It was a citrus flavored drink that I think Royal Crown Cola produced. I don't recall it anywhere outside of Louisville during my childhood. It was a real treat to have a Wink with my White Castles when I visited my grandparents as a child. They bought them in the large glass bottles at Kroger. Anyone else recall that? I am down here in GA, some food we can get down here is White Castle, Pickle Bologna, Melo Yellow, Ski, Double Cola, the white Brats they sell at the festivals, But Big Red made it here about 10 years ago. I am going to the Fountaine Ferry exhibit when I come back up this summer. We should get a gang to go together.

Sambos didn't last very long on dixie and it was if my mind remembers right one Dixie where Applebees is now between Gagle and Rockford Lane. The Donldson Bakery was on Hill street where the Evans Furniture warehouse was until a few years ago. Close to the projects there. They had home delivery in dark green and yellow panel trucks. He would come into the house with one of the little baskets like they use for small items at the stores now. His would be full of items..bread, cupcakes, rolls...ect..The big pack of cinamon rolls came six to a pack and they where about 5 to 6 inchs round with carmal icing and chopped nuts all over the top, they were to die for..and the cho cupcakes were awsome. Then on another day of the week along would come the Charlies Chip man with big ole 5 gallon tin of potato chips..we were in heaven. The Jewel Tea man was fun to see but he didn't have the good stuff we kids wanted. He carried a lot of dishes though. I loved the old days...even without my computer it was better....lol

I remember when Masterson's started out on Third Street and the Duck Inn was a stone's throw away. Two very different places.

I don't remember Duck Inn but I started going to Masterson's as a teenager and love going there for lunch in the 70's. I hated when it closed. Sad to see things family owned close.

I am not from Louisville, and didn't grow up there in the 60's and 70's. But i know someone who did.Her name is Juanita Jane Bray. I knew her when I was 15-16 years old. She was a yr. younger than me.I am now 55.I would love to get in touch with her. W e were really good friends. She had a brother whose name was Billy. If anyone knows her or where she is,let me know please. Or at least tell her that Kaye, whom she knew in 68,69,70, would like to talk with her. I think she had a cousin whos name is Joe Caldwell or something to that effect. I would appreciate any info on Juanita.

Does anyone remember Chef House and Shively Records in Bacon's Shopping Center on Dixie Hwy? Also, a restarant next to Masterson's - Ireland's and Luau Room at the airport? What about the Essex House on Gardiner Lane...it burned down and became Darrell's. Essex House had a piano bar and a supper club with a really good trio. Are there any of the old Essex House gang out there? btw...in answer to the post which was on here back in May or June, I knew the owner of Champs and he stayed open until a few years ago. Champs was closed due to too many fights then opened back up a couple of years ago just as Skating Rink.

Shively records moved down Dixie to the shopping center were the old Zayers Dept Store was. It was never the same after that. I ate a Chef House a lot because it was the only place around there when I worked in the Beauty Shop at Bacons. I really miss Bacons. I also loved Southland Terr and the shop there called "Poise and Ivy", it was the in place to shop in the 60's in that end of town. First place I every bought EA things. Life was so much less complicated then.

"EA things"? Evening attire? I'm not sure what you mean, Blondetime. Sorry I'm a bit ignorant what EA is, but I am curious. Thanks! I definitely like the name of the store; I just don't remember it. Fresnel

EA: Etienne Aigner! I guess that could be it, Pine! Thanks! Of course I was not aware of many brands during the 60s outside of Buster Brown, Red Ball Jets, Tonka, Mattel, and Parker Brothers.:>) Frankly, I didn't know of any Aigner products until the mid 70s when a few teachers in my school bought Aigner purses, shoes, and the occasional leather coat. That screamed "status" in our rural community back then.
