LOL Yea straight up homie you tell them mofos how it is in da hood. Dis is how it be goin down here dawg - you write! I mean, you right! LMAOI am glad that Spice failed. There is no reason why anyone in Pittsfield should try to bring some class and elegance to the area. This is a blue-collar city and it always will be.
Anyone above us socially and economically should go back to CT or NY because we're happy with our supposed lack of culture.
Culture is what it is, and it ain't you people who are different from us.
And don't try to say I am wrong because I am write

ARD - please go read my posts on "Spice Workers Get Options" and then rethink calling me a "w.h.o.r.e" for the elite. Right NOW |

ARD is out of line and should apologize.

Brave words coming from Clarence Fanto --- now.
I cannot help but notice the contribution The Berkshire Eagle has made to the Spice debacle by incessantly hyping the restaurant, especially in relation to other articles about Pittsfield's downtown renaissance. At minimum, there has been a lack of journalistic integrity. The Eagle's unbridled enthusiasm was never tempered by any realistic food reviews or honest assessment of the disconnect between an ultra-high-priced food emporium, the limited spending habits of the prospective Pittsfield audience, and the building owner's whopping $7.8 million mortgage. That high mortgage -- no secret, and on file at the Registry of Deeds -- on a street with $300,000 buildings should have at least attracted the notice of somebody with a knowing eye at The Eagle. But you never read anything about it in the newspaper. It's no wonder people are particularly incensed at Spice's failure. It's because they were continually being lied to by The Eagle. It makes one wonder just how much else The Eagle either lies about or simply fails to report about Berkshire institutions, and especially about the local sacred cows. Let me say something here: the reason I mouthed off sarcastically about this post before is because we were being given the message that Pittsfield should not be offered class and elegance, nor should we welcome those different from us blue collar folk...but most importantly, because we were told that anyone ABOVE US socially or economically should go back to NY or CT. Thereafter, I was called a w.h.o.r.e. for the elite. Problem is, I had posted on a different thread (Spice workers get options) that no one apparently from this thread had read. Let me clarify something right now: class and elegance do NOT necessarily come from the wallet!! Take all this art stuff during the summer. It's free to walk around and look at it, right? But they're hoping artists will move in around here (and work here and become taxpayers) and that people who look at their works will also shop in nearby stores and eat at nearby restaurants. There's some culture, free of cost. Having millions of dollars (to spend on dinner) does not buy one elegance and SURE AS HELL does not buy one class (just ask Eliot Spitzer). Secondly, what's this about anyone above us socially or economically? Da Joops is right on the money on post #20 when he states that we DON'T want people here who will stand on the backs of those who work in the service industry! I don't know the specifics of Spice, but generally speaking, right on!! However, who is he or anyone else to label these people (or anyone for that matter) ABOVE US just because they have more money?? Da Joops...do you really think these people are ABOVE YOU just because you are blue collar? I don't follow that rank & file s***; I'm proud to be a blue collar Pittsfield worker and no one is ABOVE me, especially those with more money, and I don't think you believe it either. So don't tell them they are. Let them come here and we'll keep showing them who's above who! Lets let the rich and the poor in here instead of both sides saying "Pittsfield is for the elite and cultured" or "Pittsfield is for the blue collar only". Then we'll see who wins the game of survival...sink or swim. Who will be left standing? It's not all about money cause as it's been proven time and time again, money won't buy you class, intelligence, love, or true respect. |

Before Spice opened thier doors and was just doing the building over, I knew then just by the attitude of the owners, it would not last long. Pittsfield citizens like being treated as if they are all somebody and not looked down upon. Some of my friends and I used to take our break in the back parking lot, while building was in progress. We were told by owners to stay out of thier lot, stating it looked bad for customers. What customers? It hadn't opened yet. Snotty gets you no where in this town. I'm sorry for the employees who thought high priced food meant bigger tips, but anyone whose been a wait person knows the bigger he bill, the smaller the tip. A moderate priced restaurant would have been the answer. That way everyone is happy. Just because out of towners spend money, doesn't mean they want to spend big bucks on a night out. I now work in a small retail business that has some wonderful prices. We got the out of towners coming in droves. That tells you they're hunting bargains to bring back. One thing brings back the affluent and out of towners to Pittsfield. The laid back attitude. Time Slows down and they can enjoy it. I, as a tax payer, for one, refuse to pay for the down fall of Spice with rising taxes because our city council gave them tax breaks. Let them take it out of the G.E. slush fund.

I, for one, had never eaten at Spice. I had no desire to.
I read Mr.Fanto's take on the closing and it is EXACTLY what everyone I know, who had eaten there, had expressed. They all can't be wrong. Kudos to the businesses who are still trying to cater to the vast majority of the diners in Pittsfield, families with children who want a descent meal for a descent price. We're out here. |

no, ARD is correct. Elizabeth goes around for quarters. She isn't worth it, but she does.

Well I guess Lower Ed was right about YOU, partyman...you really are that ignorant and just plain old **cking stupid because you're going against an ally - someone who is on your side. F***king idiot. |
|
Please, I don't want the likes of you on my side. You are as helpful to me as Rev. Wright is to Obama (but I guess you would actually have to read the newspaper and not just the blogs to know what I'm talking about).

It is quite sad to watch people posting such vitriolic things on this topic. Somehow or other, it seems to have completely slipped their minds that the monies loaned to Spice, were spent on improvements and went to local contractors and suppliers. It is sad to me, that a nearly 8 million dollar infusion into the local economy could be so thoroughly ignored.

Partyman, go find another party with lots of balloons and clowns where you belong you jerk. And don't use Obama's name in any thread with the handle of "partyman"... he doesn't need the image of cracked-out stoner welfare a**h0les like yourself to tarnish the rest of his intelligent voting base, people like me. |

I THINK IT IS SAD THAT THE CITY OFFICIALS WERE UNABLE TO SEE THAT A BUSINESS WITH PRICES THAT HIGH WOULD NOT SURVIVE THE WINTER. AND WHO IS THE LOSER THE TAX PAYER.

Really, the taxpayer is the loser? Just how does having $8 Million spent in Pittsfield, which otherwise would not have been invested at all, hurt the taxpayer? |
it hurts the taxpayer because of all the pain. |

ALLAN H, are you back in Pittsfield now or just checking in from your posh hotel room in Las Vegas? How'd last night's Baccarat game go? You looked way ahead last time I checked the table. |
