Why is this thread cut in two?
|
The first one was a quickie online article, the second one was the actual front page article. It generates 2 seperate blogs. I know, stupid isn't it? |

Just like something out of "Looney Tunes." But don't get the wrong idea. I LOVE Looney Tunes! |

Though I may agree with you somewhat, it needs to be designated as a historical building to get around the ADA. But even then, historical buildings have some ADA compliance issues that they must abide by. It is not when a building is built, as you noted "1960". |

This IS NOT what the Americans with disabilities act is about.
Really! Frivolous lawsuits like this are an embarrassment to me, because people say that they are doing this on my behalf. Well I say that they are NOT doing this to better my life. It is quite sad that we just wanted the institutionalized discrimination stopped, and be allowed access to schools and not be told that we are not allowed simply because we might be deaf, blind, or in a wheelchair. We didn't want to make you miserable, we just wanted you to stop making US miserable for no good reason. We were willing to find our own way around, or through things, and not require that the world bow and worship us. What we wanted was NOT for everyone to change their lives to fit us. Rather we wanted to NOT be told "you can't be here because you are disabled" once we DID overcome the barriers to access. Then, just because we did not turn a 1 paragraph request into a 200 page document, somebody else did. All these lights with dollar signs went on in lawyers eyes, and we end up with all these ramps and parking requirements and things to eliminate situations that we would have found annoying and difficult, but were willing to work around, on our own. Back in '79 there were over 100 of us that took over the 4th floor of the federal building in San Francisco for 3 weeks to push for the implementation of senate bill 504. This was the beginning of the movement for disabled people to be accepted for the people we are, rather than the gimp you are so fond of calling us. Now we have this huge monster of a boulder that has been running around crushing the rights of others for years. I can assure you that this kind of legal action was not what we had in mind when we got this stone rolling. We don't need to have money grubbing types using our disabilities to advance their ability to hoard cash in offshore accounts. Because of actions like this there is a backlash of resentment against people with all kinds of disabilities. And in that respect, these lawyers are causing harm to the people that they CLAIM to be helping. Not only that, it paints us all [the gimpy ones, that is] with the same brush, and makes us look like nit picking little jerks with a chip on our shoulders. I for one will miss the snack bar. Even if the burgers were dried up and nasty. I just didn't order the burgers there. But i did enjoy the oreo milkshakes. So if you want to blame someone, don't blame the gimps. Blame those well dressed folks that are out trying to justify the money they spent on learning how to make a one paragraph agreement cover 200 pages of jargon, and still have ways to cheat people out of their lively hood. [parting shot] This is what happens when lawyers take control of the legal system. |

Arctic Circle should counter sue for defamation of character!!
|
|
Indeed. Therefore i would urge Arcata business owners and the city to relent on their crusade to persecute medical marijuana patients....or else i predict a wave of ADA lawsuits from disgruntled, disabled 215 patients. |

Ya but most 215 users are just faking sick to get high.
