I know several teachers that work at inner city schools and few of the mothers work. There generally are no fathers to speak of. Your defense of laziness seems to know no bounds.

I think that schools don't have a very great desire to having meaningful relationships with parents,
How can you blame them for avoiding the parents? You've got teachers locking the special needs students in a soundproof rape/beatdown room. You've got teachers balling kids in the classroom on the desk and in the car in the wal-mart lot and in teacher's home on Friday night liquor/drug night. You've got teachers sneaking girls off for an abortion without telling the parents. you've got teachers playing hookie to go sh^t in the statehouse rotunda. you've got teachers giving condoms to 2nd graders. You've got teachers indoctrinating marxism to the students and encouraging the reading of Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals". You've got teachers foisting the gay agenda. You've got teachers instructing hate America. And don't forget, you've got teachers tricking little girls into drinking sperm. And best of all you've got teachers you cannot fire for moral turptitudes...so yeah, F^*k_the parents.

I would suggest that your teacher friends don't truly know enough about those parents/families to make those kinds of statements.

Building relationships with parents/families is not rocket science. But it does require effort. I won't go so far as you have as to accuse teachers of laziness. But, I will suggest that they are highly unmotivated in this area because, as I noted, parents are a convenient scapegoat for systemic failures.

Teaching is VERY hard work. Making a difference in the lives of children is VERY difficult. Teachers, for the most part, really DO care about their students and want to see them succeed. When they do not--despite great effort on the part of the individual teacher--it is very easy to shift the blame off on uncooperative or lazy parents. This is far less painful than the realization that perhaps the entire structure of our educational system has been built around an assumption that some kids will not succeed.

But, in reality, the only thing likely to change that will be working groups that include both parents and teachers, taking on the larger system. And that is a very scary thought.

the scary thought is to double down on the failure of the entire system!

private is the answer; and end govt control.

who says a teacher has to have a teaching certificate; but govt?

think Les Wexner could teach math, or Fred Ricart, or Jack Nicklaus? All columbus folk.

could Al Pacino teach acting?

how about Rush Limbaugh communications?

point being, retired people are an untapped asset that could teach far better than those so called certified experts. Also many many would love to do so for free!

problems require solutions; and money 95% of the time is not the answer.

As always, RS, you are ready to blow up the system with only the flimsiest of ideas regarding what might take its place.

Let's just look at a few realities, shall we? What is the current capacity of private schools in this state? Nowhere near what is needed to educate the whole state. Very likely not even near to what is needed to accept the number of voucher Kasich has written into law..

What is the capacity of retirees both willing and able to step into teaching positions? You suggest five--and from your group you would be very lucky to fine ONE willing to step into even a part-time (volunteer?) teaching position.

How do you propose paying tuition for all these nonexistent private schools? Tax dollars? or are you willing to accept a massive decline in literacy levels of those already living hand to mouth? Of course tax dollars might solve the immediate capacity program as everybody and his cousin will be willing to throw open the doors of a "school." If hn thinks the schools are full of perverts now, just wait until you remove all regulation regarding who can teach.

Let me suggest a new truism. If you are not sufficiently competent to make improvements in what is, don't think that you have the competence to come up with anything better just by blowing it up and starting over.

you must not be able to read O Reader, because I explained funding.

and it would take less than a year to transition to new private system.

yes it is that easy. Private sector moves quick or dies.

all that regulation you speak about has us in last place compared to peers. Do we need more regs, or a new direction. Really?

PS: how can literacy levels decline below current? again really?

again...you post is nothing but excuses and vomit.

Reader.........

something to ponder..........

since 1960 we have had 10 POTUS, 5 from Dem & 5 GOP.

1960 a single income with a HS education provided for a family. lower middle class.

2012 two incomes with HS education don't provide what one did in 1960. live paycheck to paycheck.

not disputable....factual.

since 1960 our population is up 45%; and not from births.

POTUS Johnson implemented the new deal to fight poverty in early 1960's.

Poverty in 2012 is a fraction of a single % point worse than 1960. FACT.

Dept of Education was formed in 1980.

prior to Dept of Education we were top educated population in the world.

2012 we are in last place compared to peers.

since 1960 the morality of this country has fallen to that of 3rd world countries.

what I as a 50 year old have witnessed is Govt intrusion in every facet of our lives they can get a grasp on.

you agree, or disagree? you were here.

Govt intrusion cost huge tax dollars. It has produced nothing. I say made things worse.

Govt spending like NASA & military, has provided us with cool new tech stuff like a microwave; and a computer, cell phone, and extended lifespan for humans and animals, travel.

where has social spending helped? name something please. I can't think of a single thing.

PS: I am being serious.

Literacy is not a terribly high standard. The US is generally considered to be 100% literate.

Blow up the public school system, however, and there are likely to be some kids who don't learn how to read at all.

Let me ask again--in what country in the world do we have an example of successful education based solely on private schools?

first off why be a sheep; and not the shepard?

when you say blow up, it already is.

fixing root cause problems is not blowing up anything.

have you ever heard of College? would you say private college is successful? here or England as example?

what about kids that do go to private school today. Do you think they are better than public schools?

Comparisions between public and private schools, once demographics are taken into consideration, are virtually indistinguishable with regard to outcomes (that would be learning). One possible distinction between the two may be in the percentage of students who go on to college.

But my question about a country that is successfully based on private education was not about colleges, but rather your basic elementary and secondary education. Can you name a single country successfully educating their children (future workers) without a system of public education?

Make sure that you keep your "drink" in the brown paper bag, or they'll throw you out.

Is it still a quarter to get into the Columbus pools?

how would I know?

I would not wet my finger in that cess poll.

ask your kids when they get home from the pool; and ask them also how many times they craped in the water today.

it is your neighborhood pool.

Craped?

I only bring it up because someone who wants us all to believe that he has a pool in his backyard, ought to be well-educated enough to spell your basic euphemism for defecation.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Taurus

Try hard not to let money or possessions come between you and a friend today, unless it's over something that has got to be sorted out before it goes any further. For instance, if someone owes you money and has consistently failed to pay it back, this is a good day for mentioning it to them and finding out what's going on. If necessary, you may have to be quite vehement.
