Full story: KCBY-TV Coos Bay

No Change!

When Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) released a draft climate bill in March, we praised it as a great first step but noted that it needed to be improved during the committee mark-up process.

But instead of a transparent process involving debate and voted-upon amendments, committee leadership conducted closed-door negotiations with polluters. The result: The bill was radically altered to accommodate the financial interests of big energy corporations while giving nothing new for the environment or for working families. This is hardly the transformation this country needs to jump-start its economy and curb climate change. This is more of the same old wait-and-see, special-interest-bailout approach that has gripped Washington for ages.

It is disappointing that the entire process has been riddled with the corrupting influence of big money, with hundreds of thousands of dollars being given to members of the Energy and Commerce Committee by the oil, gas and coal industries. Ultimately, the people’s business should be done in front of the people. Instead, deals have been cut in back rooms to bribe special interests into supporting the bill.

The committee’s decision to give away most of the pollution allowances for free for the next two decades is unacceptable. This approach hurts working families and average households the most; an Environmental Protection Agency analysis has shown that giving away pollution credits is “highly regressive.” Congress can look out for average families or give away pollution credits for free. It can’t do both.

Warren Buffett say Climate Bill Costs Consumer

Buffet’s MidAmerican Energy slams cap-and-trade provision in Waxman-Markey bill

U.S. power Utilities have mostly come out in favor of the Waxman – Markey climate change bill, however one dissenting voice came from Warren Buffet’s MidAmerican Energy Holdings, which specifically criticized the bill’s cap-and-trade provision, saying it would lead to higher electricity bills for consumers.

In a written statement MidAmerican’s Chairman David Sokol said:“Cap and trade will have a profoundly negative impact on people who are struggling to make ends meet in an economy still in distress.” The legislation, he warned, would force customers to first, pay the cost of emissions allowances and “second… pay the cost of replacing our existing fossil-fuel generation facilities with low-carbon alternatives.”

Sokol said MidAmerican supports carbon emission reductions and believes the electric sector can achieve the 83% reduction in emissions by 2050 called for in the Waxman-Markey bill by avoiding cap-and-trade altogether.

Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says

Kate Ravilious
for National Geographic News

February 28, 2007

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory.

That's funny, I hear REAL experts say $1,300 a year would be the cost, to start. Not to mention jobs would be lost at a rate this country has never seen. And all for a fairy tale that true science is showing is wrong. Just another Obama tactic to bring this country to its knees. I will never vote for ANY hack who gives this fantasy credit.

Even Obama admits it is going to triple your electric bill ... does that sound like $100 more to you? The lies and deceit continue from this administration.
Obama flew five jets over to Denmark to plead for the Olympic games. Does that sound like a man who believes his own lies about global warming and CO2 pollution?

Anyone one with half a brain knows that Cap-n-Trade will bankrupt many families and cause unnecessary harm to millions more families. This legislation is a monster tax on the working class and poor of this nation with more profits for the energy sector and more money going into the Government coffers for more wastful spending.

"There are those who will suggest that moving toward clean energy will destroy our economy, when it's the system we currently have that endangers our prosperity and prevents us from creating millions of new jobs," Obama told his audience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Elsewhere at MIT...
"Professor Richard Lindzen of MIT’s peer reviewed work states “we now know that the effect of CO2 on temperature is small, we know why it is small, and we know that it is having very little effect on the climate.”

"The global surface temperature record, which we update and publish every month, has shown no statistically-significant “global warming” for almost 15 years.

Statistically-significant global cooling has now persisted for very nearly eight years. Even a strong el Nino – expected in the coming months – will be unlikely to reverse the cooling trend."

More significantly, the ARGO bathythermographs deployed throughout the world’s oceans since 2003 show that the top 400 fathoms of the oceans, where it is agreed between all parties that at
least 80% of all heat caused by manmade “global warming” must accumulate, have been cooling over the past six years.

That now prolonged ocean cooling is fatal to the “official” theory that “global warming” will happen on anything other than a minute scale."

Who costed out the impact of this bill on society, the tree-huggers? Most estimates I have read have been in th $2-3,000 range.

This is total BS.
