Oh good grief! If this doesn't beat all! Did he have his parents permission to carry a weapon to school and kill, wound people? This is plumb stupid... He needs to serve the time that was sentenced to him and just hush. He'd better be glad the judicial system handed his sentence instead of the general public... eye for an eye - etc...

I guess he saw the Mary Winkler verdict and realized murder is now legal in Tennessee.

The parents shouldn't have a say---aren't they the ones who raised him to not know the difference between RIGHT and WRONG? Why should that kid get my tax dollars to live in an already crowded prison system? I can't get surgery I need to have because I don't have health insurance, but I bet the state provides him with the best health care our tax dollars can buy!

We got rid of Philip Workman. I bet if the state actually killed some of these people whom they sentence to death, murder rates across the state would drop.

However, far too often the rights of the guilty party far outweigh the rights of the innocent victims.

It's a sad state of affairs.

I agree - people sit in prison on death row too long.
This kid needs to find out he can't kill and get away with it.

That lady was mistreated by her "preacher" husband;
no-she should not have killed him, but she took care of the problem. Maybe she did not mean to kill him, no one will ever know. Maybe, now she can live a life without having to go through abuse, other than having killed someone on her mind.

We will have murderers walking all around us now, if they all know that you can confess without your parents and lawyer being there and they accept it. But this is Campbell county we are talking about, so of course they are stupid enought to accept it with thinking. We all know he did it, so regardless, he should do the time. Another way for him to be free on the streets to get mad and do it again, spending the money that he will get because the county messed up.

Just like the case where the guy got 120 days in jail for killing that teenage girl in a street racing contest. Is this what a life is worth??? Makes you wonder why the judicial system doesn't just make purgery and murder and drug dealing legal?? Politicians have us fighting a war on a LIE, people getting 120 days or no time for murder and getting a ticket when they get pulled over with drugs. Go figure, and on another note, this world is going to hell in a handbasket when are we going to wake up and get it right b4 it's too late????

Why would he need his parents permission to make a plea deal when he was being tried as an adult? I think he understands the charges against him and understands what the punishment HAS TO BE !

How do you know she was mistreated by her husband? Oh wait, she said so. Too bad we can't ask him his side of it.

I say too bad for the parents. They have been absent his entire life, so it seems. So too bad they weren't there when the plea deal was made.WHY WEREN'T THEY THERE ??????
Why drag these families through this whole ordeal again.

I bet I could think of someone better, but they were killed by Kenneth! Sorry, I really don't care if I'm being judgmental when I say that this kid made a conscious decision to kill people who only cared to help him. He is being tried as an adult, and as an adult the police should not need parent permission. When are we as a society going to stop pitying the criminal and start standing up for the victims?

Yep, 120 days for killing a teenage girl, probably probation for Mary Winkler, and now this... the lawyers will figure out some way to get him off.

And by the way, about Mary Winkler... there are battered women shelters in virtually every city/county in this country right? And divorces are still pretty easy to come by? And isn't it fairly easy to get a restraining order?

I KNOW that all this doesn't necessarily keep an abusive man away, but if she had of at least tried some of these avenues before she KILLED him I would have more sympathy!!

BOTTOM LINE, you can do anything as long you have a good lawyer.

This child had a terrible role model as a father. However, Joe Bruce's song has been overly sung too. Seems she's gotten loads of attention since this happened. Who knows, she might have made her husband miserable. I think a mental institution would help this child. Besides, who knows what he might do once he gets out of prison. Revenge maybe? Oh, I see that happening.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME ... I KNOW ALL OF THE FAMILIES INVOLVED IN THIS, THE BRUCE FAMILY WAS JUST THAT A HAPPY FAMILY. JO HAS GOTTEN ALOT OF ATTENTION FROM THIS YES,AND SHE DESERVES EVERY BIT OF IT. AS WELL AS ALL THE FAMILIES INVOLVED. THESE PEOPLES LIVES HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOREVER. JO WAS LEFT WITH 2 SONS THAT NOW HAVE NO FATHER. MR.PIERCE WAS AN ACTIVE MAN WHO RAN EVERYDAY. HE CAN NO LONGER RUN OR DO ANYTHING PHYSICAL.MR.SEALES IS NOT THE SAME MAN I KNEW BEFORE THIS ALL HAPPENED. KENNETH HAS BEEN A TROUBLED YOUTH FOR A VERY LONG TIME. HE HAS NO GUIDANCE FROM HIS FAMILY. I'M NOT SURPRISED HIS FAMILY WASN'T THERE TO ACCEPT OR DECLINE THE PLEA.

IF his parent's permission was necessary for the plea, WHY wasn't it received before it was accepted? This is a cheap shot on all the Bartley's parts to put the families through hell all over again. Let him go through with the 45 year deal or put the death penalty ON THE TABLE if another trial is to be!
