Cleaning of the Branches of River Palar in Vaniyambadi

River Palar is the only source of water for Vaniyambadi. The river flows on the periphery of the town, but branches out into two, which crisscross the entire town. Encroachments, dumping of waste and letting of untreated sewage straight into the river have caused severe damage to the aquifers. Regular flow of clean water in the branches is essential which will strengthen the water table in the town. Work was begun some time back to deepen the branches and to remove the rubbish and garbage deposited in River Palar, but was left halfway. We hope that the Mr. V. Sivaji Ganesan, Chairman, Vaniyambadi Municipality with the active support of his government at the State and Central level will surely take up the work at a war footing and make the environment clean and clear.

Mr. V. Sivaji Ganesan while accepting the felicitation at the function organized by the Lions Club of Vaniyambadi on 12 February 2007 at Concordia Higher Secondary School promised to black top the roads adjoining the branches and to construct drainage lines along the branches. But it seems funds are a basic problem. I hope he accomplishes this task very quickly and efficiently.

The provision of underground Drainage and Sewage System and a Sewage Treatment Plant for Vaniyambadi will enable the town to meet the World Health Organization norms for providing safe drinking water and a healthy environment to the town’s folks.

What has caused this?
The construction of dams at the origin. Depriving water to the people who live down steam
When sand mining is opposed, why not people oppose pumping of water from river bed
Pumping of water from the river bed..Palar…which lowers water table. And results in drying of wells, creating positive market environment for corporate people who are in the business of selling water.
These results in poor agricultural out put,a rise in food prices..…again effecting common man
