Sri Lankan revives Ravana's musical instrument

Full story: Newkerala.com

I have already done 15 TV programmes featuring the instrument. Balachandran, Colombo, Feb 19 : Dinesh Subasinghe, a rising star on the Sri Lankan rock and fusion music horizon, has a new and daring passion - to popularise ravanahatha, a violin-like instrument that ... via Newkerala.com

The Tamils already have their Veena and Carnatic music

Nobel Prize-winning physicist C.V. Raman has described the veena as having a unique construction. The string terminations at both ends are curved and not sharp. Also, the frets have much more curvature than any other instrument. This design produces more harmonics than any other instrument.

The Sinhalese unfortunately despise Tamil culture so happily copy north Indian music styles. Im not surprised, they will certainly take to the ravanahatha if they hear it has connections with Rajasthan.

By the way, Mandodari is supposed to have belonged to my city, Jodhpur. The Nagvamshi kings, whose daughter Mandodari was, used to rule from an old fort, Mandor, a just 3 miles from Jodhpur.

RAVANAN was Tamil SAIVA KING who was demonised by the Hindu racists to destroy SAIVAISM and promote Hinduism.
If RAMAYANA, Written by a THEIF, was a TRUE story, the Hidus and India also Sinhalese unwittingly accept that Srilankan island belong to only TAMILS.

Lanka mentioned in Ramayana is not Srilanka.
Ravanan is not Tamil.

Hinduism means Saivism and Vaishnavism.
Saivaite is also Hindu and Vaishnavaite is also Hindu.

On the Traditional Tamil Homeland
Facts to counter a 'fib'
Writing the history of the Tamil homeland in Sri Lanka as a separate entity has a tradition of at least 500 years, beginning with the historiographical works like Vaiyaapaatal and Kailaayamaalai. Prior to that period, the conventional sources – the Buddhist chronicles on which the authoritative history of the Island is still based - are not much helpful to understand the Tamil history. History is basically the capacity of a society in remembering its past. The mode of exerting this capacity differs from society to society. Hence, one must devise appropriate tools to reconstruct the history of a particular society. Saying that a particular society has no history, without going for an appropriate tool, as in the context of the Tamils, is a crime committed on that society, which is what that is being done by the Sri Lankan historians. Therefore, now we have to mainly turn towards the tools like archaeology, cultural anthropology, folk studies, historical linguistics etc. to understand the history of the Tamil society.

Front Note by Sachi Sri Kantha

Bernard Goonetilleke, the current Sri Lankan ambassador to the USA, in an opinion piece to the Washington Times (Feb. 17) has asserted:

“…The international community must be told that, beneath a plausible veneer, the demand for a separate state for Tamils of Sri Lanka is rooted in fiction. There never was at any time in Sri Lankan history "a traditional Tamil homeland" in the north and east of Sri Lanka, as claimed by the LTTE. If historically, the LTTE demand for a separate state is a downright fabrication, what is the case they can make to justify a separate state?”

Many would have noted that the Washington Times (sponsored by the Korean brand of Christian evangelism, founded by Rev. Sun Myung Moon) has become a vehicle for Colombo’s propagandists of a Goebellsian grade. How the voices of Sinhala-Buddhist belligerence sing in chorus with the so-called "media arm of Reverend Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church" deserves separate scrutiny. For now, I have no complaint as to Ambassador Goonetilleke being a distinguished gentleman, sweating hard to earn his bread. But, resembling the hapless nag Rocinante of Don Quixote immortalized by Cervantes (1547-1616), the Colombo breed of Rocinantes ably led by Gooneteilleke have been fed only with oat bran of one brand indigenous to Sri Lanka – i.e., the bloating Mahavamsa brand.

these sinhalese jokers will suck up to any theories which connects ravan to them.

ravan is a dravidian king belonging to andhra-orissa border.

ravan, with ten heads, could be metaphor for an alliance of 10 dravidian chieftains against aryan agression.

sita could be a metaphor for "land" for which the war is fought.

telugu_dravidian,

Prove me that Ravanan is Dravidian King.
He is just a Myth.
That Myth also says that his father is Brahmin and Mother a Demon.

The only opposing dharma to arya dharma was asura dharma who followed saivism.

I dont believe in ravana being brahmin... that is masala added later to coverup a shudra being a king.

asuras always destroyed fire altars of the vedic sages.

firepractice is not dravidian.
dravidians are primarily shiva followers... whom asuras also prayed.

ravan could be mythical metaphor for dravidian resistance in general.

I did not mean a character called ravan really existed.

ramayana could be an allegorical tale of conflict between gangabasin aryans and dravidians of that area.

for almost all indian historians rama(and so is ravana) is a myth.

The Sinhalese believe they are descended from a union of a Lion and a princess. They also believe the Lord buddha flew on a cloud and declared to them they are the true protectors of buddhism in Sri Lanka.

You can read about it in a fairy tale they believe is true called Mahavamsa. This fairy tale is the pretext for them killing 150,000-200,000 Tamils civilians over the last 20 years.

Is worshipping Sun, Dravidian Practice?
I will say Yes. Sun Worship is common for both Aryans and Dravidians.

I accept that Dravidians were Hindu Saivites but are you 100% Dravidian?

Rama is depicted as Black. Mahabharat might be a Myth but Ram is not a Myth. He was ruling some parts of India before the Aryans entered India.
He was People's King. Same to Krishna as well. He is Harappan God.

Telugu-Dravidian, what you say could be true. It could also be that Rama was Dravida and Ravana was an aboriginal. Both have mingled in myth along with the Aryans.

True Dravidians worship Murugan (northern skanda) and follow siddhar philosophy and lifestyle. vegitarianism and ahimsa originated from them as did the priests called Andanar who's symbol is the hexagon and the only major temple left is in Kataragama in Sri Lanka. The temple at Chidambaram is now a saivite temple.

Saivism is a northern introduction from Kashmir, Lord Shiva is actually the Rudra the god of fire and destruction (he destroys obstacles to enlightenment)
