I got diagnosed with an inactive thyroid last week. Like most of u my hair is falling out and it really stresses and depresses me. I had the thickest most beautiful hair and now it's half what it was :( I've started oroxine but I feel like something is just not right. My doctor didn't even explain what I had or the medication. I'm thinking of going to see a naturopath.. What do u think???
Desperate for help!
I know this is a very late reply to your post, but only just found this site. Hopefully I can help some other people anyway.
I was diagnosed with a slightly underactive thyroid six years ago. I was put on 50mcg daily of Levothyroxine. I only found out my thyroid was inactive as I had started to shed hair, so a blood test ensued and the rest is history.

Six years down the line, about 5 months ago, I had a routine blood test which showed my thyroid was more underactive. The doctor instantly doubled my dose of Levothyroxine. I was now on 100mcg daily. By 3 months of taking it my hair had started to fall out again. I've gone from having really thick hair to really noticing the difference. I have done so much reading on the subject that it has become apparent to me that the increase of the Levothyroxine is what has sent me over the edge. My body obviously can't take it.
I revisited my doctor, who was less than sympathetic, and basically tried to convince me that it will settle down and I shouldn't stress over it. How can you not stress over it when you're pulling clumps of your own hair out of the shower?
I've begun to dread, absolutely dread, washing my hair :(
This was not going to settle down. The hair was literally dropping off me. Anyway the doctor has reduced my Levothyroxine to 75mcg daily, and I shall be going back in 6 weeks to see how the old levels are doing.

I'm writing on here to tell you all that there is hope. Do your research...Don't believe everything your doctor tells you. They're not all clued up on this. We're all different and what works for one won't work for another.
I have decided to tackle this head on (pardon the pun)

I found that Pantene shampoo burned my head and my scalp felt like I had been out in the sun for days, so now I use baby shampoo, or L'oreal Elvive replenishing shampoo is excellent and my hair feels much thicker when I use it. I use Johnsons baby conditioner, only on the tips of the hair. I've read that you shouldn't be massaging it into the scalp. I have also started taking evening primrose oil capsules, one a day, because I have read in many places that these can be taken safely with Levothyroxine, and people who take them have found that their hair grows back....Yipee :)

I take the Levothyroxine in the morning and evening primrose oil in the afternoon. It may be my imagination, but the hair feels thicker already, just by doing these few things.
Hope this helps x

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 6 years ago, I took every levothyroxine there was on the market even Synthroid.

After going to this site called stopthetyroidmadness.com I decided to fire my Endo in Guatemala and went on line to find out why my hair line was disappearing and my hair loss kept going even after radical diet changes.

Synthroid it is for me a toxin. Nothing worked while I was on that drug. I was overweight and no hair.
For detox from this poison in my body I had to go to extremes and I did.
I bought a bottle of Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) from Jimhumble.biz and took it for three weeks and detox myself from this drug.
My hair stopped falling thank God. And then I went looking for porcine desiccated hormone replacement either Armour, Naturethroid, Westroid, Erfa or the Thailand counterparts which are Thyroid-s or Thyroid to use as a replacement hormonal therapy.

To all who really wants to be helped, I wasn't only loosing my hair on this Synthroid drug, I became asthmatic and had a lung fungus called aspergillus at 41 years old.

This drug was killing me.

Please call your doctors and have them prescribe you a natural hormonal replacement like porcine desiccated hormone.
Because nothing will make you healthy until you stop using synthetic drugs in your bodies. I am not made of plastic so why are they poisoning us with synthetic drugs?

I am not a spammer this my real story and I am sure I would not want anyone, not even my worst enemy to go thru what I did.

One more time, STOP taking levothyroxine, which it is synthetic drug and a poison.

Find a natural hormonal replacement asap, this will change your life forever.

This synthetic drugs in the market are damaging your body.

I was having severe medical problems with reduced thyroid production and, among other icky side-effects (like gaining weight)*my hair was falling out.* In the shower, when i combed it--constantly falling out. My pony-tail was dying slowly and my self-esteem was also going down the drain.

I needed big-time help, and I had heard the name "Shielo" but that's all I knew. So I scheduled a consultation at a high end salon, showed them what was going on, and they sent me straight to the beauty supply shop for Shielo's Volume Shampoo and Volume Conditioner. They explained that Shielo exfoliates your scalp and allows new hair to grow in, and they said I should definitely try it. I was still a little nervous, but the people at the supply shop were SO SURE that this could help me--from their own personal experience to what they had learned at workshops, etc.

All true. They said to give it up to 7-8 weeks and not give up.
Six months later I went back to the salon and the people who had seen my "before" hair said, quote, "Whatever you've been doing to your hair, DON'T STOP." They showed me all the new growth I had all over my head, and places where my hair had been flat and now was filling in. My hair is soft, healthy, and i feel proud of it again. Try Shielo. It will help you. Once you understand how it works, it just makes sense. And I've never written one of these review-type-things in my life--so you know I'm serious!

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
