I was stationed at Camp Corregidor from Jun 05-Jun 06. Yea, it sucks there, but the troops are awesome. They have to be.

My son Dan is also serving there. This is his second tour. He doesn't tell us much. Compared to the last time Corregidor seems like a country club. When he is there he shares a room with 4 other soldiers and he says the food is pretty good. You don't hear the information about Ramadi like we did the first time he went over.

My Son Chip is stationed at Camp Corregidor. He was just home for Christmas. He reported that the camp took incoming rounds "once in a while" and sniper fire "fairly often". He just went back and he e-mailed me that the "all protective gear all the time" restriction had been lifted.

Not sure but I think my son is at this camp. He has to keep everything pretty confidential. Does anyone know if there is a way I can check?

Carla, his unit will have that info. Usually it's only confidential until they arrive on station so the enemy can't plan attacks on the convoys going to the base. The insurgents are sometimes capable of monitoring satellite phone and e-mail so operational security is always a concern.

That's normal for Corregidor, they only have a handful of computers and they go down often for various reasons. There's usually a long line waiting to use them and we only got 30 minutes each with most of the time used up just waiting for sites to come up, limited bandwidth with all the computers sharing it. With the work schedule we often didn't have time to wait so we just didn't go. My platoon got together and bought a satellite dish and router which took a long time to arrive, after that we had internet in our rooms on our personal laptops. That made it much easier to stay in touch with home but sometimes we would have blackouts where we weren't allowed to use them.

I was with Animal Company, 3/103rd Armor. We were mech. infantry the first 6 months and in our tanks for the 2nd 6 months. Camp Corregidor is on the east side of Ramadi and the city surrounds the camp on 3 sides. To the east, about 10 miles, is Al Taqqadum air base..about 20 miles east is Fallujah. We were there from jul 05 to jul 06

My Wife's cousin Matt is serving at Corregidor. He's with the C Company 1-9 IN 2BCT, 2ID. He doesn't write his parents much, He calls from time to time, but the phone connection is pretty bad from time to time from what they've told me. He's not much for keeping anyone up to date with details, but says he is doing fine.

It's no picnic there, that's for sure. Never a dull moment. The locals know not to approach the perimeter, with the exception of a few shepards with their flocks (for grazing) and they're known to us but still observed closely for any suspicious activity. It's the most hostile area in Iraq so we didn't take any chances. In a way that's a good thing because you never get complacent.

It is no picnic here, and far from being a country club. We don't have any luxuries, no PX,(a small Haji shop with bootleg DVD's is about it) we have our TOC, chow hall and living quarters. We're not allowed SAT internet in our rooms due to all the Commo Blackouts, there are 5 working phones with bad signal, 5 working computers with less than dial-up speed. We're always busy so not much time to chat with home and our minds are elsewhere. On a positive side, if you know someone that is stationed here, they are in the best of hands.

I hear you Bro, the only "good" thing about Camp Corregidor was that it's so busy there the time goes by quickly. My year flew past, one long minute at a time. Are the port-a-sh*tters still working? We had to burn waste for 10 months after the local workers were beheaded. Stay safe and remember, ROE#1 is the key in Ramadi.

One other thing, totally agree about the "best of hands". Never, in my 14 years of military service, have I seen teamwork and professionalism and absolute courage like I did at Camp Corregidor. I guess the worst conditions bring out the best in all of us.

ya we're up to 8 porta crappers by the TOC side, the living quarters pissers finally flooded beyond repair and are shut down for good. Water truck breaks down alot, so never any water to shower or shave. Your right about time, I don't know if the time goes by fast or it just all blends together it seems fast. No such thing as weekends so I can't tell Mondays from Fridays. As bad as it is, when people back home ask me what I want, I never have an answer. I guess I'm so used to not having I've gotten used to not wanting . We know we don't have it as good as others but we take a comfort in that. I guess it's being able to say you haven't been to Iraq until you've been to Corregidor lol.
