Dear Vaniyambadian,
Vaniyambadi is a major hub of trade and commerce, business and philanthropy, education, and above all, the people of the town are freedom-loving and independent-thinking. The town dates back to the Roman times. Beryl (also known as aquamarine),a semi-precious stone was exported to the Roman empire. The mines were in operation till the late nineteenth century. I am proud to be an inhabitant of such a praiseworthy town. |

The Vaniyambadi Railway Users Association (VRUA)was formed to put forward the demands of the railway users of Vaniyambadi. As everyone is aware, a very few trains stop in the town compared to Ambur and Jolarpet. The majority of passengers boarding trains there are from Vaniyambadi. To represent to the railways the need of the town and to request them to stop more trains, including Super Fast and Long Distance ones, the VRUA along with the Vaniyambadi Muslim Educational Society and the Vaniyambadi Tanners Association held a grand gala function in the Islamiah College Auditorium when the Minister of State for Railways, Thiru R. Velu, I.A.S. (Retd.) announced the stoppage of Thiruvandapuram Express. The dates are yet to be announced. The writer is the Joint Secretary of the VRUA

Damming Palar is Damning Palar
The hasty action initiated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to construct a dam on River Palar in Kuppam has caused agony and infuriated the people of the five northern districts of Tamil Nadu, namely, Vellore, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Thiruvallur and Chennai. The construction of a dam on River Palar will cause undue damage and destruction to crops, extreme water scarcity and closing down of industries in the northern districts of Tamil Nadu. River Palar is the only major river of the area. Palar’s short run in Karnataka (93 km) and Andhra Pradesh (42) resulted in excessive and unwarranted advantage taken by both the states. Already three reservoirs in Karnataka impound large amount of Palar water. Andhra Pradesh has built 22 dykes and check-dams in the last five years resulting in locking away of the remaining water. Thousands of lakes entirely depend on River Palar. In Vellore District alone there are 502 lakes that depend on Palar. Agricultural, industrial and drinking water needs of the five districts have to be met only by River Palar. Whether it is flood or drought, the people of Tamil Nadu are going to be at a loss. Too few rains and both Karnataka and Andhra impound water in their lakes and dykes and check-dams. Good monsoons and our neighbours treat Tamil Nadu as a drainage outlet. Either water becomes too precious or it causes inundations and floods. In case of excess discharge or any damage to the proposed dam, there is a possibility of many villages and towns on the banks of River Palar being washed away. The riparian rights of Tamil Nadu are at stake. Karnataka has always treated Tamil Nadu as a drainage outlet. Now it seems to be the turn of Andhra Pradesh. The Union Ministry of Water Resources has included Palar in the peninsular component of interlinking of rivers. The proposed dam goes against the spirit of interlinking of rivers. Palar, an inter-State river, is mentioned in Schedule ‘A’ appended to the 1892 agreement. As per Clause II of the agreement, the neighbouring state or states should not construct any dam to obstruct, divert and store water of River Palar, without the consent of the Government of Tamil Nadu. Two days back the Collector of Chittoor District called a meeting for reviewing the project of construction of a dam in Ganeshpuram, near Kuppam, Chittoor District. Without Palar Vaniyambadi and the down stream towns and thousands of villages are destined to become ghost towns and deserts. May the Almighty give some sense to the 'impounders' of water over there in Andhra. The writer is interested to pursue the matter further. Comments and support are solicited |

The Indian Footwear Market Is Set To Experience Phenomenal Growth In Coming Years,The KH shoes,Farida Shoes,NMZ,should also concentrate on local market along with export earnings.
I saw a lot of foreign companies entering in to life style products, and penetrating their brand into the emerging market. But Indian companies, with export track record are just content in supplying to the big brands of italian....It is the time they should know the potentiality of the local market in india. At least the dollar fall, should let them think of local market too..They should creat an alternate market if they have to survive and make big money in Future. Standing on the threshold of a retail revolution and witnessing a fast changing retail landscape, the Indian footwear market is set to experience the phenomenal growth in coming years. In past few years too, the market has seen robust growth |
