Longtime Fort Wayne radio personality dies

I grew up listening to WOWO and Sievers every morning as I grew up in that area. All good things do come to an end but he is a legacy.

On a little red barn on a farm
up in heaven,
Let us lay our backs against stacks of new mown hay-ay-ay.
The view from here is as good as the one we had from the world-famous fire escape.
Now you feed the chickens while I do the price report.

What a wonderful voice he had! He was a great man also. He and my grandfather were good friends and now they are in Heaven together having a great time! Best wishes to his family....

The Little Red Barn was always playing on the radio when I'd wake up on my grandparent's dairy farm. What great childhood memories I have from that time. My condolences to the Sievers family -- he will be remembered by many of us.

What sad news this is. I grew up listening to Bob Sievers. He was a wonderful person. He certainly has many stars in his crown. God bless you.

The morning milkings always went quickly when listening to Bob Sievers and Jay Gould. What a pair. Bob had a radio voice and a radio personality enequalled and Jay had maturity and insight. No talk radio today could come close to them in entertaining and informing.
Bob gave of his time for many local events. He gave so much. Thank our creator for allowing us to have him for 90 years.

Bob Sievers, what a great man. I met him several times and he was always nice and gracious. Ah for the days when AM radio was king and FM was just a novelty act....

How ironic that Bob passed away just one week before the Mizpah Shrine fly-in breakfast at Fort Wayne International Airport.He was there every year on the microphone announcing different things. He was a big booster of the Shrine and Shriner's Hospitals. He will be sadly missed Sunday, Sept. 9th.

Like many of the other posts, I too have nothing but fond memories of Bob Seivers (and Jay Gould) on the Little Red Barn Show. They were a great pair and Bob in particular made me smile more times than I can count. For many, many years WOWO was one of the best, if not the best, radio stations in the Eastern U.S., and Bob Seivers was certainly one of the cornerstones that made it so.

We'll all miss you Bob.

That is so sad, I woke up to him for nearly 30 years before moving to Fishers.

Maybe some of the readers can help me. I lived for a short time in Philadelphia. This was in the early 60's. Early enough in fact that I spoke with Dick Clark in a Wilmington, DE Sear's store before he moved to Los Angeles. Anyway, can anyone tell me who some of the nighttime DJ's were on WOWO back then. Once in awhile, I could pick up the station in Philly, and it was great to have that hoosier connection even out there. WOWO was always a good station, and I know Mr. Sievers Loss will be felt by many.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Bob Sievers. He was a wonderful radio personality and a very nice man. I grew up listening to him in the mornings while getting ready for school. He will be missed.

Another member of "the greatest generation" is gone. Let's hope the new generation will achieve such greatness.

I too grew up in Ft Wayne, my family were loyal WOWO listeners. I have strong memories of listening to the WOWO Penny Pitch each Christmas. Everyone felt they were doing something really wonderful in contributing to that drive. My condolences to his family.

I grew up in Indiana and northwest Ohio listening to Bob Sievers...W-O-W-O, Fort Wayne! was *the* radio station. Great announcer who has been missed for years since retiring.

As a Fort Wayne native, his calm voice will be missed. As a kid, I huddled around the radio waiting for his precious words to tell me school was cancelled because of snow. He is the gold standard among radio personalities. God Bless and good bye.

Yep. Bob Chase, the voice of the Komets. After the K's I'd run on over to the Group W sister station WBZ to hear Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito and the rest of Bruins rule.

Back in the 1960's my father a humble poet from here in Kendallville sent to
Bob Sievers a copy of a poem he wrote titled "Indiana" Bob read Dad's poem on the air, request for copies of this poem came pouring in, it was tremendous.In 1963 my father was asked to appear in front of the Indiana General Assembly,at that time his poem "Indiana" was adopted as the Official Indiana state poem, In 1973 my father "Arthur Franklin Mapes" was asked to read this poem before the Indiana General Assembly, he was then declared to be Indiana's Poet Laureate. My Dad always claimed that none of this would not have happened if not for Bob Sievers, we his children agree, He was a great man, we were sorry to here of his passing. For Dad

WOWO came in strong to the Worthington Indiana area - south west of Indy about 70 mile of so. Listen to WOWO, WLS and WLW at night down on the farm. Too back we do not have such quality in radio in todays market.
