Lisa Marie Presley Gets Mixed Reviews

May 19, 2012 Full story: WebProNews 63

Of course, she hasn't always chosen the most low-key ways to go about things; in 1994 she married Michael Jackson, perhaps the only other man in the world as famous as her father.

Just goes to prove that having had a famous, talented father and husband doesn't always get the same accolades as what they had.

Maybe if LMP handed over her song writing ability to a more talented singer, she would have more luck in delivering her stuff successfully.

Michael Jackson is more famous than Elvis for me. LMP made a smart move when she married him. Lucky woman.

Lisa Marie didn't move much on American Idol.

She did sing well and her band was cool.

Her performance was pretty, kind of witchy.

Not every female singer has to be a dancing bimbo.

I love her new album.

LMP did deliver her album very successfully as it was released.

I'm listening to the album and it's by far, her best album yet.

The album is obviously not about Michael Jackson as I hear it...

You seem to want to take unfair shots at her singing style, right?

She made a rootsy throw back CD that would fit in "Pulp Fiction"

It has nothing to do with the flooded marketplace of pop bimbos.

It's a very moody adult recording made by someone in her mid 40's.

With two gold albums under her belt, maybe this one will go gold.

Why all the jealous remarks?

Do you have a record contract and get to be a musical guest on AI?

Elvis's legacy is doing just fine. Saw it first hand in Memphis.

She should ignore the critics.

One should never ignore critique as there is always room for improvement.

I like Her new album -She gets really good reviews or so so , kinda depends on how listener likes her voice. She hasnt got voice like her father and cant dance like MJ but she does have a story to tell.

All critics do is give their personal opinions on an artists work.

It doesn't always mean that they are right.

I've heard or seen many aclaimed recordings and films...

And thought they were horrible.

Critics tend to like movies that are sappy or depressing.

Films that win awards but no one wants to see.

"Crying Game" was a perfect example of a critically aclaimed film.

Yet it a lightweight comedy like "Tommy Boy" gets crappy reviews.

But it was funny so people went to see it nevertheless.

It's like comparing a band like Journey to REM.

Critics always ignored arena rock in favor of bands like Nirvana.

Anyway, LMP's new CD is what it is.

She made it for people who might enjoy it, not for critics to like.

I make up my own mind on what I think is good, right?

I don't exactly listen to what someone else tells me.

I think LMP has a unusual voice. Some like it, some don't...

It's like that with anything because everyone has different taste.

Michael Jackson was a brilliant singer and delivered his stories well. His dance was just a visual bonus. Listening to his music is up lifting.

Singing is not just about the voice, it's about the way it's delivered. Bob Dylan has a crap voice but has managed to deliver his stories well. LMP lacks the passion that so many successful artists convey. I think LMP is in the industry to heal the wounds her father left her.

MJ was a brilliant story teller and knew how to deliver them. Singing is not just about having a good voice, it's the way to tell the story. He certainly did that brilliantly and that's what was that made him so popular.

I disagree.

LMP has a lot of passion on her new CD.

But you won't listen to it because you have a bias towards her.

It's like criticizing something without hearing it first.

LMP's first CD was in 2003.

What wounds did her father leave her?

He died in 1977 and Lisa started a singing career 9 years ago.

Lisa Marie obviously wants to be an artist.

Her voice is different but the new album does show progress.

I like Bob Dylan's classic sixties material the best.

He broke the mold when it came to singers with rough voices.

He made it possible for artists to explore their music differently.

It worked well in Dylan's case because he wrote great lyrics.

It changed the musical landscape in the sixties.

The Beatles were even affected by Dylan and their music progressed.

I am glad to hear that LMP is progressing for you, after 9 years of singing. If she sang opera then she would improve but pop/rock/whatever, I don't think so.

He was a great blue grass song writer. Great lyrics compensate for a bad voice. What compensations does LMP have, other than a famous father and ex husband?

Elvis left the poor LMP with a lot of baggage which she has desperately trying to shake off for most of her life. I truly hope that she gets over it in her lifetime.
