Way to go, Clarence! Rosenthal and Bernstein not only alienated the general public, they also never connected with the community of North Street businsses. They operated in a bubble, and now it has popped on them.

Exactly! Fundamental rule in business: KNOW YOUR MARKET!!! If there isn't a market for what you are trying to sell, you are doomed to fail.

I THINK ITS A SAD CASE, I AGREE THEIR PRICES WERE TOO HIGH FOR THE AVERAGE CONSUMER, THIS IS NOT NEW YORK CITY, AND THE WEEKENDERS ARE NOT GOING TO EAT THERE EVERY WEEKEND, PRICE IT ACCORDING TO THE WHAT THE "AVERAGE JOE" CAN AFFORD AND THE "AVERAGE JOE" WILL EAT THERE AND THE NEW YORKERS WILL LOVE IT EVEN MORE! I FOR ONE AM HOLDING A $100.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE THAT I AM GOING TO USE AT BURGERS AN AT THEIR PRICES, IF I BRING ANOTHER COUPLE I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET THROUGH ALMOST HALF OF IT.

BUT LETS ALL REMEMBER: NO ONE WANTS TO SEE A BUSINESS CLOSE ITS DOORS WITH A LONGSTANDING LOCAL BANK HOLDING THE MORTGAGE. NO ONE SHOULD ANYWAYS.....
THIS HURTS US ALL. I MAY NO LONGER LIVE IN PITTSFIELD, BUT MY ENTIRE FAMILY STILL DOES AND MY 3 YEAR PLAN IS TO COME BACK. THE ECONOMY OF THE CITY SUFFERS, THE TAXPAYERS SUFFER, HELL YOU ALL ALREADY KNOW THIS!

Sad

I think it is very sad to see such glee expressed over the failure of 2 people who tried their best to accomplish something in our city.
Clarence Fanto and the rest of you should be ashamed.

spice was a dump, they hardly feed you at the place, then the prices are thru the roof.what the hell did they expect was going to happen to the place,of course its gonna lose business when you charge to much for a meal, then you dont feed us at all at spice.i can get better deals on food elsewhere.why dont spice re-open in may with lower prices and better food, and please add more food to the plate so i can have something to eat.i would like a lumberjack meal with the plate loaded with mashed pototoes and gravy and turkey breasts or big chunks of meatload and mashed pototoes with peas on top of my pototoes or pork chops and mashed pototoes with peas on top, roast beef and mashed pototoes, fried chicken breasts and mashed pototoes and gravy.you have delicious mouth watering meals like this at good value prices and the place will do wonderfull business

This guy is right on the money. Spice was a fantasy but a nice one - non-restaurateurs making an super-size stage set. It should break down into three owner-operated restaurants that serve BSC- which is the biggest victim in the loss of Spice. I recommend EVERYBODY in Pittsfield become a student of New Urbanism, since the town is a perfect petri dish for rebirth.

Wow. So supportive. Why don't you just come out and call the owners of Spice- jerks, and to the people who did go there-not wanted. Pittsfield will really see progress with people like you.

I see the Mr. Fanto was listening to Carrie Saldo's report. Unfortunately her quotes from Ms. Goldstein are in almost direct contradiction to those in today's Eagle from the other partner, Mr. Rosenthal.
High end dining has a place in the Berkshires. Spice just didn't get the calculus right.
Good luck to the partners. I suspect that aside from their reputations, they have personally lost very little.

I am glad that Spice failed. There is no reason why anyone in Pittsfield should try to bring some class and elegance to the area. This is a blue-collar city and it always will be.
Anyone above us socially and economically should go back to CT or NY because we're happy with our supposed lack of culture.
Culture is what it is, and it ain't you people who are different from us.
And don't try to say I am wrong because I am write

A dream? There dream is to stand on the back of people who choose to work in the service industry so that they can rub elbows with the higher-ups?
That is not a dream we want here in Pittsfield. We don't need or want those type of people here. Let them stay in williamstown or Egremont. Let's at least keep Pittsfield pure.
