Thousands Line Up for Promise of Free Health Care

Full story: www.nytimes.com

The enormous response to the free care was a stark corollary to the hundreds of Americans who have filled town-hall-style meetings throughout the country, angrily expressing their fear of the Obama administration’s proposed changes to the nation’s health care system. The bleachers of patients also reflected the state’s high unemployment, recent reduction in its Medicaid services for the poor and high deductibles and co-payments that have come to define many employer-sponsored insurance programs.

Typical whiny liberal piece from the New York Times. Tug at the heartstrings instead of maturely discussing solutions.

We don't have to dismantle a functioning healthcare system that the vast majority of Americans like in order to cover a small percentage who don't have coverage.

If you have health insurance or if you pay your medical bills out of pocket, you are covering the unpaid costs of the un-insured when they can't attend free clinics. This would not be a problem if there were only a few of them. It's not a "vast majority" any more and it's not a "small percentage".

Better wake up. Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan is losing Money because they are forced to accept any applicant under.

Since their employers are cutting benefits to stay afloat which dumps people into the public BC/BS option, they are adding the most frequent, most sick users, and Unemployment is skyrocketing, The Insurance Corp is losing money BUT THEY ARE RAISING RATES ACROSS THE BOARD so this is essentially a TAX INCREASE to pay for other peoples problems.

When roughly 10% of the LEGAL population has little or no health insurance, that's a "small percentage". That leaves 90% which is a "vast majority". So says the Census Bureau. Sorry, but their numbers trump your opinion.

I'm sorry did any of these staged events ask for some contributions from these patients?

Did they ask to see if these "thousands of people" were legal residents...cuz you know (wink, wink)No illegal residents are allowed to participate in ObamaCare...oh yeah!

Obama talking at a town hall...and sure enough....someone who works at a pediatric clinic asked a question and what did Obama say...."that's a good question"....and then started talking about medicare and medicaid!!!!

Technique: say it's a good question, or I agree with you and THEN START TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE>>>his talking points.

The final answer everybody on FEDERAL EMPLOYEE HEALTHCARE....EVERYBODY!!!!

A mature discussion? You mean lies about death panels and euthanasia???

Small minority uninsured...? Try about one in seven people. 50 MILLION.

If you are going to make statements, it helps if you check your facts before making inaccurate and simply preposterous assertions.

You are selling snake oil again.

Checked three articles about the rate increases and NONE of them mentioned any requirement to insure everyone - and the rate increases are different for individual policy holders and for groups.

Unrelated to any national plan.

Your personal animus toward the President is showing again. You really should seek therapy.

Over 40 million out of 300 million people without health insurance AND even with the ones that do have health insurance -- with lifetime cap limits -- they can easily find themselves without insurance during a major health emergency. Many people are complaining that Obama's plan will put restrictions on health care -- they argue this in a fashion like the health insurance companies DO NOT have restrictions and limitations.

You're right, it does help to check your facts.

According to the Census Bureau at least half of the "50 MILLION" are illegal, um, "undocumented workers" and people who CHOOSE not to carry HC insurance.

Maybe you shouldn't get your "facts" from Moore's "Sicko" or the Daily Kos.

I apologize up front from cross posting this article. This is the second thread I've posted it to and I don't usually do that.

This is a recent study published in the American Medical Journal showing that over 60% of U.S. bankruptcies in 2007 were due directly to medical costs (over double the percentage in 2001). And furthermore, 75% of those that went bankrupt due to medical causes had medical insurance.

http://www.pnhp.org/new_bankruptcy_study/Bank...

On the surface, we should do something about it. Or we could wait until it's 80% or 90% of bankruptcies. At this rate that should be the case right around 2012.

Actually, the "facts" have been so manipulated that it is difficult to determine how many people are un-insured. Allow me to explain -- very recently (the last few years) many insurance companies have been offering "low cost" ($20-$60) a month "health insurance" to low income families. So my question -- are these people "counted" as having health insurance -- because if they are, it is a joke -- that type of "health insurance" is nothing more than a coupon book for small discounts -- it covers almost nothing. I pay over $900.00 a month for my family's health insurance -- it's rather good insurance. I qualify myself as insured -- but for those families buying the "low cost" plans -- they are NOT. These "low cost" plans are just a "dog and pony Show" by the insurance industry in an attempt to articifically lower how many people are count as "uninsured".

You folks are taking this whole thing out of context. Many physicians and dentists provide free treatment, that is what volunteerism is all about. That is what this article should have been about also, not the political bull.
We've done this for years in the medical profession, it just makes the spotlight now because of healthcare reform bills. And before a knee jerk response kicks in, yes I am in the medical profession and have provided free services like that for 20 years. It's called "giving back". Just like when you give money to your church and they provides help for the poor.

Lance,

35 million uninsured (which include illegal immigrants which Obama ASSURES us won't be covered Obamacare)

240+MILLION that HAVE insurance.

WE WANT FEDERAL EMPLOYEE INSURANCE...I want that for you, Lance and for everybody. All of us on FEDERAL EMPLOYEE INSURANCE...not ObamaCare or Repubcare....don't fall for it.

Surprised that the unions don't want the same insurance as FEDERAL EMPLOYEES...it's great...union rank and file...start screaming...you do not want those other healthcare programs you and everybody else need the same insurance as FEDERAL EMPLOYEES!!!!

Start talking to your reps....demand FEDERAL EMPLOYEE INSURANCE...you have the numbers and the power...speak up and demand FEDERAL EMPLOYEE INSURANCE...don't settle for ObamaCare (without taxing) it's NOT as good as FEDERAL EMPLOYEE INSURANCE!!

That's the ticket!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32302292/ns/healt...

probably around 35Million while 240 MILLION have insurance....but the answer is everybody goes on the same policies as Federal Employees...

ALL OF US FEDERAL EMPLOYEES INSURANCE....they have it and WE, the masses, the little people, the peons, the unwashed...SHOULD HAVE THE SAME INSURANCE....don't settle for either parties insurance...DEMAND FEDERAL EMPLOYEE INSURANCE!!!!

Hell, we're already paying for it...we all might as well go on it!@!!#%@$^#&#%&#
