They are a cult. My sister and mother became Mormons. They are required to give 10% of their paychecks...if they don't, they CAN'T go into these temples they build. They are required to have food storage for up to a year, which oddly enough the "church" manufactures and distributes. They have their own book production, which of course all of the members purchase from. They are a hoax! They baptize the names of dead people, regardless of what religion they were when they were alive. This inflates the number of "members." They also prey on the poor and needy to convert them into this bogus religion. They also strongly urge members to have as many children as possible...as if the world isn't populated enough. HOAX.HOAX.HOAX. They have brainwashed my family members, and made them poor in the process.

Wow...you are so wrong on most of your points, where did you come up with such an erroneous impression of what the LDS Church is about? We are not a cult...no more than the Ancient Christians at Christs time who were also called a cult. That derogatory term is used today as a shock and awe way to keep others from investigating the Restored Gospel. We don't have a paid ministry and the other religions who call us a cult have paid ministries and as they lose members they lose money so this is their way to answer this problem to try and stop the "Sheep Stealing" and their way of boundary maintenance so they can keep their livelihoods. The Ancient Christians also paid 10% tithing as do other Christian Churches it is a principle taught in the Bible yet our tithing does not go to an individual (preacher) but to building Temples and meeting houses and other needs in this way to build up the Kingdom. God gives us all and in return asks of us to return a tenth of it back to him to build up his Kingdom on Earth. Each member is taught principles of the Gospel and they have their free agency to decide how faithful they will be in living up to those principles and growing in obedience. No one is forced to live the gospel or it principles and the Saints live in varying degrees of righteousness and many grow through the years. Some are better at living some parts of the Gospel and others or better at living others and together we are are strong as we grow more faithful. Not all members pay tithing, it takes a lot of faith to do and so especially in this day and age of greed. The blessings of the Temple is reserved for those Saints who have learned to overcome the world to be more faithful to the Lord and to overcome selfishness and greed. Tithing is not the only principle used to determine Temple worthiness. No one is asked what they make the only question they are asked about tithing is do you pay a faithful tithe? Each person is free to answer for their own worthiness. We are not *required* to have food storage but are taught this principle and we are free to choose and many can see the wisdom in doing so in our day and age and listening to the council of a Prophet who councils us to do so especially as we are now living in the Last days or End Times when there will be much tribulation. It's just good common sense. The "church" does manufacture and distribute food and it is used in their welfare program and disaster relief program to help the poor and the needy in the world. Members also can use some of these resources to get better prices for their food storage if they so choose to do so through the canneries as the Church buys in bulk. Again all members are free to buy their food storage where ever they prefer if they do decide to get their food storage. The Church makes no profit on food storage and there are many individual businesses who provide food storage. I hear they are very business now as many across the nation are seeing wisdom in this type of principle. I bought a bunch of food storage through Perma Pac...a good company and I've bought in bulk at Lehi roller mill in Lehi, Utah (was used in the movie, Footloose) and I sealed it in large white buckets I bought for that purpose. I have also gone to the Church's cannery and bought rice, oatmeal and some other things and bought the cans and had my choices sealed in the size of tin cans I choose. I also helped out at the cannery to can many other products that were to be used by the Church for the welfare and disaster relief program which is active and does much good all around the world. I know I need to be more diligent about getting my food storage up to where it needs to be. Food Storage: http://lds.about.com/od/preparednessfoodstora... continued: We do have Baptism for the Dead just like the Bible talks about and many ancient texts that are coming to light say the Ancient Christians did as well. And these Baptisms have nothing, nada to do with the number of "members" the Church has. So this does not inflate our number of members...and we do not prey on the poor and the needy to convert them. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has members who come from all walks of life and all are invited to a part of the Lord's Gospel. Children are a heritage to the Lord and a prized gift from God and members are free to decide the size of their families and is a private matter for all couples...and this world is capable of sustaining so many more so I wouldn't worry about it being over populated. It is no more a HOAX than Celsus, the ancient Anti-Christian, who claimed and accused the Ancient Christians of many of the same things as you do today about the LDS Church. You sound so much like Celsus so I hope you will get over it and come to learn the truth about the goodness about LDS Church. http://www.fairlds.org/pubs/Celsus.pdf http://store.fairlds.org/prod/p0195041518.htm... http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/latter-da...

Huh, I wonder how many times Steve Young failed to attend Sacrament due to his career choice? Do you think he was moved by the "spirit" to play football on Sunday?

Joseph Smith most likely was a religious con-man and most definitely was using the church as a stepping stone to bigger and better things in life, like running for US President when the majority of Mormons were residing in Nauvoo, IL - at the time larger then the city of Chicago. He was also involved in modern cult behavior of sleeping with female converts and tried to institute polygamy as a standard of the Mormon church. Brigham Young ordered most likely a large massacre in the Utah Territory in response to the Mormon religion's fight with the US government during the Utah War.

Joseph Smith was not a con-man but a Prophet of God and it is staggering the accomplishments he had in light of his young years and schooling. His name has been had for good and evil and it is amazing how many desire to malign his name when they don't know what they are talking about. http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp... Brigham Young did not order the MMM but sent word, a two day horse ride going to SLC and a two day ride back, when he got the message that there was trouble with a wagon train going through the southern end of the state at the time. By the time the rider got back with Brigham's reply to let them pass and not engage with them....it was too late as individuals had taken actions into their own hands. Brigham Young cried when he heard what had transpired. He did at the time try to cover it up out of fear of those growing forces coming against the Mormons and especially after the State of Missouri had issued an Extermination Order that made it legal to kill a Mormon. The man who order the massacre was tried and put to death for the it.
