How much did the HQ pay for this ad?

Their food is bad, and service even worse.

Hindquarter deserves a good review. Food, Service, and choices are always good. If you think they only do meat, you should try their fish selections. The chef does fish better than anywhere else in town. The fish dishes are my favorite.

And they have a vegetarian menu upon request. I have had a few of their entrees off of it, they are all good! I think its a nice restaurant, a little over priced, but if you go with a coupon as mentioned, it is a great meal at a good price.

If it truly is your favorite restaurant, you don't get out much. Your taste buds have been dumbed down. Hindquarter, good place. Best? not even close.

Service is HORRIBLE! We spent close to $100.00 one night on steak dinners, a special treat for us. Not only did the waitress never bring the glass of wine I requested after the meal was served, but we never saw her again. When we left, we walked right by her gabbing away to some people like she didn't have a care in the world, she never even noticed us walk by here. We went up to the front and had to request our check, needless to say, we left no tip and never returned. The steaks were good, but not worth the bad service.

I've gotten over my SNARK that people actually PAY for these reviews. But the Sentinel KNOWS that people you give a bad review to WON'T ADVERTISE IN YOUR PAPER. So they send out Anne "It's ALL Good" Parker, and all is well. Call it an ADVERTISEMENT ON SPEC.

All servers in this town should read this. Many servers are prima donnas who think the world revolves around them.
Item #1 : Servers, your job is to serve, no to BS and wander around, the customers want their food and beverage served when they order it. The customers didn't come here to see YOU, they came to see the restaurant. Get over yourself. Pay attention to the customer!!! Please
Item #2 : Be glad you have a job and don't feel the business OWES you something for working there.
Item #3 : Put your cell phones away, stop chatting with the hostess, etc. DO what the customer asks you to do, give them your full attention.

There are some excellent servers in this town but I'm sad to say, the majority just don't have it!@!

You are correct in that Scream. Restaurants don't pay for these "reviews" and true that the restaurant won't advertise if they get a bad review. So just see it what it is for, a fluff piece.

The Hindquarter is just an average restaurant. This county needs a first-rate steakhouse - not Outback, but something like Ruth's Chris or better. There is a Morton's in San Jose, but no topflight steakhouses in Santa Cruz.

Spent a good time there a couple of Mondays ago with Monday Night Football and a friendly waitress who shared stories of visiting her grandparents in Ireland and the whishky tours. The all you can eat ribs I may have gone overboard on, but it was a nice place. Service was great, but maybe the waitresses just like me better

I love the Hindquarter. I've been a customer for a long time, ever since a friend invited me and I thought, "Oh damn. I'm not gonna like that place." But I was very surprised by how good it was. When I worked nearby, we'd go for the wild greens salad or the burgers for lunch, and they were the best. Over the years, I've had a few disappointing meals, but on the whole, I have very little to complain about. Every restaurant can have a bad day, so I don't judge on only one meal or only one server.

And by the way, newspaper reviewers go anonymously. Why do you think they don't have photos next to their articles? Now,the weekly papers may have different rules, but the dailies won't allow free meals or any heads-up announcements before the reviewer dines there. One of my friends was a restaurant reviewer in the East Bay, and he got really annoyed when people recognized him. He wouldn't do a review if they gave him any special treatment at all.

Folks, the word that Topix deleted wasn't what you think. It started with a DA and ended with an MN.

the point isn't that Ms Parker is anonymous the point is that uniformly all her reviews are glowing puff pieces for restaurants that are often lacking in service, food quality and taste and other aspects that deserve a more critical reveiw or denouncement. In a recent piece Ms Parker extolled the virtues of La Posta which is a good restaurant but even she admitted they forgot a glass of wine and coffee with their desserts. This is ridiculous for a restaurant that charges $20 for an entree to which she just blushed over as if this being Santa Cruz it's acceptable for the servers to not follow through. I've never experienced as bad service as I have in this town it's like they just don't care or that somehow you are bothering them

I've always liked the HQ. The food is good and the portions are enormous. Whether or not Ms Parker wrote this with future potential ad space from the HQ in mind or not - it's a good restaurant. You get a lot of food for the money and they have a lot to choose from. Plus the coupns are great: 2 for 1 lunch items. Not a bad deal!! If you haven't already eaten there - I'd check it out. Plus it's one of few locally owned restaurants!! And like they say - think local first!!

The OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF RESTAURANTS in this city are locally owned. You have no idea what you are talking about. Even some of the fast food restaurants are owned by local people. Your lack of understanding means you lose credibility in your argument
