illegals should be banned from the entire education system in this country, because they are ILLEGAL, the person named in the story whose family is admittedly here by illegal means should be deported. Before anyone starts about the poor uneducated kids and helping them, the whole point is they are here illegally....

I don't think a state should reward illegal activity. We cannot afford to continue to provide free health care in the emergency rooms either. Some of our small towns like Morristown and Lenoir City are not the same as they were ten years ago due to the flux of illegals that have moved in.

"Moya and nine other students from across the state climbed into SUVs in Nashville on Wednesday morning to drive to Washington, meet with both lawmakers and try to jump-start it. The Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition organized the trip."

So why wasn't INS there waiting for them? Geeze.

America is going to HAVE to take a stand on this issue. We are the ones that have allowed these idiots to sneak into our country. Therefore, it will be up to us to make it happen. So what if they came over here and had a baby. The baby should be illegal if the parents are illegal. I know it isn't the child's fault, but we have to toughen up! That is why our schools are the way they are.....we don't TOUGHEN UP! Hellllllloooooo!

Well said. I totally agree! They are overcrowding our schools, taking away advantages from US kids who have a right to be here and be educated, making things harder on teachers who have to communicate with them. This family is just rubbing their illegality in the faces of Americans. I am just stunned that nothing is done about the illegal population in America. It's simply ridiculous! There are not many countries where we (US citizens) could go to and live without being deported or imprisoned for being a illegal CRIMINAL. Why should we let criminals roam and live freely amongst us????

Campfield still sucks and still wastes the states time....oh and by the way the federal law (if passed will trump the state law). You may be able to keep the illegals out of your state schools for a while, but inevitably when the federal government starts decreasing the amount of money your state schools get to help fund its school, you will be forced to give in. So if both bills pass, only one really counts....take that campfield...

And if you got rid all the illgal aliens in our country...our economy would be a worse off than it is now...no one wants to pay high prices for things..and most don't want to do the menial jobs that these illegals work in...So think about the bigger picture before you all just get on the no illegal immigrant bandwagon...something should be done to protect our future, but it would be ridiculous to try and reverse what has already taken place.

The amount of money that is pumped into all these programs for illegal children is rediculous. Yes, it is sad for them, but maybe if we toughen up then people in Mexico won't be so gung ho about sprinting over the border. I had a practicum at an elementary school in Morristown; in the class of 20, 7 didn't speak a word of English. How are teachers expected to teach kids when there is 1/3 of the class who doesn't even know what is going on? There is no way for everyone to win here, so how about the people who are breaking the law be the losers?

You're exactly right. No state in the union should "reward" ILLEGALS. The key word in this entire post is ILLEGAL, ILLEGAL, ILLEGAL.

I am so tired of people catering to the illegals.
If they are here illegally - send them home, don't put them in jail for the taxpayers to feed, etc. If they are caught speeding, etc., check to see if they are legal first - if not, send them home!!! We don't need to feed, school, clothe, etc. these people who don't even try to speak English, and treat the people who were born here rough.

I can't believe that Tennessee has such an organization. I'm sure that it's not the only either. What is missing from the title of this organization is the word ILLEGAL in front of the Immigrant word. Simply pathetic. Very discouraging for LEGAL citizens whoever they may be!!!!

Illegal Aliens are CRIMINALS under the LAW and are mandated to be DEPORTED no matter what age they are.

Letting any Illegal Alien attend school is aiding and abetting, and those who allow the Illegal Aliens to stay in dorms are also harboring Illegal Aliens. All 3, aiding, abetting and harboring ARE Federal Offences and ILLEGAL under Federal Law.

Any State that allows this should lose all Federal funding.

Let the Feds keep their money with ALL the strings and we could Save far more than it costs to "jump their hoops". Also the jobs will be done by the masses of AMERICANS THAT CAN'T FIND WORK.

We need to all take a strong stance against Illegal Immigration. I can't imagine the cost our state goes through.

Your just afraid that if they leave, you will lose your welfare ride and have to go to work (since so many jobs will be open then)?????

Although I agree with some of the sentiments behind Campfield's bill, I have to point out a basic logical flaw in his thinking: we don't kick kids out of school for their parent's behavior. By that twisted logic, the children of criminals in general could be sentenced alongside their parents. Campfield seems to be among the many from all parts of the political spectrum who allow their emotional ideology to overrule their rationality--an ideologue. The margin by which ideologues outnumber skeptics and rationalists in our society always surprises me.

That is incorrect. Illegals will only work for low wages for a limited amount of time until they demand higher wages. The employment of illegals does not help the economy in the long run. Instead, it creates a population explosion that strains limited natural resources.

We can reverse what has taken place but no politician has the guts to do it. The Catholic church and industry lobbyists are paying off our politicians to NOT do anything. The Catholic church wants more donations from a larger congregation and industries want dirt cheap labor.

It's all greed.
