I started Chantix in early June, smoked a little for a couple of weeks but it tastes really bad and it isn't much fun anymore. Problem??? yes, my boyfriend still smokes, I am a afraid to quit the Chantix because I will start to smoke again. The tempation will make me cheat....But the Chantix is making me mean, thin skinned and a big cry baby. I don't like myself and every morning plead with myself to be nice today. I can see why people want to commit suiside, who will ever like me if I can't like myself. I tell myself to stop taking the stuff but it is working. What if I cut the dosage in half??? help

First, please talk to your doctor about all of these feelings and problems. Personally, I think it is dangerous to let yourself continue to feel so desperate especially if the Chantix is the cause.

Secondly, being around others who smoke was not a huge problem for me when I quit. I quit in the summer and we spend lots of time outside. There were at least three other folks smoking all the time and I share my home with people who continue to smoke. I may have moments when I think of sharing a cig, but for the most part it is just a very curious behavior I watch in others! I can't describe how weird it is to see them smoking and I don't have any desire to join it!

Third: FOR ME and only for me, the reduced dosage worked well. I still had side effects but they were reduced and I was able to stay quit. I was on 1 pill split in two within the first month or so and I weaned off completely by the end of three months.

Most importantly, please talk to your doc.

Can we please get back to chantix. I have been having nightsweats and they got worse when I increased the dosage. I'm down to about 5 cigarettes a day and ready to quit. This is my forth time quitting on Chantix. I've suffered the separation anxiety(which they don't tell you about) but have learned how to deal with it. The weird dreams is sometimes troubling but I can deal with that. I want to quit smoking but haven't heard about the nightsweats. Has anyone else suffered with this?
How are you doing?

Girl I have the same disorders as you anxiety, gorphobia, and heart murmor. My husband and I wanted to stop smoking, our friend used chantix it worked for him.So we started ,after a few day's I noticed I could not sleep I was paranoid about everthing my husband thought i was on speed because I could not sleep.I made no sence at all and my family thought I nut's as well.I went to the hospital and told them I felt I was having a reaction to chantix they said it was not in my system anymore cause I stoped 2 days before. My bloodpressure was very high, the doctor decide to check me in to ske ward I freaked out bad.My husband talked to the doctors when we got there and by the grace of god I was out in afew hours!I will never take that crap again.I smoke from now on.Slowly you get your marblesback,it has been a year so far so good.Take care you will be okay

I already have emphysema, anxiety panic disorder, agorphobia, arythmea (rapid heart rate) and I can't believe that my doctor prescribed this for me. I trusted his judgement. the chantix website said that doctors do not know alot about Chantix so we should ask our pharmacist if we have any questions. I take numerous prescription medications, and every time I called for a refill on any of them the pharmacist or technition asked only about how I was doing on the chantix.
Now I dont know if I am paranoid or not, i feel so horrible and have for weeks, but I am wondering if the pharmacist knew something I didnt or maybe it was just a coincidence.
I am afraid to state my fears because I dont want to get locked up and told I am delusional, all because I have emphysema and desperately want to quit smoking.
I just hope these affects are not long term or permanent! i would rather die from lung disease than to feel like this for one more day!! I am absolutely horrified and it takes an hour to put one sentence together so anyone can half understand it.

NICOTINE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS NOT CHANTIX SIDE EFFECTS:
These are temporary and aren't much fun. You might get none, some, or all and more!

Your mind will play tricks on you and try to dominate your thoughts. Mood swings, loneliness, lack of concentration, emptiness, agitation, stress, anger, self-pity, and just general crankiness might happen. These psychological symptoms are explained more in Side Effects of Quitting Smoking.

Headaches or a general heaviness. This is a classic smoking withdrawal symptom, often caused by your sinuses clearing out.

Shaking, sweating or feeling very cold.

Coughing, hacking, runny nose, wheezing and shortness of breath. Seems strange to get these when you've quit, but your body is ridding itself of years of tar and built-up residues. In other words, at last taking the opportunity of having a good clean-out.

Insommnia is common. Well, it is stressful to quit and break your normal patterns. As with all stress — good or bad, sleep challenges can surface.

Sour stomach or stomach pains. Your digestion might get out of whack for a little while.

Pains, pains, pains. Some smokers get stomach cramps, sore gums, pains in chest... pains anywhere. Your mind and body are going through a healing crisis and they are going to remind you of what they are missing.

Tiredness and a general zapped feeling

They are all short lived!!!

Bill,
I noticed all that you mentioned while I was on the drug for 4 weeks as well as some strange psychotic paranoia. It has been a year and a half and I have never been the same. I kept waiting for the effects to wear off, but I am now an rageful person and compulsive about so many things. I also find I have outbursts of inappropriateness and as a mother of two young children, I feel I am ruining their lives. I would have rather smoked and died from that...than be like this.

<quoted text>Maybe the agitation you felt was from nicotine withdrawal! Chantix, fom what I understand, doesn't replace nicotine it blocks it on the receptor level in the brain.Take note , nicotine is also physically addicting!! FYI
It does replace the nicotine! It causes the release of dopamine like nicotine. That's why it's so easy to quit smoking.

I have been having this symptom too as I approach my 2nd week. I'm even stuttering when I slow down and take a deep breath, but it's not helping with some words. Never had this problem before. Has anyone else experienced this as a side effect?

thanks.....

Dysarthria- speech impairment; is difficult, poorly pronounced speech, such as slurring; inability to speak

That is a listed side effect. I experienced the inability to speak before I ended up in the ER. Talk to your doctor and consider stopping chantix before it is too late for you. Or call me crazy like the others who did not have those side effects, Pfizer lists them for a reason and ther is now a black box warning for chantix.

I've been on Chantrix for three weeks now, non-smoking for two according to their plan. I've tried the patch, the patch w/Welbutrin(Zyban), the gum, the losenges, and cold turkey. Chantrix has worked for me better than others so far. I don't think by reading all these posts that it is for everyone. Two things I know from smoking for 40 years: 1. In order to quit, you must be committed(not to the hospital) to quitting; and 2. the urge to smoke will never go away. Keep your mind on something else and just keep trying. My only side effect has been really bizarre dreams which I have enjoyed to the point of waking up laughing. I hope everyone quits smoking that wants to, with or without Chantrix. Their support plan is a usable resource

True chantix is not for everyone. I had no major problems with it until I tried to quit chantix. Then I ended up committed and I don't mean to quitting smoking. My fun dreams turned into living nightmares. The damage chantix did will never go away. Good luck quitting!

RJToobs... Several of us on these topix threads have had very successful quits. Lots of them said they had tried several other ways to quit smoking & Chantix worked the best for them.

Most of us had the high def dreams...I did enjoy them for a little while. Action filled...LOL

I had also smoked for over 40 years...In a few days I will celebrate my 19 month quit!!!! The Chantix helps but it still takes work on our parts. OLD HABITS DIE HARD!!! Got to change those habits...

Viki (one of the quitter before me) had posted here to do a very slow wean from the Chantix. It made sense to me....I did not want to just go completely off it & then the next day be hit by huge urges to smoke. Each step down I did feel a little more urge but by the time I was taking 1/4 pill every other day & I'd forget to take - I knew it was time to fly on my own!!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Glad your post got bumped up to the top since I missed it the first time.
