FOR A CAUSE: Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi leading a rally urging Sri Lankan Government to stop the war against Tamils, at Anna Salai in Chennai on Thursday.

CHENNAI: Making a fervent appeal to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to intervene in the Sri Lankan situation “to stop the genocide of Tamils,” Chief Minister and DMK president M.Karunanidhi said on Thursday that Ms.Gandhi’s voice was the voice of all Indians.

In an appeal to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he said that in the event of the war ending, LTTE chief Prabakaran should be treated “in the manner in which Emperor Alexander treated Porus after he defeated Porus in battle.”

“I am not asking this for an individual Prabakaran,” Mr.Karunanidhi said, adding that he was asking this was for all Tamils in the island nation. If President Rajapaksa was thinking of killing all Tamils in Sri Lanka, then he should be aware that history would not forgive him, he said. All such people who presided over ethnic cleansing had been consigned to the dustbin of history.

Mr.Karunanidhi reminded the Sri Lankan government that the concept of equal rights for Tamils and participation in government had been stressed by many leaders, including Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee, President Pratibha Patil, Ms.Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Recalling a meeting with Sri Lankan Tamil leader Selva in 1974, Mr.Karunanidhi said that both Selva and Amrithalingam had also met Dravidian ideologue Periyar and solicited his support for the struggle in Sri Lanka. Periyar merely asked them,“How can one slave help another.”

Mr.Karunanidhi said that a host of situations had to be taken into consideration while talking about Sri Lanka. One had to remember that most nations had condemned the action against civilians and wanted the war to be stopped. But that country had not heeded any of these voices and was pressing ahead with the war.

Mr.Karunanidhi was speaking at a function near Chepauk Guest House, after leading a massive rally from the Munroe statue to the Guest House. Representatives and cadre from various political parties, including the Congress, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Indian Union Muslim League, were among those who participated in the rally, raising slogans against the Sri Lankan government and the country’s President. They demanded an immediate stop to the killing of Tamils in the country and warned that Tamils elsewhere would not remain silent spectators while Sri Lankan Tamils were being killed.

DMK general secretary and Finance Minister K.Anbazhagan said the rally was to make the Centre aware of the strong feelings of Tamils here so that the Centre took appropriate action to halt the war. War was not a solution to the problems facing the island nation, he added.

Dravidar Kazhagam president K.Veeramani warned politicians against indulging in double speak on the Sri Lankan issue. He said people were well aware of what the leaders had spoken over the years and the attempt to appear concerned over the Sri Lankan issue was to merely garner votes.

VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan said the meeting and the rally were for Sri Lankan Tamils. There was no politics in this. In fact, Mr.Karunanidhi, who should be campaigning elsewhere for the party, had taken the view that this was more serious; winning an election was secondary, he added.

Dear shoba,
how are you ? we are talking after a long gap. hope everything is fine. By the way , what made you conclude that some tamils are slaves of Indian union? Is it because you had expected that India would just act as a slave of LTTE during the war? I think you are just making statements in an irresponsible way . you may have some grievances against any particular individual but just donot enlarge it and blame India or try to hammer on Indian unity and integrity.

Hi DB,
I hope same. You don't break our talks suddently.I reveal always right. The IPC article 366 is enough to prove that. Why Indian Union oppose human right commissioner of commanwealth with only Sri Lanka & South Africa?

dear shoba,
thanks for your reply and sorry for my late reply. You have mentioned about one "IPC article 366" which i could not understand ., Are you talking of Indian constitution? Now you have asked a question on what you call a particular stand of Indian Union. honestly speaking I donot have any information on that stand as i donot scan much on article on srilankan issues . So please give me the particular link and please justify your stand that Tamils are slaves of Indian union with it. I promise you that I would not break the talk suddenly though I may not respond you quickly. Arm chair pundit is little bit busy. ha...ha..ha....

India to oppose a human rights monitor at CHOGM
Indrani BagchiIndrani Bagchi,
India will oppose a Commonwealth report that seeks to establish a monitoring group for member countries on human rights, democracy and rule of law. At the Commonwealth summit in Perth this week, India is working the diplomatic levers to make the case that such groups are beyond the mandate of the 54-nation grouping. This might put India in the direct path of advocacy by western Commonwealth nations UK, Canada and Australia.

The 11-member eminent persons group drawn from civil society in various countries has put out 106 recommendations in its report, most of which India would be happy to accept. The group was set up after the last summit in Port of Spain in 2009 and the report may be accepted at this week's CHOGM.

India, sources said, opposes the appointment of another human rights commissioner, given that the UN's Human Rights Council is a functioning body with a more far-reaching mandate. India comes up for its periodic review next year at the Council, where, among other things, India will be fighting attempts to put caste under racism.

India is likely to get support from almost all South Asian states, as well as some African nations. This appointment may be used by the west to beat Sri Lanka with, fear Indians. Sri Lanka is the host for the 2013 CHOGM and a human rights campaign against it is the last thing it wants. India too doesn't want Sri Lanka to have to go down that path.

On democracy promotion and rule of law advocacy, India believes that though it is a staunch practitioner of these values, it is equally opposed to outside imposition of these values on countries. The battle is fairly joined with the western countries pushing that there should be a fight against ills like forced and early marriage.

The one issue which has flummoxed Indian diplomats is a recommendation that countries should be penalized or criticized for discriminating against gays and lesbians. While India has moved out of that group with the decriminalization of homosexuality, almost 40 countries in the Commonwealth declare homosexuality to be a crime. This issue, many feel, is likely to cloud the larger issues at the summit.

dear Shoba,
i have read the article and i think you have not gone through it properly. it has not proved that Tamils are slaves of India. I have not seen any thing or could find any thing that says that Tamils are slaves of India. I just do not want to pressurize you to give a credible proof to your claim. however you are free to give more things in support of your claim. Dear from the first reply , i have indicated that you are just wrong when you have tried to project Tamils as slave of India or Indian Union. India is a multi religious , multi ethnic , multi ethnic country and indian constitution gives enough space for every groups. Yes there have been challenges in the form of conflicts but they have been addressed with all possible means. I should also mention here that the same India has also been involved in the reconstruction work in the Tamil majority areas in the post war period. Even India as a state do not consider tamils of srilanka as enemy. How is it possible that we would consider our own tamils as enemy and slaves.

Shoba is correct your state is anti Tamil to the core run be North Indians and Kerala snakes and the Indian Tamils are largely selfish stupid and moronic.
Their politicians are largely opportunistic arse holes who are only interested in lining their pockets with money. All of them. They only use outdated and disproved race and caste factors to divide and rule the Tamil population.
This is the reason Indian government treats them like fools and never respects them. See how Indian respected the Bengalis during the Bangladesh crises. Shows how much India respects them. Even recently that Malayalee Snake called Matthias went to Bangladesh and stated , we will not do anything against Bangladesh as we respect and will not go against the wishes of the people of West Bengal. So does India respect the Indian Tamils or their wishes? The answer is NO. The treatment of the Eelam Tamils and aiding and abetting their genocide to the hilt shows how much it cares for or respects its Tamil population who have contributed so much to India Hinduism and Indian culture. Even the treatment and ignoring what is happening to the fishermen of Tamil Nadu by the Sinhalese shows how much it cars or respects Tamils in India.
As for not against the Eelam Tamils do not make me laugh. Form the time of the IPKF we have seen who much you Indians hate us and do nto care for us. You are the biggest aiders and abettors and are still the biggest supporters of our genocide. Stopping anyone form helping us. You Indians are our number one enemy not China not Pakistan or any other. You give money for our rehabilitation. Do not make me laugh. Every idiot knows that money is really not given to rehabilitate any single Tamil. It is just a farce. That money has been only used to settle Sinhalese on a large scale in ethnically cleansed ad stolen Tamil homes ,lands and farms. It has been used to build more than 2500 Buddhist Viharas and stupas on the sites of destroyed Hindu temples. More than 2500 Hindu temples and 40 Tamil Christian churches were destroyed by the Sinahlese army. The Tamils are not allowed to near any of them or even repair them but on these sites huge Buddhist viharas are being built with your government Funds. Your government know this and this is what it wants. This is why you hate you evil Indians as you want the destruction of our ancient land language culture and the Saivite religion.
