well, it is the gypsies that ARE the problem! We are not pointing fingers at the Romanians......we are tired of the illegal trickery and violence of the zingere!!!!! I have been personally effected by some of their trickery and harassment. I support the government in deporting ALL gypsies that are a threat to a peaceful society!!!!

I m not agree at the violent answer for a social problem!!! this action show how mach is weak the italian socety and how many problem got in the last years, specialy now with this govern!! It's shame how the italian culture(the was very intresssing for all the world) is falt soo low!!! I m italian and I m depressed for all upen in my country,to my country.... Great,street vermin they are.. Countries dump these thieves into other countries.Nothing romantic about Gypsy thieves.They are organized family crime units..In most places were they are,they hawk anything on the streets.Aggressive,with not taking no thank you for an answer,they harass all.

These people do not contribute anything to that society.Walking in Rome,they knew I was not a native,and they were all over me and who I was with.A cop chased them away.

They are violent,the knife,is their weapon. They team up on you. kids,old beyond their years,trying to hawk things they stole .The older tourists have a hard time with them.

Years ago ,a similar problem,street rats,would while you were waiting for the light,would come and throw water on your windshield,rub it off with a greasy rag,and expect to get a hand out.

The mayor then,Giuliano,threw those low lifs out of town.NYC got better then.

I understand,Massimo how you feel and you have more of a right to, Italy is your home country. I understand your frustration about how the government has failed you,and had they taked more precaution measures to enforce laws to stop gypsy violence , maybe the shanty burning wouldn't have happened. But, I still feel like the question is this: what choice does the Italian gov. have? What about all the crimes comitted by this culture of people?If the Italians stay tolorant as does the government,the gypsies will use this to their advantage. Remember, the values and conformity of normal society DOES NOT apply to them. They did not learn principles as we did, they learned survival by their mothers,fathers,grandparents as did generations before them....they get a break from the Italian gov. and they will abuse it and the gypsy violence will get worse. In my opinion.

I agree, the Gypsies have been a problem for years. I lived in Italy and as a child I was told not to go near their caravan, which was parked just out of our town. They were known then for stealing children. They are nomads who don't contribute a thing to society. Berlusconi is doing what he can to clean up Italy. I think he's got the right idea. Even though many Italians may not like him he's at least trying to turn things around. Politically IT has always been a controvercial country which makes it difficult to do anything positive. Their new government is doing more than ours here in the US to try and get rid of the problems. I certainly wish that President Bush would be more pro-active regarding immigration. It's now beyond repair. Hopefully his successor will be more assertive.

my teachers husband used to work with them and they told me most of them pretend to be Albanian....which is sad and unfair on us.....

i know albanians commit crime in italy, but most romanians that commit crime and beg in the street ESPECIALLY in England pretend to be Albanian... lol if you came to England you will see what i am talking about....

actually I can explain why. In italy sun tan is considered a beautiful feature, which makes a person more attractive. people goes crazy to get sun baths in summer here lol. about the phone call, he was being called by turkish premier erdogan about an important issue they had to discuss about in that meeting. sure berlusconi is a man of its own but you really need to inform before offending an entire nation, moreover your post is not related to gypsies.

I am romanian and I have never heard of anybody even thinking about wanting to pretend to be albanian! Maybe the gypsies from Romania do, I am not saying they are not, after all they are known to have done crazier things than that. No offence, but if you want to pretend to be something else you may as well pretend to be a nationality that actually has a good reputation...
