Ever notice that while an open forum allows everyone to post, it gives those who lack the basics of humanity and intelligence to frequently express just how pathetic they are. And that's a good thing, because it reminds us that there are always evils waiting close at hand.

Face it, the "gay-bashers" can't hold a candle to the intolerance demonstrated on these boards daily by the gays, socialists and other "TOLERANT" groups. You are downright hateful, but that's OK if you're gay, or a socialist, I guess

This is a story of two people who have lived as a loving couple for 25 years and, now that one of them has become incapcitated and unable to fight for his relationship, are being deprived of each other's company and support. Imagine how you would feel if it were you and your spouse.

To me, the most telling sentence in this article is the following:
"The same circumstance could have befallen an unmarried straight couple, and there are a number of protections available to unwed couples that Conrad and Atkins didn't use,[Curt Smith] said."
An unmarried straight couple has the option of signing one document: a marriage license. They are then completely covered.
The same-sex couple has no such option.
"A number of protections" is vague, far too vague to be acceptable, considering the importance of a lifelong, committed relationship.
My partner and I have been together in a lifelong, committed, monogamous relationship for many years.
We share a mortgage, a house, a life, and have filled out "a number of" documents to try to protect our relationship.
We were told just a few months ago that we neglected to write out one document that would protect us from having the house taken from the surviving partner should one of us perish. It was on our second mortgage. We just didn't think of it. Neither did our experienced lawyer.
There is no justification beyond animus for making it impossible for us to sign a document --either a marriage certificate or the equivalen-- that recognizes the reality of our intertwined lives.
The unmarried heterosexual couple has that option.
We should as well.

Geeze, this is one sick world. You need some serious help.

I'm glad the Star finally got around to this story! It was pretty sad the week this case came out, which was significant news in light of the gay marriage debate not so long ago in our legislature, the Star had nothing whatsoever about the case, but instead ran a puff piece in the Faith section about how the cruel Mrs. Atkins has daily prayer sessions at Atkins cheesecake-- which was, I'm just guessing, not the result of journalism, but the result of a press release the company put out trying to get ahead of the bad press this case is going to bring.
I seriously hope everyone in the local hospitality, catering, restaurant business, gay or straight, is aware of this and chooses to stop serving Atkins products. In fact, it would be nice if they could spread the word to their peers outside the Indianapolis area too.

No Duh wrote: I also will never purchase anymore Atkins products, Jay, and I will write a letter to the company telling them why. It's too bad that these parents care more about being right than they do about their son's happiness. He must be miserable, deprived of the partner with whom he chose to spend his life. I wonder how Mrs. Atkins would feel if she were in a similar situation and she was forbidden to see her husband. The Atkins parents show themselves to be un-loving, un-Christian, and cold-hearted. I agree with you 100%, I neither will ever buy anything from Atkins. Theses are not loving parents, they are selfish parents. I would think that they would want their son to be happy afterall these two have been together for over 20 years. The parents need to wake up and become the christians they claim to be. What would God do??

It sounds like homosexuals are not smart enough to use the laws in existence. They don't "trust" the laws to protect them, but they haven't even tried to see if they will.
Homosexuality is not a "gay" lifestyle. What a corruption of a perfectly good word.
And what a corruption of God's word. If you believe God supports homosexuality, you are profaning God's word.
Our country's general amorality is going to be its demise. No civilization has ever stood against God and survived.

Wow glad to see the true meaning of "unconditional parental/christian love" as demonstrated by these "parents".(and some "christian" posers. <sarcasm>
I wonder what strings God is going to place on His love for you??? He warns sternly, strongly and harshly.. "As much as you do unto them - you do also to me."
