted to ask here...

If anyone knows a way to get approved
for gastic bypass, I don't have insurance
and I'm willing to change the way I live
I'm willing to go drasticly, to loose
this weight!
PLease if anyone knows of
a special place to get this
procedure done when you have
no insurance and no money :(

Thank You Again!

When they are giving you an EKG, they are generally checking you aren't having/in danger of a myocardial infarct. They are not diagnosing most of the the risk factors due to you being morbidly obese.

Seriously, you need to eat less, exersise more. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

Doctors will keep telling you that message until you die from the obesity. Surgery is only going to try to fool your brain. You need re-education.

Please don't die.

I do the same thing, but mine starts when I bend down to pick something up the wrong way, or when I over exert myself. I am female, 125 pounds, and five nine, and have had it since I could remember. I usually lay down and take deep breaths until it goes away but it is really annoying. My heart just decides it get off rhythem and speed up, and when it is ready it jumps back into rhythem, and then I feel fine. It is very strange all of the women in my family do it, and the doctors say our hearts are fine.

Man this really sucks because I box and when I get hit at times on the chest it just rises dramaticly and I gotta stop sparring. My heart starts beating about or almost or about 200 beats per min. This has been happing since I can remember(junior high) never gotten it chcked, but it is scarry I'm only 27 and I feel that it can cause a heart failure one of these days.what is it? I read all these other thing and it only seems that the docs only give you meds that don't even work because most people say that it still happens, anybody with any info please give some!

I have been searching for someone who has the same exact symptoms as me, and I've finally found you. I couldn't describe what happends to me any differently. I'm 16, 150 pounds, and I've probably been having these heart episodes since I was 13.

It usually happends when I suddenly "jerk" my body, or come down and hit the ground from a jump or something. Some examples: Skateboaring - Landing after a trick and suck. Tennis - The serve, if I do it too hard it can trigger this.

As you said it happends instantly and goes away instantly. Literally, INSTANTLY, it's like the next heat beat it's back to normal... it's not a gradual decent. If I keep doing what i'm doing it really doesnt go away, however when I sit down and breathe calmly it goes away within 20ish seconds.

You may not understand what i'm about to say unless you have exactly what I have, or even if you do you may still not understand it, but it's almost like I can feel that its going to happen when I start doing an activity. Like my heart will just start feeling odd, but when I put my hand over it, it's beating normally... but it just feels weird against my chest. And sure enough when I "jerk" my body it starts up. It almost makes you just want to cough as a comfort thing for me.. but it really doesn't do anything.

I've had my heart looked at through the little monitor thing and such and they say its perfect. Please get back to me and tell me if you can relate to what i've just wrote :)... thanks.

Hi, I am a 60 year old male, ex college basketball player and I have exercised my entire life. I am 6'4" and weigh 180 lbs. I currently run 5k's and half marathons with my two daughters. I have had the skipped heart beats and rapid heart beats. To get rid of the skipped heart beats, I started taking a daily vitamin that had magnesium and manganese. I reduced the amount of daily caffeine intake by only having coffee in the morning and making my own decaf tea. I cut out chocolate milk as a run recovery drink and eat less chocolate candy. This took about 3 weeks. I was getting skipped beats often, but now I cannot remember the last time. I get a physical every year and was told 2 years ago that I had an EKG of an 18 year old. I wear a heart rate monitor on all of my runs to monitor the correct training zones. I know that for my age, my maximum heart rate is 185(like a full sprint). Recently on a 5 mile run, I could feel my heart rate get rapid. It went from an easy run rate of 130 to 182 in seconds. I started walking while watching my monitor. Within a few minutes, it dropped back to 130. I started back to running the remaining mile home with no problem. There is no pain when this happens at all. I have had the same thing happen when playing senior basketball, maybe after a sudden movement. I am wondering if there is something else in my diet that I need to address. Hope this helps others and I am open to any suggestions.

It's interesting that no one knows what the cause if this is. I've all had the same problem since I was little. It used to only happen a few times a year when I was exercising. Now, I'm 27, it seems to happen if I breath in to quickly or really fast, about one every 1-2 weeks.

I've learned the lying down on my stomach and breathing long breaths helps it go away quicker.

But these episodes are scary and I'd also like to find out a cause and cure for them. They have gotten me so wound up lately, that sometimes right as I fall asleep, I have a quick dream that it is happening, and I wake myself up so I don't have to go through it. I can't help to thunk what if this is the time it doesn't stop beating double time and I have a heart attack or something.

I guess it's just something I have to learn to live with though. Because once the episode is over, I have no troubles continuing what I was doing. An I am also going to try the pressing on my diaphragm thing.

i have been trying to find someone/ANYONE with the same problem.. mine actually just happened about 30 minutes ago and lasted for over an hour- i almost called the ambulance, usually it only lasts about 10-15 min.. these episodes are extremely scary. i am 24 years old 5'11 160lbs.. i am very active and eat pretty healthy. this has been happening for as long as i can remember. it usually happens with sudden movements, bending over, a quick gasp for breath, or excitement.. it's like your heart took oxygen is the wrong way and it just throws it off beat. it happens instantly like all of you said.. it's like it shifts out of gear and goes into overdrive.. and you havent really even done anything! i become extremely light headed/to where i want to pass out. but then it'll just kick back into the right gear in a split second and then you are completely fine again. what do you do when it happens? i find sitting with your head between your leg and taking deep breaths usually works. i have been to the doctor they did this scan on my chest and said everything was okay... they said that you have to go in while it is happening? has anyone been in the ER while it was actually happening? i hope they can get rid of this because it really does take over your life. i hold back on a lot of things, i used to be so into sports, i am scared that it is going to happen in the middle of a sport. ive had to stop workouts.. again.. i am active, healthy.. i dont know why this is doing this. but it's scary and i also wonder if this is life threatening?

this is SO scary and no body understands but you guys!

I know exactly how you all feel...its like If I move too fast or get up too fast this happens and I get really dizzy and have to lay down. It used to last just a few seconds but lately it has been getting longer, and I don't know how to make it stop. I have two small children and I'm so afraid something is going to happen to me. I'm thinking about going to the doctor because it has been happening a lot lately and I feel like I cant function while its happening. If anyone has any advice on how to make it stop sooner please let me know. I'm relieved just to know I'm not the only one.
