I never gave Bottoms as much credit as he deserves for rational thought. Times change though....and giving the sorority a semester notice that they're out is the proper thing to do. Depauw was always somewhat unique in that the fraternities weren't so much an elite group, as a social network to give people something to do in such a small town. It also helped to have a smaller subset of your small school there for you all the time. It's too bad the DZ national nobs failed to see the Depauw situation for what it was.

Excellent reaction by the school to a ridiculous situation. I am extremely pleased to see the school put their students first.

Good for them; maybe this won't happen to other girls and cause them such anguish.

As a middle school principal, I continually deal with student perception of themselves and their perceieved perception of what others think. Thank you DePauw for taking a stand against this type of bullying and alienation.

Good call, President Bottoms. Hopefully young women who are considering sorority life at any school will now cast a critical eye on Delta Zeta. Ditto for their parents.

Who cares, the majority of sorority girls have nothing to do with the organization once they graduate. I still can not understand why anybody would pay money to join a social organization with little future benefits. I'll never forget econ 214 where a girl said "I already have 3 sisters, why would I pay for 10 more"!!

President Bottoms is an excellent President. Balancing the best interests of the students with the school's strong ties to the Greek chapters isn't easy.

Anyway, this whole thing is too bad. Best of luck to the young women, who never asked to be celebrities, and certainly not under these circumstances.

According to the Delta Zeta web site, the sorority's mission is "Providing an enduring sisterhood based on a heritage of core values, academic excellence, leadership development, and service to others." Their core values are apparently thin figures and pretty faces. How shallow.

Good bye and good riddance. Nice job DePauw.

You know what they call girls from Delta Zeta? Easy DZ's. And there is a reason for that.
Aren't you stereotyping just like they do at DePauw. Before you get on and type your pigish comments, I am a DePauw DZ alumna. I would like to say that my class the ones before and after me were upright, moral and intelligent women. We went on to become lawyers, doctors, professors, and newswomen. So before all of you get on and type your higher-than-thou comments don't bash something because of the decisions of a few people. We were great women. So if you didn't attend the DePauw "bubble" you just don't know.

The fact that we know we are hot and better than ugly people is, like, all we need to know.

Something will surface that either allows you to go forward or blocks your progress. Whichever way things go, take action to bring about change. If there's a blockage, then investigate the true cause as to why things are stuck. If things are unfolding well then make sure you act with clarity and determination. You can build something for the future now if you make a decisive move.
