I think we should push this--if choices are not protected, then neither marriage nor religion can be protected. We cab immediat3ely start taxing churches, and denying hetero couples marriage if they don't meet our standards. See how long it takes for them to change their minds. It is a choice, don't like the ramifications that come with those decisions, then make better choices. It's clear you haven't thought through the ramifications of your own position. Maybe you need to make some better choices or you might (no -- will!) find yourself the target of the position you are promoting here. Claiming basic human rights don't cover differences based on choice shows you don't understand what freedom is. Having only one "acceptable" and legal choice is what repressive communist societies were built on. It's the antithesis of a democratic society.

While I am no scientist, I do feel that humans are at the top of the evolutionary ladder and having said that, that makes us the smartest beings on the planet, thus knowing the difference between right and wrong. Again, being gay is a conscious choice. Not a civil right. Let's try this again...are you under the impression that the hundreds of millions of homosexuals around the world are keeping "the day I made the choice" thing a secret?

The Pope is right to denounce gay marriage and it is so sad that every other christian group is not doing the same if you read the same bible you know it is wrong.

Where in your bible does it say "man shall not marry man, nor shall woman marry woman". And please note, I am talking about marry, not "lay with". Robert

You cn have an opinion on philosophical ideas. You don't get to have opinions on facts. My opinion might be that pi is 5.7, but that would be wrong. Not one gay person, including myself, ever chose to be gay. That's not an opinion; that is a fact. Research has not been able to prove conclusively what determines orientation, but they have been able to weed out some theories--and choice was one of the first to go, along with domineering women and distant fathers. Choices can be protected by civil rights, such as religion. Many residents of states disagreed with desegregation, but the RIGHTS of the affected overruled the desires of the hoi polloi. <quoted text> I don't think poster is being mean, at least I hope not, but he sorely lacks education regarding homosexuality. He should realize the entire medical world would not agree with him, nor would any researchers. Homosexuality is definitely not a choice. It's a fact of life and in the future, when more and more people become better educated, they'll realize that. Some people like this poster may not like it, but nobody's asking him to.

Silvercoastcorks wrote: <quoted text> No. Again, it is a conscious choice. Okay, so you agree that gays and lesbians are not keeping this "choice" business a secret. That's odd, because I never hear about the "choice." So, can you point me to some studies that show the average age people "choose" to be homosexual? Can you point me to some studies or interviews where people discuss the pros and cons of heterosexuality versus homosexuality before they made the "choice" to be homosexual? Can you point me to some memoirs from homosexuals that detail the day they made the big gay "choice"? We'll wait.

But you can choose who you are attracted to and who you are not attracted to. Again, you have the privledge to choose to be gay if you like. However, a vast majority of Americans disagree with same sex marriage. 31 states voted no and 19 voted yes. 4 million out of 330+million people in America are gay. 1.1% of the US population. So the majority is to give way to an extreme minority of the populus because that populus feels it is their inalienable right to get married? I wholeheartedly disagree and like myself, the rest of America is not willing to risk our country or values to appease queers and dykes. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." The key phrase is under God. If you don't want or have a relationship with God, that's too bad. There are 19 states where the homo's and dykes can go to get married and live peacefully. So feel free to exercise your greatest privledge, freedom of choice.

Interracial couples were a much smaller minority than gay couples are now when LvV allowed them marriage. In fact, more of the population objected to mixed marriage than do people object to SSM. So why did it pass? Because rights in this country belong to the individual; the majority has a very limited voice. BTW--poll show that by a small majority, more people SUPPORT gay marriage. We are gay whether we want to be or not, idiot, just like you are hetero. It is not a choice. I love how you morons keep making up numbers when discussing the gay population.
