(B) She and Robert Kahn-job have repeatedly claimed "There are never enough shelter beds". But the murderer had NO problems staying at the River St. shelter.
BECKY: We have shelter beds for 646 people in the County (prior to 3 of 4 Watsonville shelters closing). Yet, we enumerated 2,771 homeless people on a single night. The actual homeless population is probably about double that number. So we have shelter for just over 10% of those unhoused. Are you saying that because ONE GUY spent a few nights at a shelter, this PROVES we have "enough" shelter?

I don't ever remember Nome, Alaska or Fargo, North Dakota or any of hundreds of other US cities claiming to be "bum magnets. You exaggerate and hyperbolize to the point of absurdity, which is why you have no credibility except among fellow bottom feeders and nutjobs.

Of course Santa Cruz has a strong attraction for bums with its generous social services, good weather and lots of fellow travelers. Of course, the piece de resistance, they have you, Robert(the trust fund 1%'er)Norse and the mighty HUFF to advocate for them. That is a benefit only in winter since all three only provide hot air, not actual help.

I support the prosecution of the suspect. Did you know that two homeless men tried to save Shannon? One was a self-proclaimed "drunk" but he and his friend tried to pull the assailant off of Shannon. Unfortunately, he very swiftly killed her and their efforts were in vain.

Thanks to Steve Pleich and Linda Lemaster for this piece calling for calm, and calling out leaders for using this senseless tragedy to ramp up anti-homeless sentiment. Would Mayor Don Lane and Ex. Dir. Monica Martinez REALLY have called for more restrictions on tenants or homeowners, had the killer of Shannon Collins been housed?
