Your post just about sums up the truth about life in the USA for most of the working class and working poor in this country.
With that said, the truth is that many very rich people of all races have a tendency to be racist and/or sexist. The only difference between them and the poor racist/sexist is that the poor are more vocal publically about their beleifs and the rich tend to keep quite publically to prevent being sued. The rich resort to institutionalized racism/sexism and only hire minorities, including white females, to meet the established quotas set forth by affirmative action.

Without affirmative action to entice the country into a sense of inclusion, women and people of all races would not have a fair shot at "The American Dream".

I was so very proud for the country to see the application of affirmative action at Morehouse College in Atlanta. They recently had their first white valedictorian, Josh Packwood. A Rhodes Scholar finalist who turned down a full scholarship at Oxford University in the UK to attend Morehouse. It's just too bad more white students don't take advantage of the splendid educational opportunities at HBCU's.

Affirmative Action was an obvious and necessary remedy to discrimination in favor of mainstream white males which had gone on for some time.

When successfully implemented, AA programs had a positive effect on society, notably in education where many "minorities" and women were allowed to acquire higher education, which in turn has had a ripple effect beneficial to all "minorities" and women.

In 2008, Affirmative Action has been the subject of so much argument that it would be impossible to simply re-implement it. Politically that can not occur. However, there are other means to accomplish the same end, and those must be explored and utilized.

This is another reason why it is important to elect Obama as President. He is likely NOT to ignore the priority to work toward full inclusion in this society, whereas any Republican I can think of pretends the problem is nonexistent.
