How about you spend it on some more bridges-to-nowhere, you schmuck!!! How do we get this guy and Ted Stevens out of congress???

You obviously have no clue about the need for a bridge across the Cook Inlet from Anchorage. How about if we take away all the bridge across the San francisco Bay. Pay those gas prices for a while and see if it has in impact on your economy. Anchorage needs room to grow. It simply must have reasonable access to new land.

Why don't all you people in the lower 48 mind your on business? Over half of the US population doesn't even know we are a state of the USA. For example, on Ebay, some will not mail to Alaska or Hawaii, and lots of other stores in the lower 48 will not either.
So, if you don't live here, you don't know what you are talking about. And by the way, AK stands for Alaska, not Arkansas. |

You obviously are the smuck, You people call it the bridge to nowhere but have no idea about alaska. I suppose in your mind you think you know whats good for Alaskans. But actually if you lived and worked here you would see the need to open up this land by putting a bridge across. Do it now while the cost is great but not near as great as what it will be 20 yrs. later. Some people oppose all they dont understand and quite frankly your comments show you dont have a clue! |

By the way smuck I do live in Point Mackenzie I know what I am talking about and you live in Where? Gee I will bet Oakland Ca. has all the great road improvements and you just love burning that fuel. Yes the same fuel that Alaska provides or are you aware of that? How much revenue does the federal goverment get from Alaskan Oil? I would be willing to bet you dont know that it is more than enough to say that Alaskan Oil actually went to the federal goverment and they gave a very small dividend in return. I think you call it "The Bridge to knowhere" We call it development. But since Alaska is 1/5 the size of the whole United States you are obviously Ignorant enough to think we dont need any bridges. Hell maybe you think we run dogteams! What a clueless ignorant person you must be to spout off comments with no knowledge of the situation. Go to your greenpeace meeting by foot!! |

Whoa, Marc - Easy there, big fellah -- 1) "Schmuck" is spelled with an "m" :-) 2) My rant was directed at Alaskan politicians, not Alaskan citizens. God bless all Alaskans because... 3)...I spent more than half my life growing up in Anchorage, so I'm not *entirely* ignorant of what goes on there. And I still have family who live locally and bemoan all of the shenanigans that Murkowski, Young, Stevens et al pull on a weekly basis. 4)Don't think for a minute that all Californians are tree-hugging Sierra Clubbing Green Peacers- I, for one, am not. Don't begrudge us because it's 70 degrees and sunny here today. 5) To poster "Tacoma": The "bridge to nowhere" actually refers to a proposal to connect tiny Gravina island to Ketchikan, which if you'll consult your atlas, is about 1000 miles from the Cook Inlet. I think you were referring to the Knik Arm bridge? 6) As a Californian, I share Alaskans' pain in propping up most of the other 48 states in wealth and revenue sharing (and we don't even get dividends!!), but as it stands, we're part of the "USA" and not the "Republic of California", and the "Frontier Territory of Alaska" Now that we've settled that, Marc, do you really think the bridge is a good way to spend your state's money? If so, I'd like to hear your opinion on why - cause most of the folks I've talked to think it ain't such a great idea. Granted, if you live in Point Mackenzie, you've obviously got some vested interest in connecting your burg to the greater mass in anchor-town. Are there other reasons? What say ye? |

It may not be a bridge to knowhere, but it sure cost alot for just a few thousand people. In Oregon we cant get a bypass built with out a toll on it and there are 32,000 of us that will use it everyday. As for the comment about the bridges in S.F. they pay a toll for the use of those. how about if all you in AK pay a toll for your bidge, it would only cost you oh lets see around $20.00 each way to pay it off in ten years or so. Dont forget we are being asked to help pay for it too.
