Assistant AG Perez Testifies Before Congress on ENDA

Full story: lezgetreal.com

Today, the Assistant Attorney General of the United States, Thomas E. Perez, testified with regards to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, or ENDA. Mr. Perez heads up the Civil Rights Division. According to him, ” Our mission is clear: to uphold and protect the civil and constitutional rights of all Americans, particularly some of the most vulnerable among us. We seek to advance this Nation’s long struggle to embrace the principle so eloquently captured by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that persons should be judged based on ‘content of their character,’ and not on their race, color, sex, national origin, religion or any other irrelevant factors.”

Of course they want gay people to keep working.....we pay the most taxes and receive the least amount of benefits.
But when it comes to gay marriage or serving in the military....Obama and the democrats just don't have time for us in 2010.

Yes, I voted democratic all my life until Obama.
Now I belong to the Green Party.

There is the small difference that Obama is the president and the green party is a party but this is from the Maine Green Party voters guide:

Question 1: People's Veto

Do you want to reject the new law that lets same-sex couples marry and allows individuals and religious groups to refuse to perform these marriages?

Recommendation: No

"The MGIP has always supported full marriage equality and believes that the great state of Maine ought to be proud to uphold this long overdue piece of legislation. The institution of marriage is at least partially defined by our government in that issues such as tax benefits and rights of survivorship are automatically granted to married couples. If the institution of marriage is available to some loving couples, it ought to be available to all. The MGIP supports an emphatic NO on 1".

The democrats on the other hand simply sent out a mailer that said to vote and did not even mention Prop. 1.
The attorney general said that the Obama administration had "no opinion" on 1.
And finally Obamas PAC and the DNC urgred it's Maine members to make calls on behalf of the New Jersey governor....and when asked about this, lied until they got caught. You can read the whole story at the following link:

This was in the Maine Democratic Party platform in 2008. As a result, the Maine legislature approved marriage equality last Spring.

Now which party do you think pushed that? The Republicans or the Greens?

On a national level, the Greens did NOTHING for Question 1.

Too bad the Maine Democratic Party refused to send that message this year......they were too busy campaigning for Corzine.

What part of standing up and voting in the legislature do you not understand? As for the Green Party, they were also too busy to help in Maine. AWOL.

Governor Baldacci was out there stumping for No on 1 quite a lot. As the face of the Maine Democratic Party, he may not have been the best choice, but he was the most noticable. Also, remember, most of the Democratic Political Machine in Maine is unknown, as it is in most states. Most of the State Legislature is made up of people who have to work for a living, so they may not have had the ability to get out there and stump a lot.

I would not charictarize this as being that the Maine Dems didn't do anything. They did.
